Pokemon @ Origins?

So, since Nationals is not scheduled as the same time as Origins this year, who plans to go to Origins? Can we expect any Pokemon events there? I think I'll go.

I will definitely be at Origins, as I always help a company run events at the Con. As far as Organized Pokemon, I don't we'll see anything this year unless local people run it. Which, as a local, I hope POP lets us organize something or POP themselves organizes something for the con. We've missed y'all since you moved Nats away...

I am the local PTO for Columbus... I do plan to visit Origins this year, since Nats is on a different weekend. If there is enough interest in some Pokemon tournaments, I can see what I can do, even if I have to run independently of TCPi.

Will Battle Roads fall during the dates for Origins?

Good question. Historically, Battle Roads last week, is the week before Origins. But I don't have an official answer. I wouldn't want to run a free Battle Road at a pay convention anyway.

However, we could shoot for a large Nationals warm up event!

i think i misread what you meant at first. are you asking because you wouldn't want to miss battle road tournaments for origins, or because this would allow battle roads to be hosted @ origins?

I know most of the Columbus players are planning on attending Origins and the LLs are discussing the possibility of running something. The biggest issues are timing and cost but we can look into it.

I've got to tell you, with all the complaining from people not wanting to pay for Origins badges to attend Nationals, I can't imagine people willing to buy Origins badges just to play in Battle Roads or some non-sanctioned events.

More like, let's organize some stuff at a big convention to get people who previously *weren't* interested in Pokemon to *become* interested in Pokemon. Use tournaments as advertising when at a large event like Origins (or Gen Con).

AHHHHh the logic, it BURNS!

And as an option for players/families that enjoy other offerings at Origins as well. Last year, my hubby actually took our boys to Origins on Thursday morning before we drove to Indy for Nationals.

Because this would allow a BR at Origins. If I'd be playing pokemon at origins I'd at least want it to be for points even if BR's are chump change. Larger prizes could even be given away for the battle roads, I don't recall that not being allowed.

prizing at official premier events...such as BR, CC etc...has to be consistent from event to event; TOs/PTOs are not allowed to change the advertised series prizes.

so no, imho a 'BR' held at origins could not be prized any differently from one held elsewhere.

Holding a Battle Road at Origins would essentially result in charging entry (due to having to purchase a badge) for the Battle Road. That doesn't seem right.

It seems like an unsanctioned event with better prizes might be a better approach.

This is a great point and one of the arguments I made against Nationals being moved from Origins in the first place. But I have to finally admit that I don't think that the conventions do much for bringing player to Pokemon. Leagues and PTOs promoting organized play seem much more effective to me.

My daughter and I have opted for Origins over Nationals the last 2 years. Last year she commented at the end of the convention "I didn't see a single Pokemon card here this year." We went back through the vendor hall and she was right. It may have been because some of the vendors were at Nationals and didn't bother bringing anything to Origins. (Not exactly right. I saw a box of Neo Destiny at the place that sells all the "dead games." Harry Potter anyone?)

Couldn't they just give out more door prizes though? Those aren't limited to my knowledge.

That is exactly what I hated about Origins; having to pay $100 for my son and I to be able to access the free Pokemon National Chapionship, after paying for flights, cars, hotels, and food just didn't seem right.

Origins is great for what it is, a $60 game con in the middle of the country.

Pokemon Nats is great for what it is, the best free TCG championship held in a better part of the middle of the country.

Indy>Columbus & Free>$60 per person; just sayin'.

Bringing it back home, I agree that non sanctioned tournaments following current format and rules, but with terrific prize support, is great PokeCandy for all of the Origins' strangers.
