PokeBeach nomore or a cruel April Fools day joke?

Go ahead and post them please; given the day, people legitimately wonder.

I think people need to think about separating their feelings for Jon posting pre-scans & the phione prank from what has happened to his site. I put myself in his shoes... shudder.

In a larger sense, I'll say this, if you think someone gets what they deserve, do you want to get what YOU deserve? I don't.
 
No matter my feelings on other things that happen on the Beach, it will be sad to see it go. It has been a good source of info for years.

To think of all the work that WPM and others have done there and it may all be gone now - I can see why he is thinking about letting the sites go for a while.

Hopefully this is just a joke, but since it is now 4/2 and the page has not changed, I think it may be real.

Still unchanged as of 3:17am Central.....

Ill be patient and wait another 12-24 hours or so, before I become saddened (but as of right now...Im in surreal shock,,,)
 
i highly dought this being a joke the way he said that the site has been getting in the way of college and grades going down he is definetly going to pick college over a site that will get him no where i mean even a monkey would pick college,but we will most likley see nothing of pokebeach for a couple of years lol,PANIC!!!>+<

This is very serious. Just try a link to anywhere on the site other than the index page and accompanying news pages. For example, the Redshark download page is completely gone. Nobody in their right mind would take a joke that far.

I feel bad for the guy. :frown:

I do hope he manages to get everything back (surely these servers archive all the stuff).
If not , then can I just say thanks very much for all the work he's done in the past.
Pokebeach has always been my first port of call to find out what's new and happening.

He just might wait until he is out of college and then rebuild it and besides he was saying he was making a new layout and way.
 
Its too bad that this happened. Pokebeach was a great website. I guess I should go and start working on the new pokebeach. ;)
 
I use to go to pokebeach everyday for my Pokemon info (I dont trust Serebii all that much for some reason).
being that Pokebeach has been around for as long as i've been in the TCG (2004-05) I cant imagine the impact these events will have...
 
Meh I personally know WPM has back up code for his site.
Just wait until get gets on today.

And IF he doesn't I do :O
 
WPM, just wanted to let you know that there are many, many of us in the Pokémon community that do appreciate all of your hard work. I'm sorry that you are facing these challenges right now. Please let the community know if there is anything that we can do to help. And, finally, you must do what is best for you. Best of luck in all of your endeavors - Pokémon and otherwise!
 
WPM Good luck...I have the 3 tins that I scanned for ya. I always used your site for the Card Dex. It was so simple to go look for cards! If you are truely down it's a sad day in Pokémon History. I hope you can get everything back!
 
That's really sad. This morning, I checked pokebeach and almost cried! I checked pokebeach EVERY DAY! And I was working on my own set of pokemon cards using his blanks. I hope all of you know how sad this is! I feel so bad, and I hope he gets his files back.


Oh and if this is a April fools joke, GOOD ONE! :biggrin:

Upon reading that "news release" on pokebeach. it's pretty clear that it's a bad joke. there are still 94 pages of archives... wouldn't those have been cleared out with the rest of the stuff?

I don't think it's a joke. I own a web hosting business, these things happen all the time. Moving from one server to another is almost NEVER easy.

Anyone remember Poke-Dome.com from a few years ago? I used to own that.
 
As a web developer and software engineer, I don't understand how this could happen unless the "plan" to move the website was "ad-hoc."

If this aint April Fools, then the real fool was the person who planned the move. You don't shutdown and delete the old website until AFTER you've migrated the new website on a test server. Then, and only then, do you cut the link to the old site, then publish the TESTED new website to the production location.

Bad, bad planning.

I never used Pokebeach myself, but this bad. If its not a joke, I feel real bad for WPM. I'd like to say its a joke, but WHY would anyone want to pull a joke like this on the entire Pokemon community who used PokeBeach for so much? I'd like to say this is a joke, but I'm afraid it isn't. If it is, whoever went to the trouble of pulling it for a couple sick kicks is a fool.

R.I.P.(for now) PokeBeach April 1st.:frown:
