Prerelease Prizes

My thoughts: It is usually not good to run something one way for an extended period of time, then decide (out of the blue) to change the way it will be run in the future, especially if the first way was fine and made most (or everyone) happy.

I also don't like it when companies say, "You get (insert item here) AND a surprise!" That makes people wary as to what it may be. And when they take out something that made everyone happy (+2 boosters) for that surprise, I can easily understand why that would turn people away.

That's just my opinion. Don't flame me for it.

Did you ever consider that maybe the thing they replace with the two boosters will be totally awesome and blow everyone's mind away? Must people assume it is something evil and negative? Last time I checked, POP gives great prizes in everything they do, so I would have no reason to doubt that them taking out a mesely two packs for something else would be to hurt selfish players' wants. POP is on our sides folks, I thought it was apparent ever since WOTC lost the license for the cards.

WPM - True. But the problem is WE DON'T KNOW WHAT IT IS YET. Sure it could be something absolutelly amazing (a cool card binder is what I hope for), but most people will not expect something that good. And for the people that DO expect something like that, they would be extremely dissapointed if they go to a pre-release, hoping for something good, and find out that it's actually something lame, like a deckbox or card sleeves. (That's my opinion of something lame.)

Also, I'm still going to go to my pre. LM is such an awesome set, I may even go to two. However, what the "surprise" is will determine whether or not I go to the next pre, in May.

It might be worth it money-wise, but you have left some factors out:

1. Time. A prerelease lasts most of the day, where as you can walk in to Wal-mart and walk out with boosters in 5 minutes.
2. Driving. The VAST majority of players have to drive to these things, some very far, some asking parents for rides. Gas is NOT cheap these days, in case you have been in a coma for the last year or so.
3. Food. Sure you could bring your own lunch, but thats a hassle. So it's either hassle with home brought lunch or money for eating out.
4. Playing. Maybe it's just me, but I for one do NOT have a ton of fun playing quick games of Oddish vs Magikarp with the crap decks you make with prerelease cards. If there is something good to be gained, sure, give it a shot. But there isn't now that they took away the box prize for first place.

I don't know about you, but getting a few packs at a meager discount simply doesn't add up. If the entrance was still $15, maybe. But $20 for 8 packs is not THAT fantastic. I've seen buy one get one free at Target from time to time, THAT is what is fantastic, thats about $1.75 a pack.

POP is not impressing me thus far with the prereleases, the first ones were just awesome, but now they seem to be getting worse and worse.

Coming from a PTO, all I have to say to you is dont play! I dont need your money, and POP doesn't either. For every one person that complains about how the prereleases are getting worse like you , I have nine people who are more than content with what we do have, which is more than we ever had before. So just stop your complaining and next prerelease do everyone a favor and stay home.

Everyone is entitled to their own opinion and that is what everyone here was doing. No need to flame someone for their 'opinion'. Also, being a PTO, I would hope you would be more than a little open to suggestions AND criticisms to make sure future events are even better than previous ones! Again, JMHO :)

Here we go again with the trader's point of view -_-' ...

Did you read my math up there? Unless they were to do something really big(I'm talking backpacks, duffel bags[or some sort of bag], t-shirts, 9-card binders, etc.), a trader wouldn't care. There would be more than 120,000 of that item(check my math ^ up there), and that's saying all of those numbers up there are minimums.

Also, Pokemonmaster1110 brings up some good points. First of all, it used to be $15 for a gurantee 6(maybe 7?) packs, plus a box for the winner, half for 2nd, a 4th for 3rd and 4th.

We can't complain? We went from no box/extra winnings for the top winners to a gurantee 10 packs for everyone. Now for $15, that is still good. $1.50 is really cheap. But then they upped it to $20. Okay, so $2 isn't too shabby. But now they're only making it 8 packs and special LM merchandise? If they would even reveal what it is, then we'd have much stronger opinions. If its crappy, then outrage breaks out. If its awesome, then peace comes.

Wow. Long time since I typed a lot on a single issue. =P *Puts up flaming shield*

Hi, I'm going to add in my opinion.

I go to the pre-releases to get cards, and have a good time. $20 for 10 packs is GREAT, it keeps me coming.

I'm going to go to one, I usually go to 3-4. If POP makes it worse - I'll prolly only go to one, because 8 packs is not worth it.

I am not saying 8 packs for $20 is not good, BUT, this has been said by others and I will reiterate: You have to factor in TIME.

