POP Policy Change Regarding Foreign-Language Cards

well since i like to think of it like this,

there are many ethnicities in North America, and so i think we should allow ALL cards be usable!!! A card is a card and does the exact thing on the other card in a different language... there needs to be a petition ASAP.

I was texted about this earlier myself while at work, I am very angry. I have bought 2 boxes of Bonds of Time and 1 box of Pulse of Frontier. I have been buying Japanese cards since LA, and now all those cards arent playable after worlds. Well, I am defanitly thinking of writing a letter to POP, and asking for a English Version of EVERY Japanses card I own. Stupid idea? It maybe, and probabaly wont happen, but this is the WORSEST idea in Pokemon that I have ever heard. If somwthing isnt changed soon, within a few weeks, I am sure atleast a quarter of players may quit, including myself.

Seriously, this game is orginally from Japan, you get SO much better stuff in Japanese 20 pack-boxes than in English 36 pack-boxes. If they would make the English boxes worth buying, others and myself woulf not have to buy those Japanese boxes. 3>1 rares, speaks for itself.

I am getting to the point, if POP dont realize what a STUPID decsion they have made within a few weeks, I am out, AGAIN! I will have done lost over $400 in cards, that arent even playable!!!!!!!!!!!

Thank you everyone for your time., I am sorry if I have made a bad impression, but like I always heard, "the truth shall set you free!"

I'd be happy if the English Cards came Silver lined instead of Yellow

Seriously, if that's your only complaint, just paint the edges of your cards silver or something.

This is most likely just an effort to make it easier for the judges.

I really hope that's not the case. If this is happening because POP doesn't want the judges to have to read a different piece of cardboard occasionally, well, it's not even worth commenting on IMO.

As a random user on this site, and not sporting a Professor Badge, I don't know how well my opinion will be received, but I do feel very strongly about this.

The Professor logos aren't that important. Don't be intimidated by them.

It's not lol. I was just trying to lighten the mood by pointing out a trait I like about Japanese cards =p.

I figure that anything i want to complain about has already been said 2-30 times already. Or in some cases my points are typed out very angrily by DP 20 times over and over.

What I don't get is how people buying Japanese packs affects POP that majorly. It has been stated numerous times that the game is marketed to young kids, those who ask their parents to buy them a pack at a local store while in the checkout. A very small minority actually buy these Japanese cards. The only group this ruling helps is the secondary market, where sellers can significantly mark up key cards because people can't buy a Japanese version for a fraction of the price. This will not increase POP's sales by any significant margin, and alienates the player base at the same time.

wow, i'm glad i didn't buy that box of pulse of the frontier, heh.

though considering i have a lot of japanese cards, this is pretty disappointing.

Thank you for always putting the younger players first.

I have a MAJOR problem with this statement. It almost disgusts me.
This puts the younger players dead LAST. Prices of Lv X's (which most major archetypes use at least 1 of) will skyrocket. You have no options. The amount of usable Lv X's in the world was just cut in half, so theoretically the prices should double. Players will have a difficult getting essential playsets to get the ball rolling. Their parents may even discourage such an expensive activity.

And why should PUI put younger players first, discouraging experienced players who have put 100's into this game?
Younger AND older players should be treated equally. They should ALL come first.

Also, about your statement saying "500 dollars isn't that much to lose on cards," that is outlandish. I could have used that 500 dollars to buy English cards instead. How rich ARE you, bullados, to just say that burning 500 dollars is a good idea? You might as well just do that: burn 500 dollars. Put that under your nose and say it isn't a big deal.

Unbelievable

I can't beleive it. I'm so frustrated. I'v bought two japanese boxes this year (one Stormfront and one Platinum). Those expansions will be legal for Modified next year. So, with this decision, I come to the conclusion that I've spended such a big amount of money in vain. This sucks... POP always offers the best for new players, that's why they are taking this decision. So what about us? Long time players. I'm playing Pokemon TCG since 2000 and look what I get... This is just ridiculous...

Oh, and another thing: About PUI's reasoning being that Japanese buying steals from the American Pokemon market, I can attest that pretty much EVERYONE dedicated enough to buy Japanese is definately dedicated into buying English cards as well. I bought a Galactic's Conquest AND Platinum box. I bought spare packs, I attended a prerelease. That is MORE than an average player with JUST the english cards.

I guarentee that 90% of the people who are actually willing to dish out money on Japanese boxes on a regular basis also spend more than enough on the English market.

I always bought my cards from meijer/target so I am not to worried about the change.

But one thing that popped into my head was this

**could this have something to do with the set rotation?**

Maybe pusa released this prior to next set for a reason.

As for box pulls. You guys might wanna try individual packs they sell at target/ meijer.
I spent 90$ on packs the day of release and got 3 lv.x's , 1 shiney, and most of the rares.. Including all G's

That is ludicrously lucky. Getting packs from a store gives you the worst odds ever of pulling anything good.

I have come to one conclusion:
STOP COMPLAINING ON THIS THREAD.
EMAIL PUI ABOUT IT.
This thread will do nothing, but widespread panic at the loss of foreign language cards to PUI DIRECTLY could show them how much their players care.
EMAIL, all of you to [email protected], and leave a well thought out, intelligent response.

YOU DON'T HAVE TO YELL =/

This is a ridiculous ploy to make money by PUI.

If they want America to stop using Japanese cards then market your cards like Japanese cards.

Japanese Cards are higher quality
More Holos per box
More LvXs per box
Better Ratios
They Shuffle better.

