Presidential Race Discussion (Romney NOOO!!!)

Protestant refers to a Christian group who are not Catholic.
Protestants are different from Catholics because they don't do the Hail Mary/Rosary/Saint thing

Martin Luther started this in his reformation against the Catholic Church.
"Protestants" can be labeled as Methodists,Baptists,Lutherans, and other Christian sects *which they spit cause they disagree on small theological issues*

Calvinists are also a group who fit into this category, even though they aren't really a sect/ they just don't believe in free will; they also believe in the elect and predestination.

The word
[SIZE=-1]Presbyterian in the United states is also synonymous to Protestant although the Calvanists think they are the only ones since THEY started that group.

ps moza if you have anymore questions about differences in (any major) religious sects ask me ok :)

*cough* back on topic please, which is super tuesday, and not the different christian denominations in this country...further OT posts will be deleted.

It's kind of a bummer that the discussion couldn't integrate religion more than it did, because on the Republican side, it has played a huge role. The evangelical vote is what has saved Mike Huckabee, coupled with the "Wal-Mart" conservative voting block (I love that!). As for Mr. Romney, well...He is to Mormons as Barack Obama is to African Americans.

By the way, anyone want to share any specific Super Tuesday stories if you went out and voted (and if you aren't shy, share who you voted for)? It's good that Pokemom's the most recent poster, 'cause well...California was pretty darn important for both Democrats and Republicans.

i'm not saying religion hasn't a place in the thread, when applied to the candidates themselves. but the random 'explanation' of different denominations, never mind the completely inaccurate 'info' about obama is what pushes the OT button for me.

if religion is brought up as part of the discussion of the CANDIDATE, fine; random theological factoids is NOT. does that make sense?

I think California threw away their influence.
Which their district by district designation of delegates, it amounted to a split, with the winner only get a few more delegates than their opposition. In effect, it made itself look like a much smaller state.

Nawww, that post of mine wasn't directed at you. I was more lamenting about the fact that my Poke-peers couldn't incorporate religion into the subject matter more successfully. :X

lol just saw some of this stuff on the news, thought they said John McClane at first. Wouldn't be surprised tbh if a fictional character became president. Especially as portrayed by Sir Bruce Willis.

the dude looks like an aubergine.

First off, your primary is already over!

Secondly, it isn't silly for independents to vote in a primary. That way, you have a little bit more say in the two-party system, and help ensure (or avoid) a certain candidate.

The only "downside" (if you even call it that) is being an official member of the party whose primary you vote in until the end of the year; however, your party affiliation has NO bearing on who you can or can't vote for in the general election (in other words, you can STILL VOTE FOR ANYONE!!!).

Perhaps a miscalculation for Ron Paul, considering nearly half of the states have closed primaries. This made it more difficult to gather actual recorded primary support among voters who either didn't realize the importance of voting in the primaries or were uninterested in doing so based on "laziness" or not wanting to be registered as Republicans (as evidenced by remarks in this thread). His platform obviously resonated with quite a few people in light of his considerable grassroots fund raising with Independents, Libertarians, less religious fiscally conservative Republicans, and anti-war "liberals" disenchanted with having voted for Democrats in 2006, only to see nothing change. It's kind of ironic that a Libertarian has to run as a Republican to win a congressional seat or to be taken remotely serious as a presidential candidate under the system in place. Sort of how Yeltsin was a "Communist".

this tie seems to favor obama which is good because we really don't need a woman president now( or ever) esspecially clinton who is despised by most republicans, obama at least isn't hated by all of them. Still i think John McCain would make a really good president too. If only there was a prochoice, taxcutting, anti***maridge, timetable loving, athiest candidate i could relate too.

If you don't think that Hillary Clinton should be president, make the argument on her personality or her politics...NOT on her sex. As much as I disagree with Clinton and Obama (hence why I'm not voting for either come the general), blacks and women really have been shut down due to bigotry like this.

Then again, maybe you were just trolling.

According to AOL, Clinton has an 85 delegate lead over Obama, with possibly Obama's strongest stretch coming up. For the most part, Obama has got the support of the South, the Midwest, and the Mountain West. The next few Democratic Primaries? Louisiana (71), Nebraska (31), and Washington (95). I really think that the race could be decided on March 4, when Texas and its 232 delegates are voted on.

The Republican race seems to be close to finished. Though he hasn't won many states (12 compared to Romney's 11 and Huckabee's 6), McCain has won the *right* states (Calif 149, Fla 57, Ill 55, MO 58, NJ 52, NY 101), and has doubled his competition's delegate totals. He probably won't win until well into May, as his support is mostly in the states that tend to lean Democrat, and there aren't too many NE, MW, and Pac Coast Primaries that are clustered around a particular date. I don't expect him to win any of the Bible Belt states, including Texas. Still, he's only got 484 delegates left to win. Rabbits can be pulled out of hats occasionally...

Ok fine she cried in public this in my mind show weekness, weekness that most women are prone to show. Weakness that a president shouldn't have. Thats why i don't like her maybe if she didn't cry and be such a "woman" i would vote for her.

Maybe if she strangled a puppy you'd feel better about her?

:thumb: yeah if she strangeled a puppy I would SO vote for her /sarcasm

I don't see why a lot of the Democratic party is against bearing arms (guns); Safety yes maybe. But the Government can run it's own thing if the people can not fight back. Also I won't go into the Abortion thing I think pokegym has heard my rant about that too much. More funding for Health care: doesn't sound like a bead idea really; Socialized Health care may sound good and all, however that means paying more taxs, and the government owing more money. Pro Public School: to be honest the US public school are not the best, there are some that are better than others, but I think people should be able to choose or not. Do Not get me wrong I am against homeschooling and private schools (especially religious ones).

Clinton supports some idea of a racial and sex quota for workplaces. I thought you couldn't hire someone just because of those things. May the best person get the job, and if there is racizm, sexism involved let the company get in trouble like Abercrombie and Fitch .

I think it's great that an Asian female shares the same stance on affirmative action as a Caucasian male (me) :D

Affirmative action is racism, and you don't correct the problem of racism with "more" racism.

Predictions?

Predictions for the Rep. race now that Romney is no longer running and ransoming delegates? For the dem. race with Obama slightly behind but with favorable contests ahead? Will the Green nominee be Swift, McKinney, or Nader?

I foresee another very close race with ambiguously similar candidates for both major parties a la 2000, 2004. And a puppy squeezing scheme uncovered if you-know-who makes it to the final round.
