Regionals is now the most important event of the year.

Nationals is ALWAYS the most important event of the year. Highest k-value, invites on the line.

I agree w/ Ian that Regionals will have more of an impact on ranking invites than last year, but a
good run at Nats. could easily gain you 100 points or more ( I gained something like 136 points at
Nats. this year).

So - if your close to the top 8 - a ranking invite isn't out of the question going in to Nats. due
to it's K-value. Just plan on playing, not working the system for your invite ;)

Will be interesting to see the attendance at spring battles
roads with such a small k-value.

^ agreed

nats is the hardest for any country
and if i may say so, i think its even harder than worlds for us (if you make it in)

one regionals is saddening, but since i only went to fl regionals last year anyway, i doupt it will make a difference

two states is really annoying, particularly if i get put in another state and want to attend both fl and the state i am in, because now they have a 50/50 chance of falling on the same day

meh, we shall see how this new idea of PUI\'s ends up working out

T8 US nats?
T8 Canadian Nats?
Canada gets own ranking strcture?
only time will tell

Putting it bluntly, it's absurd to think that Canada would/should receive as many nationals invites as the United States.

Canada definitely needs its own rankings (as does Mexico), but a 150 person national should never be worth the value of a 750 person one. Period.

Cyrus: I'd bet that if sales volumes in Canada matched those in the USA that Canadian nationals, even if it was an 150 player event, would get similar levels of support to USA nationals.

Sales drives OP support which ought to increase sales, which drives further OP support...... Its a virtuous circle. well that's the theory anyway :D

if canada with 150 people nats gets as many invites as the us with 750 nats, i would personally be severly annoyed, sales numbers or not
the invites should be a base refection of the number of players in the game

Are they implying that there's going to be no grinder to Worlds this year? Say it ain't so, Joe!

Now what would I be able to do if I visit Worlds this year?

Grinder is more than likely to exist, that way they can fill any leftover spots from international player who cant attend (cough*mexicovisaissue*cough) ctually there was no grinder listed last year, but halfway through the season they brought it back by popular demand, so I see no reason to pull it away again.

um, why are people saying there's no grinder?

Last Chance Qualifier
Date: August 15, 2008
K-Value: N/A
This event provides players with a final opportunity to gain an invitation to the 2008 World Championships. Beyond the predetermined number of invitations, additional invites may be added to account for unclaimed invites earned via National Championships or Premier Ratings.

The Last Chance Qualifier will be held at the same location as the 2008 World Championships.

True, but it's a safe assumption that there's a relationship between overall sales (the larger buyers being competitive players and collectors)/tournament attendance, and it's a fact that Canada's stake in the game is less than Uhmurrrrica's.

LOL dropping from Regionals. If anybody wants to do that, I hope you're at my Regionals. So you're going to just drop from Regs and Nats and earn $0 JUST to get into Worlds, where you have to face the best players in the World and T16 to look like you did something all year? Yeah, ok. Would make my life a lot easier if people were moronic enough to do that.

And it's a theory which is not fair.
Can we International players help it our LD's are not allowed to sell recent product.
Can we help it that big chains of stores are grey importing an masse and therefor not contributing to our OP but to the USA one?

I haven't seen such large scale parallel import since Expedition and this time it's much much more.
In our largest Toys store chain they are selling MT since it was released in the USA and not little of it.
They were selling DP since it came out in June.
These stores are (according to what LD's/POP says) responsible for the majority of sales.

It's not possible to trace the stream of product, but I know a lot of distributors in the USA sell a lot of product outside the USA. I have reasons to believe that the amount of "grey" product sold in my country is much more than the "white" product.

^wow, another point i agree with, im sensing a pattern of intelegent people...
the game shouldnt be conducted by sales, it should be by player size
if finland has more invites than germany, finland should obviously get more chances at invites (not saying it does, just using it as an example

not that anyone would ever drop from a tournament to get a vacation to florida vrs maybe winning the scholarship. Im pretty sure most people would rather win a 1000 for top16 at worlds than for top2 at regionals. I dont know why it would make your life easier if you're needing people to drop to increase your regional success either.

what?
if you win the regionals, not only do you get the scholarships, you also get a much higher increase in your ranking, and a greater increase to worlds
the only real reason people have to drop is if they know their top cut match, and know its basically an autoloss, any reason other than that is stupid

It's more like: MAYBE getting a trip to Florida, considering you're going to STILL have to play in U.S. Nationals.....Can't just blow through cupcakes this year and not have to play in the hardest tournament in the World.

LOL at you saying I need people to drop, as if you even know who I am. (I won the one Regional I went to last year, did you?).

Yeah dropping from regionals seems pretty horrible. Nats is gonna be the deciding factor anyway unless you X-0 every tournament the entire year, so why not go for the scholarship? I don't think ANYONE can sit nats now if they want a trip unless they don't lose a game all season.
