Pokemon 1st Edition Booster Box Question

Hi Guys,

I was able to get two 1st edition booster boxes (Fossil and Team rocket) for 400euro. I'm thinking about opening them but just want to ask some quick questions.

1) Do you think I'll be able to re-cooperate what I spent if I opened the boxes up for the holos and got them PSA graded? I have no problem not having physical money but as long as they are worth the same value.
2) Is it true that I can weigh the packets to find the holographic cards?

Any advice on this would be great.
Cheers

It is true that you can weight the packs to "guess'' if there are Holos in them. But selling the other packs seems to be morally questionable, unless you state it in your listing that your packs were searched. As for making money off of these boxes, I do not think it's a good idea. At the prices these packs go for, you'll barely make any profit, if any. So of these cards, especially in Team Rocket, might make it worthwhile but it's by a long shot. My opinion: keep them sealed, even though it's tempting to open them.

1) Even PSA graded, the WOTC holos are not that desirable. Anything less than a 10 and you will have a hard time selling and if you do you won't come out ahead. If you want to open and grade for your collection that is a different story.
2) You can weigh the packs to find the holos. As Rocket_D said, it is morally wrong to sell the rest of them unless you clearly state that they have been searched. I would say if you are going to open the box, open the whole thing. Get the whole experience because knowing that you are getting holos is boring. Plus we don't need more weighed packs floating around out there.

Weighing packs is unethical.

I don't think that there is anything unethical about it if they are sold with the information that they are weighed up front.
If anything, i'd prefer it in many instances. If I am collecting sealed packs for the sake of their art and history, the lower price I'd pay for a weighed one would be beneficial to me.

Weighing packs and selling them without putting the information that they are weighed up front is unethical.

Weighing packs is unethical.

I disagree. I agree with what funmonkey said, and I also add that I weigh all the packs I am going to add to my collection so I don't leave any undiscovered holos. I open the ones that weigh heavier, and replace them with light ones. I find that that is morally okay.

Thanks guys for the information.

I'm going to sell a box on ebay and open a box! I agree with weighing the packets being unethical! It was upsetting when I bought four booster packs and got no holo :(
I'll sell them / give them on to friends but I'll tell them I weighed em.

Anyway cheers again.

My full statement should of been, "People who weigh packs to sell and don't tell their customers, is unethical". Majority of the time, people weigh packs to make the most money. The situations mentioned are ideal but are not the norm. If someone were to say they were weighed, that would make things much better!

Realistically, people who weigh packs are doing it to gain the odds while manipulating the market. They usually do not tell customers the packs were weighed.

Also, imagine if your stores/suppliers where you purchased packs from weighed them and didn't tell you...

This has been going on for years and years.
It's best to simply assume all packs are weighed and place your bids accordingly. As for me, sealed boxes are the only option and even that's not 100%.

Thats probably just bad luck, happen to me tons of times and its not even that unlikely to get no holos out of 4 packs.
