:shrugs: If he produced that all caps version, that's still not professional IMO.

Removing every scrap of 'Japanese-ness' they can from the dub is NOT doing a 'good job' with it IMO; see the 'bouncing sandwich' thread in this forum. Not to mention the missing 10 minutes from the first movie and the cuts/bad translations/redone storylines done to the others...

IMO a new company under more direct supervision from PUI/TPC _can't_ do any WORSE of a job than 4Kids has..

Oh, the scenes where Mewtwo's talking with the girl and the cloned starters, and they all die off, leaving Mewtwo alone? I actually forgot entirely about that.

That sets the whole ****ing story. MSB was a different movie because of it, basically because Mewtwo had a purpose there. He was a sympathetic antagonist instead of a flat villain.

Now im not going to say anything on the matter other than I have it, but I have acquired the original Japanese theatrical version of Pokemon the First Movie, and....

well, the 10 minuets in Birth of Mewtwo wasnt in the originally airing theatrical version in Japan either! o_O

it begins right where it did for us, with the text Pikachu Project '98 (in japanese), and the bubbles floating up as mewtwo first woke up

Uhhhh...nope.

I have an actual commercial Japanese VHS of "Mewtwo"...and it certainly DOES have the missing footage in its proper place within the movie...did you WATCH the complete prologue?

yes i have... this isnt the VHS, i know it was there. this is the actual version shown in theatres... the only reason i even bring this up is because this is mysteriously missing from this "Original Theatrical Version" as it is marked

EDIT:
http://www.jmdb.ne.jp/1998/dv002020.htm <-- theres the JMDB entry for it, which lists the film as 75 minutes. this video file I have is exactly 1 hour 14 Minutes (74 minutes), and I know the Birth of Mewtwo video is at least 10 minutes long

Is this 'video file' you have a fansub?

no its not a fansub, it is untranslated. but that is beside the point.

my point, which is clearly confirmed in the japanese movie database, is that, though it was included later in Video releases (because it is part of the story), the Birth of Mewtwo, which was not part of the theatre release here, was not part of the theatre version of the Japanese film either. the point im trying to show (that i was startled to discover myself), is that it was added after the fact

Sorry, but I personally need more proof it was 'added later' than the running time off a 'database' site...like a review/synopsis of the movie made by someone who actually SAW it in the theatrical release...

im looking im looking

in the mean time:

http://item.rakuten.co.jp/s-premium/zmbp550/ <-- DVD, running time 109 Minutes
http://www.jmdb.ne.jp/1998/dv002010.htm<-- Pikachu the Movie #1, running time 23 minutes
23 minutes for the short + 75 minutes for the film, thats only 98 minutes... +11 for the Birth of Mewtwo

EDIT: I would like to submit the following two VHS's as evidence:
http://www.studiosalsa.com/pika/info/video/video_movie_mewtwo.htm <-- original film
http://www.studiosalsa.com/pika/info/video/video_movie_mewtwo_comp.htm <-- original film plus Birth of Mewtwo and other

and some various informations pulled up with those catalog numbers (ZMVS-502 from the original and ZMVS-505 from the expanded)
http://www.ex.org/4.3/11-anime_pokemon.html (this refrences ZMVS-502, note there is no mention of the Birth of Mewtwo)
http://www.bulbagarden.net/~dogasu/comparisons/movies_specials/mov01_video.html <-- outlining the edits to the version the US translated (added CGI and others), as well as mentioning the addition of the Birth of Mewtwo sequence

The very first edit they mention in that film is my refrence, that was the very first thing i noticed watching through this in japanese with the test tubes in the scene:

IIRC there are two versions of this movie. The original, hand drawn version and the re-vamped CGified version that came later (and was the one we got). Not sure about the Birth of Mewtwo part though and which version it would/wouldn't be in. :x

[EDIT]nevermind. Anaconda has that covered with the bulbagarden link. :x Didn't pay attention as there were so many of them >_>; [/EDIT]
