POP Policy Change Regarding Foreign-Language Cards

Okay here we go, for those that know me I only play for fun. My my card requirement is that the pokemon are cute and fuzzy. (C/F)

I have some thoughts on this announcement.

BDS would it help if the players had a binder that contained only the deck translations in it, and they were in alpha order?

Simba & Lawman brought up good points. 1. Could this rule not be phased in???

2. Could you not just limit the number of JPN cards allowed in the deck?

3. Could PUI work on the box ratio problem?? (if it is a problem)

My other concern is (my mom is from Europe we are the only family state side)

I just feel that it puts the European players at a disadvantage. Most players I would think (don’t know for sure) would be buying cards in the main language of the country.

I think (don’t know for sure stunk at Geography) some countries are small and close together. You can go from one to another like driving to another state.
This means any European must buy English cards to play outside their country.

How easy is it for the European player to obtain English cards?? I don’t know a thing about European OP.

I also know that POP would have been thinking on this a long time.

They would not want to hurt the game, to many of them this is their baby.

Players you need to do what Simba posted.
Write a Clear Rational letter making valid points Pro and Con (there are both) about this decision

ok so stimulating the US economy is complete out of the question in this matter. making packs cost more wont help even if the introduce the japanese sales format. i dont know if wat im saying has any gournd benieth it or if its just random speculations by a kid on the internet. ive dissscused this with my dad who teaches economics/us gov. at an horons/AP level and he thinks that this is a good move for the companies income but not for the fan bace that supplies that income. come on did they really think this through?

i dont play japanese cards and i know some people who do, but ive also heard those same people complain about the over use of foriegn cards at times. im complete unsure of wat the whole point of all this was but after readibg this i get the general idea: MOST SEEM TO HATE THIS CHANGE!!! i played YuGiOh till a lto of the changes came then completely stopped buying and playing. i reacently got back into playing and the game sucks only a few type of decks stand any real chance at winning in anything big. if pokemon carries through with this i get they will get the same kind of gradual drop off of players the YGO had. thats not good. also by the time they relize their mistake it will be to late to get all those who dropped to pick it back up, i forsee a large number of the more "involved" plays leaving this game for something like EPIc, not to say its a bad game- the strategy is so...,so.....,so....

there needs to be a more gradual slope to the point where all foriegn cards are close to completely out of the fromat. we should be allowed to use japanese cards up to what ever the latest expansion is and then only then when weve caught up with japan thye should only allow us to use foriegn copies of cards released in the US. i personly think this the right idea, although it wont stop the import of cards it will slow it down a little. maybe. i also like the you need an english copy of the card for reference idea because it still requires palyers to buy US cards, this will obviuslly up the number of card sales through E-bay and other sales/trade sites.

First:
GG domination
Second:
T1-season
Third:
Japanese-cards ban
Machamp with no Unown G to deal with

I quit.

Fixed.

yea, people have been saying the things I wanted to say, so whatever.
I might quit for a while after this year anyways, this could be the nail in the coffin.

Enjoy your expensive cards and your "No Unown G Machamp" season, crash and burn just as ygo did.

They should just admit GE needs to be reprinted already. While they're at it, they could reprint it Japanese style.

Even if more people buy cards, they won't necessarily want to come off of them if they know that it won't be nearly as easy to get a hold of them once they do give them up. Because of this, the supply of cards on sites such as eBay would, more than likely, dwindle since they are often, at least intially, pushed by people like the Silvestros that knew that they had the Japanese versions of the cards to fall back on once they sold their English copies. If this fact isn't true, then they potentially won't sell their cards and if they don't sell their cards, then no one can buy them and *gasp* the supply is at best the same size but it would, more than likely, shrink.

Good post Aaron- so true.

Now we are screwed! I can afford to buy what Steve and I need. But most aren't going to be
able to afford the needed cards to be competitive and will most likely stop playing. And
this is good for growing the game???

And - of anyone- YOU know what this means / how this just kills Steve and I , let alone
the HUNDREDS of players/ customers who have chimed in on this great
decision.

Woo hoo! Machamp! Yes!!!!

Still, I don't blame GG domination as much as I blame POP right now.

I assuming/hoping that was sarcasm.

At least with GG you can play for a bit, donks are stupid, having such an easy win condition is stupid.

Do they really need a final in Worlds that consist of 6 minutes of 2 people donking each other for them to ban them like Slowking and Sneasel?

Seriously, POP, I understand you guys have a budget for things; but this is like giving all the players the finger- "Thanks for you support over the years guys- now screw off and keep buying our inferior product!"

hmmm, this sounds awfully familiar... that's right... I said that I quit yu-gi... wait, you know that already.

Worlds finals, imagine $7.500 in 5 minutes with pieces of paper.

Donks are stupid, I agree.

This is baaaaaaaaaaaad. Bad for the game, bad for the community. Like WPM said on the 'Beach article, I can only imagine what the prices of English Lv.Xs will shoot up to. Then again, that's probably what they're going for, isn't it?

Japanese players living in USA

We (I, my wife and son) are from Japan and are using many Japanese cards.
It is really terrible to replace all important cards with English ones.
Uxie, Roseanne's Research, Dialga G Lv. X....., there are too many cards to be replaced and they are usually very expensive in US. :frown:
I know the problem, but can't we solve in a different way?
Pokemon is supposed to be for children.
If the rule is to keep, at least booster packs should be cheaper so that more people can easily get the replacements.
(Japanese booster packs cost less than $3 and have 11 cards including 3 rares.)

^ now I feel bad for this person.
Pokémon USA should definitely think about people like this..

BTW if you are living Japan I still think you can use Japanese cards.
but if you moved it would be bad.

I feel really bad for a couple of awesome people I know: Simba, Igor, and Brian. I think this should be announced now (if they really have to do it) so that the change would take place starting when the majority of the world has a format that no longer includes the latest set released (which I believe is Pulse of the Frontier). Granted, this would mean that the change would not be in affect for another 2 or 3 rotations, but by doing this, NO ONE would get screwed from this change in the short run. Please tell me if I am not making sense.

I've never bought or used any cards having any type of foreign language.

...But I am against this. Do they really benefit from making this change? I would think not. I'm sure that many players are upset, and are quittng because of this. People have bought several boxes of future sets... before learning that they have wasted their money. Some people just like to use Japanese cards, and I have no problem with that, as well as most other players. Japanese cards are awesome. It also makes cards much more affordable for player's who can't afford the cards in English. If Japanese packs/boxes really are much better than English packs/boxes, the least they can do is make it the same for us. If they did... we wouldn't be having this problem, now would we!? I don't see the good in this change at all. We have always been able to use Japanese cards. Why change now?

And you guys wonder why it's so hard to get POP to reverse decisions they make? Because you whine about everything!

You're going to complain because a few of you spent money on Japanese cards? Yeah, t hat seems unfair, and you should be upset. But what are you going to do? Make everyone else suffer because you chose to buy Japanese cards? This decision benefits organized play. It benefits new players. It benefits the judges. It benefits PUI in terms of being a profitable business move.

Be thankful you were given until next season to adapt. Not only that, but many of the cards legal now will rotate out next season. Thank you PUI, for making sure none of us have to spend another season fumbling through pages of a card-dex when someone busts out some rogue foreign card on us.

Of course you dont care, you get a free box of each set, Mr. Champ. Its not all about you and the new. People who actually work and buy thier cards for thamselves or kids are suffereing, because with those Japanses cards being banned, English cards are going to be even more expensive. Get the idea???
