We have a tradition at Phoenix Games where the week before the Water Gym we hold a practice tourney with the format. So this year the Practice tourney will be on Tuesday July 10th during our League session. Registration will be at 6:00 PM and we will try to get started around 6:15 PM

Format is Heat Gold Soul Silver sets through Dark Explorers. You can only use Water Type Pokémon and the special rule this year is Stage 1 Pokémon are treated as if they say that they are basic. BASIC POKEMON WILL NOT BE ALLOWED TO BE PLAYED So you can start the game with a Prinplup as you active Pokémon and you can search your deck for them with Pokémon Collector. You will be building a 40 card deck and the rounds will be 20 min. long.
**NOTE** Legend pokemon are allowed
There is no cost to participate and I will buy the winner of each age group the Pokémon pack of their choice.
(But as I will be playing I am not planning on buying any master players a pack)

40 card deck?

Also, we can run basics and stage 1's correct? I.e. I can run piplup and prinlup both as basics?

NO the format has been changed. It was that way two weeks ago as I asked David basicaly that exact same question and he said yes, but I have just learned that new rules have sensce been posted and basic pokemon will no longet be allowed to be played this year so No Pokemon EX at this years Water Gym only Stage 1 and Stage 2 water tyep pokemon. Oh Legends are legal so watch out!!

Sorry, I assumed you were using the Water Gym rules.

I am using this years Water Gym rules as they were explined to me by the Water Gym Guru himself when I faced him last at at BR two weks ago, if the rules have changed from what I posted I have not been made aware of such.

OK My wife told me he rules have been posted to Facebook, And he has changed them drastically over what he toldme in person two weeks ago and it is what I tiod my gym members about) so now we all have to drasticaly rebuild our decks. I would be more upset with this change because the decks I have under the rules I understood were awesome and I had to spend an hour going though the cards in our Storeage facillity to build them (Not my idea of fun), But we can not attend the Water Guy this year becuase of the date change so even if the decks were built with the original rules for this years Water Gym no one would have faced them anyways.

New rules are not posted at the first post in this thread. Changes are that DP on has been changed to HGSS on and now basic pokemon of any kind are not allowed to be in the deck. (Not my most favorite rule) so build the best deck you can and practice with us at Phonix Games on the 10th if you can make it.

sigh. Looks like a 20 spot wasted on some awesome Diamond-Pearl era cards :-\ . I really wanted to play my no-energy stormfront gyarados deck too. Would have been really fun with expert belt and Pokemon Contest Hall.

For clarification, are the actual rules posted somewhere or can they be posted here so I know what I'm building ? pretty please.

You can play Legends at the Water Gym, along with Restored Pokemon (since neither are Basic Pokemon.) I don't know about Jeff's tournament though.

No the pupose of this tourney is a chance to test decks before the big day so if Legends are leagal in the water gym then they are legal in the practice tourney.

I have now built three legal water gym decks with the updated rules so I am still not expecting to buy a back for the winner of Masters but we will see.

My wife found them on Facebook. I dont use it so I dont know how she did it. But I belive I have the correct rules posted now,

I know what you meant I had my deck going 120 damage Gyrados T1 or T2 90% of the time. And that is probably the reason we were cut to HGSS on instead of DP on.

so if i understand this tournament and the water gym one are using the professor cup rules of big boy pants where stage 1 are treated as basic and basics aren't allowed. with a few extra rules of water poke only and legends restored poke are allowed

also jeff http://pokegym.net/gallery/displayimage.php?imageid=52506 is the only restored water poke course it doesn't matter much since stage 1 counts as basic you can use http://pokegym.net/gallery/displayimage.php?imageid=52507 as your starter for a nice opening game wall
