Two days ago I went to my local wal-mart to get a new keyboard for my cpu. When I left I looked at the stock section of all the items they had for Trading Card Games, Deck Sleeves, CCGS, etc. All I saw was POKEMON! Now about two years ago I remember seeing that same stock shelf having 75% all Yugioh Cards on the shelf. Now I looked on the shelf there was no yugioh to be found. The whole shelf was at least 75% pokemon tcg products.

I was curious so I went to the toys department to see if they moved the yugioh products. I get in the isle of that and more POKEMON flooding the isle of products. I was shocked! No ygo stuff. It appeared right then and there Pokemon is killing the tcg nation in my state. I really think after this year. Pokemon will be back on top just like when the first couple of tcg sets came out.(base, jungle, fossil) Anyone else experience anything like this with pokemon just becoming more popular then the usual?

Wierd. The local Wal-marts at where I live barely have any pokemon stuff. All the good pokemon stuff is usually all at Target. Wonder why our Wal-marts suck when it comes to pokemon merchandise.

I suppose it depends. As far as Colorado Spring is concerned, Pokemon OP is big. But Yugioh is big too. Even Lord of the Rings TCG, dead in most areas, still lingers in Southern Colorado.

at out Target's, Pokemon has the most space.
at TRU's Yugioh has the most space, but then again, our TRU is crud.
at Walmart, Meh, kinda even, its also crud

My Walmart is about equal spots to Pokemon, YGO, MTG, and Sports cards. They're still selling DS Pokemon cards and those Eeveelutions promo packs. Still, I'm quite fine to have 25% space with those 4 having equal space on the shelf. TFG is taking up a LOT of space in that shelf as well...

No one buys ygo in Maryland. All the pkmn cards are always sold out, or barly any left, while the ygo boosters have dust on them and always are in full stock. You would think that the stores would figure out which sells more and just drop ygo and get more pkmn. ; )

I olso seem to notice tham my local department store type things cary more pokemon than things like yugioh nowadays. Although i think the recent realease of DP for DS really helped boost sale.

You see, Nintendo (the greatest company on the planet) came up with this thing called the DS.
At first people saw it like a gimmick, then many began to notice that it was fun and innovative.
After several years into the DS's success, Nintendo released Pokemon DP. Which quickly became the #1 Selling DS game, and still is. Hundreds of children of the current generation are now infected with PokeRUS. The anime has become immensly popular amoung the elementary to middle school crowd, and now Pokemon is one of the most popular franchises around.

Shortly before DP's release, Pokemon decided to have a JAA. Which boosted awareness that Pokemon was still around 110%. After DP Pokemon's fanbase quintupled, and is the #1 TCG and most watched show on Cartoon Network.

So, yes my stores have gotten in Loads more of Pokemon stuff since 2004.
Pokemon = Popular again!

#1 TCG is still a little bit of a bold claim. MTG is most definitely ahead of Pokemon in terms of a stable player base, if not overall sales. YGO largely depends on the area. In my area, Pokemon is the 4th most popular TCG, behind MTG, YGO, and UFS...

It's currently the #1 TCG (based on sales) according to ICv2... though for player base, M:TG is tops (and as far as I can tell, no-one else comes close). So it's all a case of how you compare it.

Still, there's no denying that Pokémon is getting more popular

I'm a pessimist. Two quarters of strong sales compared to YGO and MTG really isn't enough to tell me that Pokemon can have sustained sales of this level. I'd like to see how sales are at this time next year before saying that Pokemon is the top TCG on the market in terms of sales.

I will say that BRs look like an unqualified success. In the United States alone, there were no fewer than 52 Battle Roads that had attendance of more than 40. There were at least two that had attendance of over 70. I wouldn't doubt that there were over 200 BRs in the United States alone. There are almost 100 BRs worldwide that haven't been reported yet. I wouldn't be surprised if there were more than 400 BRs worldwide combined. And Cities is looking to be a monster as well. I'd like to see this success sustained over a couple of seasons before I call this game tops. However, one thing is definately certain.

POKEMON IS BACK, AND IT'S NOT GOING ANYWHERE!!!

I don't think you're a pessimist so much as a realist. The one thing that makes me optimistic is that M:TG is going through a rough time (a few uninspiring sets, though I like them), and that PCL are making more interesting and strategic sets for Pokémon.

I don't think it is realistic to say that Pokémon is obliterating the competition, or that Pokémon will remain as popular as it is now. But let's just enjoy the good times whilst they last :)

Well I've seen mixed, but around here Magic: the Gathering is more popular. Even I sorta like it a little more than Poke'mon (Or maybe it's that box I just popped open last weekend )

Pokemon is the second most amazing thing to ever happen to this planet
the first most amazing thing is butter
mmmmm... butter....

TX Wal-Mart and Target stores definitely seem to be stocking more Pokeproduct. I've even seen endcap promotions at a couple of different Wal-Mart locations.
