Possible City Championship Tournaments on Vancovuer Island !!!

What's up what's up vancouver island pokemon players,

As you all know, City Championship is coming around right after Pre-release Tournaments. We’re planning to organize one City Championship Tournament in Victoria this year. As soon as we are close to finalizing the details for the weekend, we will be letting you guys know what’s up soon.

However, there are some issues that I would like your feedback on. I would like to organize a second tournament on the same weekend at a different location because Vancouver Island is big enough to host two City Championships. This would make it more worthwhile for you guys as you wouldn’t be travelling so far for a second event. Also, this would make mainland players that were thinking about travelling more worthwhile as well, giving the chance of playing in two tournaments on one weekend trip.

For reason of it being a City Championship, we can’t have both at Victoria, so the other tournament would have to be at a different city. The idea is to have it in the middle so we would have people from Campbell River and Port Alberni coming to play as well. As of right now, Nanaimo seems like a big enough city to handle this. I was wondering how many of you (Victoria, Campbell River, and Port Alberni players) would be interested in this idea of having two City Championships but with a little bit of travel. If you are interested, could you offer possible locations where we could hold the second tournament? The venue has to be able to hold about 20 and maybe 30 people. All you guys have to do is provide me with the store name, location, and phone number and we will contact them.

The whole idea is still a work in progress and I’d appreciate any input you guys can give. If enough people show interest, we can make this work. If not, there might be only one or even no City Championship on the island this year, and we don’t want that to happen.

Thanks,
Bidier

2 city champs on the island
2 city champs in the city

that doesn't seem proportional to the # of players in the respective areas.........

THanks for the heads up BDA! Need be I will gladly contact the ALberni guys if they are not on here and you want me to pass on the info? Just pm me a name and phone number!

As of right now I have approx 8 players interested and possibly more but it is up to getting to Nanaimo. 8 for sure but possibly more!!

Now to those City people thinking it is unfair....... How would you think if you lived on the island and had to drive 2 hrs (each way), take a ferry ride which is $75 minimum (each way) plus gas and food? How fair is that?:nonono: So 2 is not fair? sheeeesh please. I'm having a hard enough time keeping my league up and running because of the lack of tourneys, I do run fun in house tourneys but that is mostly out of my pocket so you can't whine about fair .

did we get a prerelease? No

did we get a battle road? No

Would you think that is fair?

I totally understand why our PTO didn't run any over here and I totally respect that but please before you whine about fair maybe think about us a bit less fortunate that love to play the game but don't exactly get to play in premiere events as much.

I wish you luck in Vancouver Island. It's great to see the game grow!

Thanks you very much. I feel much better now! :)

well i agree that the island dosn't need 2 if we are only getting 2 but I would go to both of them anyway,
Also about ^ you have alot less players when we have on the mainland and putting a bunch of events far away from most of the players to make a few players happy dons't seem fair. I could understand 1 but 2 is a bit much.

Look at it this way - it would be a great way to grow the game. If we all had events exactly where we wanted every time there was a series of events, there would be no reason to grow the game in other areas would there? We've had phenominal growth in Ontario when we tried to branch out. You can too.

I almost complained, but then I saw the league numbers for Campbell river and changed my attitude. You guys deserve at least something.

P_A: To be honest, I'm not sure we have room for the growth at the moment. We are getting around 60 players per tournament, and none of the card shops can hold more than 70. So now we have to start moving stuff like CCs out of local card shops probably, which is a unfortunate for our TO.

I'm sure Steve can figure something out. If you can get a bit more spread out, there may be less need for larger events - just more of them. However that kind of attendance is good. I wish I had those numbers. Good job guys.

One thing I'd like to note however, is that if He has a group of players in a separate area, and the trusted infrastructure (judge team) to service those areas, he can sanction the events and have someone else run them. Of course he'd still be responsible for the events, so that makes it all the more important to get and retain good help. If you are one of those, perhaps it's time YOU suggested a branching out as well. Taking on responsibility for yourself is also a sign of a good judge, and will help everyone out in the long run. Working together for the common good.