For me to get to a Pre-release, I have to drive over an hour if I'm at home or find a ride if I'm at college. Driving an hour and more is gonna be 3-4 gallons of gas each way, which is gonna be another probably $10. Then you are there the whole day. If I have to get a ride it means I usually have to take a train out to near the person's house, and wait for 30 minutes. That's $10 for the train roundtrip, plus more time waiting.

So, while I LOVE going to Pokemon events, if POP wants me I need a GOOD deal, because it takes so long to get to them and there are a lot of hidden costs.

I'm not being spoiled - but if it is actually going to be significantly cheaper and will take a lot less time to just buy the boosters later then I have to do that. I'm not being greedy I'm just not rich and need to look for the best deals.

except pop doesn't want the same people attending more prereleases--they want new players attending way more than that.

My 2 cents...

I for one knew this would happen sometime. PUI/POP has to start making money instead of just breaking even, if that. 8 for $20 is still great, can’t do that at any store. The cost you pay for gas and time is really part of the entertain cost factor you have for any event/social activity you go to. So that complaint doesn’t hold water when you factor that into anything you do unless you stay home.

In any new product, the company has specials to get you to buy and try; this is so with the pre- release to entice new comers and not just the core support. It was needed for growth and a new Pokemon boom!

I’m sorry for people that can’t see the whole picture, and can’t get past "I'm not getting 2 packs!" Even thou there are incentives put it place to help you get over this hump.

This is happening time after time with Pokemon and other games, price changes and cards refaced are the most popular change we have to deal with. We overcame those, as they even never happened, the same will happen with the pre-release change.

Yes less boosters may not be as cool but your getting 6 to play with so having 2 extra and an EXCLUSIVE deck box is cool. I like the idea and hope it goes over well.

So people aren't going just because their missing TWO little packs of cards? So just because its 8 LEGEND MAKER PACKS and not 10 packs, everyone gets upset? And like many people who posted before me said, be thankful you even get prereleases.

I mean you are still getting a pretty good deal with 8 packs for $20 when a MSRP of a pack is $3.29.

Poliwag, Its not about prereleases themselves, we have problems with the prizes.

"Be Happy There are Even Prereleases"

^ That is such an obvious way to avoid the problems many players have =\ The point is we HAVE prereleases not that PUI is gonna take them away instantly, they'd lose their own money so if PUI doesn't wanna hold prereleases because players complain, by all means, knock yourself out.

My Two Cents

Tom

Well, over here, we pay roughly 25$ and get 1 extra booster + 1-3 boosters for top 4.
Be grateful for what you have.

Tommy's Back: My friend, PUI makes so much money off of the game, why should they care about pre-releases? They give us pre-releases to be kind. They could take it away and guess what, it wouldn't hurt them one bit! Definitely be happy we have events like this at all.

I don't see why everyone argues though. If you don't want to go DON'T GO!

Personally, I'm going to keep going because I enjoy seeing all my friends in those areas, and playing with the new cards. Because **GASP**, there is more to pre-releases than just the pure PROFIT.

Yeah! Let's Boycot the best set since any of us can remember?

Have ANY of you been watching what is winning in Japan???

Also, give some of us PTOs some credit....we always have a way of sweetening the pot, and you know we will (OK, at least some of us will!)

Talk to you soon!

How would we know what winning in Japan? I don't know any JPN web sites.

Keep your ears to the ground, and you actually hear things!!!

Has been announced on this site previously that Arcanine EX and Electrode EX were doing well in the November fall road (pre DS) events.

Talk to you soon.

I don't see how so many people are so happy about this...i don't expect to see your posts complaining when booster boxes no contain 30 boostrs or something of the like.

It's easy to ague 'all of this for just two boosters?', yeah it doesn't seem like they are taking much, but its the fact, but things stat to add up, startin this season the price was from 15 to 20, and now we get less boosters. is it still such a good deal? it went from 2$ a booster to 2.50, that is no longer a good deal, a booster box is about 100$ and you can get it cheaper so 2.50 is nothing special at all.

back in the day boosters were 2.99$(were they ever cheaper?) for 11 cards, then the price was raised, then cards were taken away, because of the 'e-reader', e reader is long gone and we still have the same ammount of cards. you say its only two cards, but those two cards have made uncommons rarer and out a booster box you now get 324 instead of 396 cards. things add up.

we have the right to complain, you say 'just don't go', ha, i don't think PUI would be too happy about that at all.

its the social event that is worth it? i'll have to think about that, but i've never liked the idea of paying for playing, specially if the prizes for the winners are not that great anyways (another thing taken away from prereleases), 4 rounds out of thirty card decks is not something that special, i could just play for free. and use that money at other social event.
