i know prereleases dont count on your premier rating but i was thinking that maybe we should get a set amout of points for just showing up to the event.. like even if it was only 2 points that would still be better then getting none.

what are your thoughts about this?

2 premier points for participating in a prerelease.

No, it's a bad idea. I am not going to be force to pay 25 to get 2 premier points. That means if you play in 4 or 5 (some people make it to more than 1 on a certian day) than you gain 8 or 10 points. I just don't think buying premier points (which is exactly what it is) is a good idea.

Ewwww No, Bad Idea IMO!

Personally, I don't play in prereleases, I can go to 3 if i really wanted to.... so thats $75 for 24 packs, 3 packs of sleeves and 3 promo cards. Sleeves/Promos I don't care about.... so I can pay $75 for 24 packs or go on ebay to buy a full box for the same price.
I am sure I am not the only one who feels the same way, I know a local pokedad who feels the same way, it just isnt worth it for him and his family (wife and 5 kids)... he just gets boxes for his kids.

Don't get me wrong, prereleases are fun and all, and I would reccomend new players to play in them, but adding the prize of "a set amout of points for just showing up to the event" just isnt fair to those who decide to sit out.

i know what you guys are saying.. but im not saying that it has to be 2 points.. even like .500 of a point would be kinda cool. i have noticed that many people start playing / first time playing, at prereleases. its an easy and fun way to get these newer players up and into the game. also with them only being .500 of a point it wouldnt make a differenct to many peoples ratings.. just enough of a boost to maybe get up a spot or 2 in the rankings. making sure that you only can recieve those points one time might be an idea?. so you could goto 1 prerelease , or 500 of them and still only get .500 points.

so maybe this

one prerelease = .500 of a point
10,000 prereleases still only = .500 of a point

that way you cant go from 50th in a state to 1st by just attending prereleases.

thoughts?

what if just top 2 or something get points and non loses points , but i must be at least x amout of players if not no one get points.

and its just 2 points to the winner ??

prereleases are 90% luck. its no fair giving 2 points to the luckiest player of the day. or the player who's best at slipping cards they got the day before into their decks.

thats why i said

if you goto one you get your points...

if you goto more than one then you dont get extra points because you have already earned them

i don't think that it's so much buying premier points, but it would be nice to get one or two for showing up at an official pokemon tournament.

generally players here are the same ones that play in cities, regionals, etc.

I thought you had to "earn" premier points. Just because you attend League every week doesn't mean you automatically get league points.

ya you "earn" premier points at a pre release by
spending money to get to destination
25$ to enter
playing 4 or 5 games

all of the above sound like a normal regionals, cities, states. (without cost)

all im saying is that why are prereleases the only P.O.P. sponsered events that dont get you any points?

i wish you got something for winning pre releases.
I know some people get a winners pin for winning one?
not sure. I never got a winners pin for the over 5 pre releases I got first in =[

No points because your cards are COMPLETELY RANDOM, and even the best deckbuilder will be iced by their packs at one point or another.

Second, it would encourage CHEATING which did take place when there was a pin, or a box on the line.

Not a good thing.

Enjoy the events for what they are, a good fun way to get packs and stuff, and hang out with friends.

For those of you who say "Well e-bay is cheaper for packs"...well, yeah, I guess it is.

But, if you stop supporting the stores in which you PLAY the game, and only support the internet, you had better get used to playing Pokemon on the internet.

Please support your local game stores that pay rent and give you the space to play in league week in and week out. Without your support, they will go under. Trust me, I see enough go under every year that it is hard to take.

Pay the extra few bucks a box, and support your local gaming store.

Ends rant from soapbox.

Interesting idea, though there is a considerable reward component to our rating system I'm not too sure how it can be argued that it is logical to reward attendees at a pre-release with a small boost towards playing at worlds. What you propose would be pure reward with no assesment of skill. It is that lack of any straightforward way of assessing skill at a prerelease that excludes pre-releases from premiere points.

What Vince said.
And... because it's FUN!

I don't know about you guys, but I have a ball at PRs!

NO

PreReleases, like Chrisbo said at mine, are just for fun. You get to see new cards early, play some games, think up new combos and strategies with the new stuff, etc.

Not made for points, kinda dumb to do that. $25 just for .500 of a point?

I agree completely with Vince et al.

Prereleases are not meant to be competitive. And I'm quite glad they aren't. By having them without official prizes for the top finishers, it completely discourages cheating. Remember that Limited in virtually all forms is a highly difficult format to Judge and Staff because not only is there the motive to cheat, but it's also far too easy to give a friend the slip. There's also the family and friends angle. I know that I was guilty of using my younger cousin at some of the older Pres to get a larger piece of the pie.

I remember an instance of cheating in the Dragon prerelease where a guy claimed to have pulled a 6-6-5 Sally line out of 6 packs. And 3 of the Shelgon were the Rare variety. Everybody was calling shenanigans on that one, but there was no way to prove it.

No points. No impetus for cheating. No impetus for gaming the system. Prereleases are still generally pretty well attended across the country. There is no need to encourage points jumpers to attend more than they would.
