What do y'all think?
OK for the average teenager it is pretty hard to come across money during the school year cause most teens have to keep up with their homework/shool work and earning money is a hard thing to come around when there is such a busy schedule and I can't drive.
I mean for grades I get 20 dollars a six weeks (if I make all A's). Other than that my parents usually pay for the fun stuff like movies/tournament fees etc.
BUT if I were to want a video game or packs I would have to buy them with my own money.
All card games are fairly expensive to get into. BUT could pokemon be the most?
Yu-Gi-Oh used to be the most expensive card game, BUT I think Pokemon has passed up YGO now.
YGO has made almost every good/staple card into common form, which one can buy for cheap. I mean a YGO player can make a very competitive deck out of ALL common cards, and that is why I like the game and have been slowly getting back into it.
BUT Pokemon is getting expensive to me. ex's are going for 20 bucks a piece or more, and when buying packs it is hard to get a certain card you need. You are best off buying boxes, BUT those cost around 70-100+ dollars. Where am I supposed to get that kind of money?

Seriously I will NEVER quit Pokemon, but I really do not enjoy the cost factor of the game. I really want to get a good card pull with lots of ex's but that is very hard when you have little money.

AND must any of us mention the new traveling costs that the game is gonna cause. I mean now if you even want to have a SLIGHT chance at worlds you better TRAVEL A LOT. This makes me sick! Cause I can't drive to tournaments whenever I please, especially out of city tournaments. I am only 15!
THIS brings up a major concern and I am ALMOST starting to question why I still try to keep up with this game. It has always paid off for me, but after missing my chance to worlds for the past 3 years and the money it drains from me I am starting to question whether it is worth it.
Once again I have questioned it, but the memories I have had with Pokemon are too great to abandon, and I am going to stick with the game.

Does anyone have any suggestions on how to make the game cheaper for me and other teenagers/people in my situation.

what? Hard for a teenager to come across money? not if you're 15-19. Places are looking to hire poeple to offset those temps who went back to college and train new people for the upcoming holiday season. The "now hiring" signs should be going up soon, in your area, if they haven't already. Get a job, work after school and weekends. In 2 weeks, you'll have enough money to buy a booster box, maybe even 2 :thumb: . If you cannot drive yet, have your parents drive you. Or, get a job that's close to you and bike there.
If you're under 15, then you've got a money problem. If you're desperate, there's always babysitting/dogsitting/housesitting/etc.

And that is one reason I don't like that game. All my ultra-rares are worthless

Like I said, get a job. You'll be able to buy 2 booster boxes after 2 weeks. You may have to wait until you're 16 though. Places don't like hiring 15 year olds.

Find friends. carpool. It makes it more fun than going by yourself anyway.

Get friends and pool your cards. Since you'll be sharing your cards, you'll have easier access to more cards that your friends may not be using but you don't have enough of.
Buy booster packs by the box from websites. If you have a particular store you play at, I encourage buying from them first though - store loyalty. Ask if they offer discounts for buying a box of boosters instead of a few individual ones.
Carpooling saves gas. Bring your own food to tournaments.

I think Magic's more expensive...same kind of travel expenses and such, but with more $7,000,000,000 cards that you need to win.

to me i do not know a MTG deck cost at all but pokemon is too expensive to make than ygo or VS

reasons
1) set rotation every year
2) exs [eg: mewtric deck ]
+ lots more
these 2 reasons are more than enough to make u bankrupt while playing pokemon. The metagme changes everytime and u have to change THE WHOLE DECK if its not enough to be competitive in tournament.LEts compare this to ygo/VS.For yugioh, they have lots of good commons now and its cheap to make a deck, although the stupid cyber dragon cost like a bomb, its gonna reprint soon and more players will comeback. For VS ,commons are enough to make a deck, some decks dont even need rares.

so yeah, lazy to type anymore, thats my opinion

For YGO, most of the good cards are in common forms already (with exception of Cyber Dragon, as mentioned above)

For MTG, archtypes will always have their values higher. However since most people settle for nonfoil cards, the rares don't often go above 10 dollars.

The thing about pokemon is that most of the time, the good cards are either holographic rare, or EX rare. Since it is both demanded (for playing) as well as eye-appealing (for collecting), prices are higher

Also, this might be just in my areas that I have observed. A majority of pokemon players are either adults or very young kids. These are the consumers with the most buying power to my observation. Also adults are more likely to stick to what they picked up as an interest as well as afford it, so the price doesn't fluctuate as much (staying up there)

As hardcore player for MTG, Pokemon, and YGO as well as collector for Pokemon and YGO, I'm certain that Pokemon contributes the most to my cost

my 2 cents

Budget decks work fine. They may require more skill or more adaptation than the "big league" decks, but then again, EX-heavy decks take some finesse, too - losing all your prizes to Rayquaza* really hurts.

YGO is the most expensive game...the boosters and all the major cards (i.e Cyber Dragon, which is now coming in a promotional tin) are all more expensive than pokemon.

