This guys an idiot. He doesnt have a clue when it comes to the Pokemon TCG, hes living in the past. Anyone who still thinks Base Set Charizard is THE card to have obviously is out of touch with this game and this market.

Whats sad is that his store is based in Austin, TX which has a big population. If he had new product, and sold singles, and knew what to price them at, AND hosted tournaments/league he would have the basis for a nice flow of business through selling cards. He has no customers for Pokemon because he has no new product and doesnt hold events.

If he offered more at his store it might do well in a city like Austin. He could have Sports cards and memoribilia, pokemon, magic, yugioh, heroclix, comic books, etc. But instead hes really only trying to capture one aspect of the market, sports memoribilia. *shrugs*

Its one thing to try and make a hobby store successful in a small market town like the one I'm from, where no one is really interested in stuff like that. BUT in a huge city like Austin and in a huge state like Texas where Im sure there are ALOT of gamers, he really is selling himself and his own business short by only trying to sell sports stuff, IMO.

Geez, chill out. He was talking about FIRST EDITION Charizard, which still grabs at least a hundred dollars, and can reach 300 when PSA graded.

According to this "EXPERT", Pokemon is "weak" and pokemon cards aren't worth anything.
Am i the only one who thinks this guy is nuts? Please correct Me, or Him. Thank you.

I think your wrong Muk Man. Please watch the video again. this guy is bang on as he is talking about specific cards and the game in general. Most pokemon cards are worth very little in comparision to say BBall cards, hockey cards etc. He speaks quite accurately about the market fluctuations as well.

yes he is not that right but he is somewhat right, the cards had a peek years ago that it sold for alot more and cards over all are cheaper then they were before, yes we have charizard EX that is like 200 at chrismas but that like the only card like that, yes pokeon will not die but he never said it was dieing.

LOL
Trust me yeah RARE SPORTS cards are worth more...
But all the othere are just as worthless....

Thats so stupid... IMO the main factor of demand is where you live... Pokemon is popular in some areas more then others... Plus, the cards he was showing were way old and most people dont want banned cards...

I'm no expert, but I have been playing magic for a year or so. And the main problem that I see with the market of pokemon is that only the modified environment is sanctioned. In magic there are four different big sanctioned constructed formats, each one bigger than the other, until it consists of all the sets. Having these different formats keeps the cards that are high in price because they're playable, and not because they're collector items. And even if the cards aren't playable the fact that they can be played and that they have the potential to be broken as the formats shifts(a dirt cheap card rose by $8 very recently because of a new deck in the format), keeps them at a fair value when they aren't sought after. The problem that pokemon has is that it makes new cards, and just shifts them out with nowhere to go and little value to anybody besides collectors, so that cards like claydol will be worth much less in a few years. If they sanctioned more eternal formats, and actually made them matter, then the cards would matter more and have value to larger span of people once again, making the cards valuable once again. And I'm not just talking about just having unlimited sanctioned, I'm talking about having 3-4 different constructed formats, because I'm sure there's little they could do in order to make claydol matter in the unlimited environment, but I'm sure if you made a smaller constructed environment claydol would have a bigger impact there. I think they would have to put some reigns on the unlimited environment as well, things like Mr.Mime & Professor Oak don't need to see the light of day again.

The cards are only banned from tournament play, not league play.
