I've noticed a trend of people posting FAKE deck/combo ideas "just to see who uses it."

This is not good.

I know you're IMMEDIATE response is "Well, if they're dumb enough to use it..."

It's not a matter of how smart the readers are; some are NEW and others are young and take YOUR word at face value!

There are new kids AND adults who are DECKING and COMPETITING with your bogus suggestions and they're confused about why their decks perform so poorly.

THE PURPOSE of these forums are to HELP each other IMPROVE strategically and to gain a deeper understanding of the game.

IF you're having fun and posting a funny idea (that you're aware would be very bad if actualized), please simply follow it with a "Just Kidding" or "don't do that for real :eek: " or ANYTHING that lets an impressionable reader understand that the spirit of your post was sarcastic and/or jovial.

Seriously though, these fake things just get annoying. Only half the people here actually believe them. Most of us just get a good laugh out of the latest half baked attempt to fool the general pokemon population.
 
Does this mean that all threads that mention putting Electivire FB in a deck will be locked? :wink:

TBH I think it is sometimes hard to tell the difference between the 'joke' decks and the bad ones that people are serious about.
 
That is true. I usually laugh at both of them. I've found that for either one, it's useless to argue that they have a sucky deck, because people just don't want to listen.

I've been called a bad player by more than one n00b who was convinced that his silly little power heavy Hipo/X bad card deck had a good matchup against Legos/X other good lock deck. >_>

It's easy.
The bad decks that people are joking about are usually posted by good players like Lafonte members, people who almost always get an invite, etc.

The bad decks people are serious about are posted by newer members generally.
 
And then what about the whole thing of people just asking "Gimme a deck with decklist nao!", we cant give fakes out to those?
 
lol thats funny what about cosmic madness thats a deck i really do use but only for fun at league its funny watching the person you are about to play get all worked up because they dont know what deck im playing then i start with a baltoy then they losing then after anther baltoy then baltoy then 3 claydols lolz there like what deck is this the cosmic mqadnees deck & can say does really good lol but anyways you got my point
 
Hey, I have a Biberal deck made. Don't knock it, it is one of the best decks you can give a new league player. 4/4 Biberal is a simple competive deck that you can give a new player.

Well half the "combos" that these newer players make up for REAL I could beat with Biberal/Mismagius =/

In all seriousness though, many people thought Cosmic Chaos was real. Yeah it was an April Fool's but not 'til the day after was it actualy REVEALED to be. If an idea runs its course people usually come out and say its a joke. Well, I did at least. Do you propose you put a limit on how long we allow a thread to fool someone? It's no fun to post a joke if you can't watch responses >_< So posting "Just kidding!" in the OP sorta defeats the purpose of a joke thread.

And really, to what extent does the definition "Fake" really stretch on a so-called "Fake" idea? I mean, I built a lot of decks I joke about on here. If they're quite literally BUILT I don't see how they're "Fake." They could be "bad," but fake and bad are two different things. I suggest going with the term joke to better clarify the entire idea. Still, I offer my cooperation if it's all for bettering the 'Gym I S'POSE... but I honestly don't see how to enforce this. Like I said, I can make a good "Joke" deck that's better than a lot of these "Real" bad decks.

Getting a god hand with incredible draws while my opponent gets nothing and makes ridiculously stupid plays is totally legit!

Noting sig change. I'm jealous....... BTW Anyone netdecking a fake deck deserves to do bad..,.. I do agree though that posting fake decks is really kind of lame.....

That's NOT what OP suggested... Rogue suggested if you DO for some odd reason feel the need to post a "joke" deck, do so with the proper disclaimer. That's all. Not too difficult. There have been plenty of crazy deck ideas that were meant as a joke, clearly stated it and were enjoyed by the community.

Guys. You're assuming the target audience is tournament players.
You can't tell me that an 11 year old that logs on for new ideas and decks bibarel/mismagius DESERVES to LOSE because they trusted a post that had 7 pages of argument about why a deck is so BDIF. They just see a buzz and hop on the bandwagon thinking they've made a discovery.

Of course, you've been so good for so long that the concept of being a newbie probably escapes you altogether :lol:

ALOT of people come to this site every day seeking guidance and ideas that will help them PROGRESS from NEWBIE to "Player."

This audience includes:

-- New PokeParents
-- Young Players
-- Inexperiences/new Players

PokeParents who have a GIST of how the game works may read these boards and SUGGEST some bogus idea they read from these boards to their children.

YOUNG players don't have a solid grasp on the concept of Sarcasm. So, they're decking your bogus idea.

Inexperienced players are not knowledgeable enough to understand what's bad and why.

The end result is that you create ALOT of CONFUSION that is not necessary.

Anyone who feels this way needs to reconsider your approach to the game.

Answer = No you cannot!!!
That's SO BEYOND the Spirit of the Game guidelines and is a demonstration of MALINTENT.
Pokemon players win on merit. Not deception and tomfoolery!



IF you post a sarcastic or Joke suggestion, simply follow it with a disclaimer like "just kidding" so people who DEPEND on you guys for insight and deeper understanding of the game are not confused.

It's not always about you. Please consider there's an entire community involved.
 
thank you for this post. this is one of the saddest things about pokegym. That is why i don't like a lot of lafonte players. *prepares to get bashed to death*.
 
And when I DO post a joke deck (or at least a FUN deck) with a disclaimer stating it ain't gonna win big tourneys anytime soon, people are like "GTFO NOOB GET SKILLZ AND A GOOD DECK".

Hmm.