Yu-Gi-Oh! is far more expensive than Pokémon! In Yu-Gi-Oh! you only get one or two really good decks and they too have a semi-rotation with the six-month rotating banned card list. To make those really good decks, you usually have to pay a FORTUNE for cards!

VS is what I moved onto when I got out of Yu-Gi-Oh! and that game is also WAY more expensive than Pokémon. Savage Beatdown (a semi-staple at least) can cost upwards of £30 (almost $60) with some cards now beginning to go for more.

Pokémon is a great card game, instantly recognisable characters, the ability to play in a non-competetive environment if you truly want that etc.

The only thing I don't like is it's under-representation in England. I'm in London and I think we get one tournament a month...and it's out in Kent rather than actually in the capitol LOL

Yes, Pokemon is quite expensive. That's why I got a summer job before I attend college this fall. Thanks to that job, I'm buying five boxes of CG. Before this, I'd spend $40 every time a new pair of pre-releases would pop up; and I ws still able to get mosty of the cards I wanted just by doing well those tournaments (our Oregon TO's give a half-box to 1st place).

So, yeah, just go find a job or attend those random pre-releases.

I know nothing about YGO. I'll put that on the table before I say anything else, as my information on the subject mostly word of mouth.

I would venture to say Pokemon is the CHEAPEST TCG right now, not the most expensive. Reason: You don't have to pay for tournaments (other than travel costs, if they exist) and prereleases/drafts are very cheap in comparison to what you get in return. Magic, which I consider to be the most expensive TCG, charges pretty steep costs for their tournaments and pres/drafts run anywhere from 1.5 to 2 times the expense of Pokemon Pres/drafts. There is a larger payout in Magic at the tournament level, however, so this somewhat offsets the high cost of the game for highly competitive players only. As for the rest of us "casual" players, it can be a bit pricey, but hey, it life. VS System is very much in the realm of Magic as fgar as some prices go; however, the VS system, being so new, has somewhat lower costs to attract more people to their starting (and booming) TCG.

NARUTO CCG is MOre expensive!
24 packs = box = 70 - 95 dollars
Pack = 4.50 - 5.00 Each
1 Super rare = 60 bucks! don't believe me... look up "Anbu" For naruto CCG

I don't think pokemon is expensive.
I'm not a collector because i don't like spending too money.
But last years, i built 3/4 competitive decks a year without paying so much, just 50 dollars twice a year to buy cards/boosters and the money for 2/3 prereleases. Selling old cards at the "town-market for kids", an event that comes one in a year, i usually gain at least 200 dollars each year. And this without including prizes at tournament, like schoolarships and boosters.
I think that in games such MTG and YGO, as i always hear, if you don't spend much you don't win.

I think the best thing to do is trading cards worldwide and go to event such the once i said before. Im my area there are many events in which kids sell their toys or their old-items, and i find each year a pack of useful cards spending very few money.
I found out that trading cards can make miracles! Except from LBS and MewTrick, decks as Lunatone, Metanite, Ludicargo, JynxFett, RaiEggs were competitive and not expensive this year. So don't say this game is too expensive.

money isnt an issue for me. Im 15+ and i work over at a clothing store in the mall. It gives me even more $$$ than i need to play the game. I spend about $40 a week on the game, but the most recent thing i bought was 3 boxes of Furthest Ends, and within 1 week i have enough.

But, MTG is the most expensive, i tried building a deck once, i got half way through and ended up using $120!! Yugioh is boring now, i dont like how they reprinted the commons.

MTG is cheap, i bought 1 theme deck, 2 boosters, won 2 boosters, got 3 boosters in draft and found 1 draft decks in the garbage. I have traded some cards and now i have a ultimate deck.

Yugi i don't know much about still i have a deck and lots of cards :p

Pokemon is still expensive, but not as expensive as doing MTG, YGO, Pokemon and Naruto at the same time :p

I just cant justify saying pokemon is the most expensive...

I have to say Magic and Yugioh are more expensive... and I still think even yugioh tops magic in just cards... Lets Thinks about this...

All Good Yugioh Decks Have Atleast 1 Cyber Dragon - Currently 35+ and Mirror Force Which Still Hasnt Been Reprint In Non-Holo and Shouldnt... It Is A Decent 35$ Cards
Oh wait, what about Enemy Controller can you say another 35$+ ... Oh Wow, I have only 3 of my 40 Card Min. For My Deck And I have already spend over 100!! Hmmm Yeh I think Most Pokemon Decks can be a lot cheaper Imo...

Magic is more expensive if you decide to play Type 1 or Type 1.5, instead of the current block or standard...

JMO,
Drew

I make my money from selling cards and from my allowance plsu birthdays and stuff. It is a lot to buy cards, but I enjoy it and it makes me money, so I won't quite for a while.

Not to mention the BIGGEST problem with Yugi...

No cash prizes LOL You spend all that money on cards so that you can win...more cards...