This is ridiculous. GJ guys.. no really. Awesome idea.

Now I can shove my 4 boxes of Pulse of the frontier and my 3 boxes of Bonds to the end of time right in the trash.

This problem is only so bad because of the disgusting quality of English cards.

The pros of Japanese cards have been stated over and over:

1. Higher quality- why aren't English cards of the same stock and quality? These Japanese cards are glossier, bend/scratch less easily, and are more resistant to dirt.
2. Better randomizaion- I don't know what happened with the PT batch, but the card printers are doing a HORRIBLE job with "randomizing". I've seen a general pattern of "type" boxes. For example, collectively I got 3 boxes of Platinum. I pulled 3 palkia G lvl X, and 3 Shaymin lvl X. No other level X. My holos and rares and other cards followed a similar type of pattern through the boxes. I have countless Infernapes and Blazikens, but zero Ampharos. All three boxes I opened were virtually identical. I've heard of many other people who get these Palkia/Shaymin type boxes, and there appear to also be some kind of bad lvl X box (with giratina/drapion). In any case, the randomization of English packs has just gotten really absurd. It's getting worse, as most collectors I talk to realize.
3. Better rarity levels- I don't know why, but it costs some 90 dollars to buy these pieces of cardboard so that only a fraction of the cards are even playable. I could opt to buy Japanese boxes, with higher level X counts and higher holo counts, because those are the PLAYABLE cards. It makes the HARD TO GET cards easier to get. Eliminating them from use furthers the burden on English cards fulfilling the same roles. I expect prices to further inflate.
4. Better for shuffling- The cards appear to be of a type and quality such that they shuffle better. Try it and deny this.

There are many benefits to Japanese cards from English cards. I think the real problem here is not of Japanese cards being used for gamesmanship, but the lack of quality in English cards. If English cards were better quality, all of this would be moot.

Remember the real root of the problem: English cards are inferior in economic, aesthetic, and tangible terms. They are of a worse randomization, worse rarity ratio, worse printing quality, etc. If English cards were better, no one would WANT to buy Japanese cards. No one would NEED to buy Japanese cards. Pokemon should be asking themselves why the community, especially the better players, are so displeased. Is it because there is some emotional attachment to Japanese cards, etc. Yeah, maybe a little bit, but I think it's more that we will be forced to buy inferior product at a higher price and to spend more money- while simultaneously having any current stock ruined, and not being allowed to play in a style and manner they have for years.

For States this year I was FORCED to use Japanese cards to PLAY in the events because English cards were simply too difficult to get/pull. Try getting 3 of the same playable level Xs from PT with any amount of luck and then consider the ease of trying this task in Japanese. I don't know how I'm going to do pull off the same feats next year, trying to provide enough cards to have everyone around me play Pokemon.

These are tough times, and POP has made them harder by forcing the community to buy their inferior product.

This wins. <3 Steve and Ryan

If this change comes through and they don't change the ratios, we may as well be playing Yu-Gi-Oh! with more colors.

I myself have just put $600 into heaps of different cards- many of them japanese- to complete my deck, my friend's decks, and have cards for next season.

As a long time player of this game, I feel like they've just gone and kicked me in the gut. Quite frankly, as a judge who has had to deal with foreign languange cards a lot, it's not a big deal for me. But hey, everyone's different... I just can't see this as a good change after weighing the pros and cons.

Way to screw over a niiiice chunk of their players, many of whom were the ones buying a lot of English AND Japanese cards. I don't know if this is some pathetic way to try and boost their sales of English cards or what, but I am NOT happy with it.

Especially that you can't even use Japanese basic energies... WAY TO MAKE IT FREAKIN IMPOSSIBLE FOR ME TO EVER GET PLAYSETS OF MATRIX ENERGIES.:mad::mad:

Wow really? And I mean that honestly.

Me and my girlfriend go and buy 20-30$ worth of packs every week or two and always pull something worth while.
We both have multiple x's, all shinys, and all secrets.

I guess we are acually pretty lucky XD

I really don't think emailing will do much to change there minds. It's a world wide ruling and maybe that's what they are going for. Getting a lv.x now will acually be worth something. Making some cards more valuable will over all make you want to buy more to get more.

Protectionist economics at it's absolute finest... Wait until they make only american pokemon sleeves and deckboxes legal for tournaments.

This messes up a lot of friends of mine who otherwise can't stay in the game unless they bought japanese cards. Forcing people to buy local cards in this bad economy is absolutely poor policy, especially when times get better and players are able to switch back over to english cards. This will force people out of the game and they simply won't come back.

If anything they should at least keep all of the different european cards legal in each country just because of all the overlap. It definitely isn't fair to them how you could just jump across the border from say, france to germany and all of a sudden your cards aren't legal.

I also just realized that the foreign cards they give you as part of your worlds invite are now useless too. I guess there isn't a point adding that to your grab bag any more.

I'll say this again and everyone has been saying it so far.

Uxie will double in price.
Claydol will die by September so no one cares, but Uxie is the only draw engine, soo....
Leafeon Lv. X, Garchomp Lv. X, Palkia Lv. X, Dialga Lv. X, good luck getting those.

Put a limit on how many foreign language cards are used, like, 8 so people can get 2 sets of stapples in.

PUI, do not head into where Yu-gi-fail went. The gaming market saw where that went. Next you will start changing rarities to more rares like they did; provoke the players and people will actually quit.
