What does it cost?
Entry to play in both the North American and European Professor Cups is free.

Who is eligible to play in the Professor Cup?
• To participate in the North American event, you must be a Professor who has earned at least 75 Professor credits between September 1st, 2013, and June 13th, 2014

• To participate in the European event, you must be a Professor who has earned at least 50 Professor credits between September 1st, 2013, and April 25th, 2014.

• We will post a list of all Professors who have qualified for the event on our forums one business day after the window to earn credits closes (April 26th for the EU event, June 14th for the U.S. event).
Any Professor not on that list has one week to contact us via our Customer Service site with any eligibility concerns.

Any tickets regarding eligibility concerns must have the subject line: Professor Cup eligibility

We cannot guarantee that any ticket submitted with a different subject line will be reviewed in time for the event.
After that week is over, we will create the TOM file to be used at the event and no names will be added to that file on the day of the event under any circumstances.

• Credits earned and redeemed during this time still count toward the entry requirement.
• Professors may compete in more than one Professor Cup.
• Players who are found in violation of the rules of eligibility are subject to suspension from Pokémon Organized Play and loss of prizes.
Review the Rules of Eligibility in our Tournament Rules document as they will apply.

• To participate in the event, you must be a player in good standing and abide by the Pokémon Tournament Rules and all other applicable event rules.
• See the Legal Notices for certain eligibility requirements and other information, including information concerning limitations on The Pokémon Company International's liability.

What is the tournament structure?
The Professor Cup will be run using Swiss Pairings. The number of Swiss rounds is dependent upon total attendance, with higher attendance increasing the number of rounds.
Swiss rounds will feature single game matches with a 20 minutes plus 3 turn time limit.

Rules for Deck Construction
1. Only cards from the Pokémon TCG:XY expansion or later may be used. This does not include KSS.
2. 30 card format: Constructed.

Additional Rule: "Uncommonly Unpredictable"
1. Decks created for this format can only be made up of Basic Energy, Common and Uncommon cards.
2. Players should expect the unexpected. There is a chance that event staff may issue instructions or alternate rules which will immediately affect all players for a limited time.

If you say "Has to ACTUALLY be a Common or Uncommon," none of the promos are legal since they lack rarity symbols; special effort had been made to mention they were indeed, so we can assume we can count them legal regardless of their lack of rarity symbols. The way it's tacked on at the end even makes it appear an exception to that rule - "Black Star Promo Cards numbered XY01 and higher will be allowed." Yveltal EX falls under the heading of "XY01 and higher promos," so by rule as written, it's legal.

in before static rule for tournament, "All non EX pokemon have the Safeguard ability (No damage or effects from EX pokemon)"

This is unprecedented, but it's possible that Yveltal, Yveltal EX, Xerneas, and Xerneas EX will be banned because they are just reprints of rare cards. I mean, if promo Yveltal EX is legal does that mean I can use the set version because it's just a reprint? Doubt it. Sounds more likely that the promo version would not be allowed because the set version isn't. It would be very odd to allow one but not the other since they are the same card. An official word would be nice to clarify.

Either way, that still leaves Garchomp EX legal lol

still needs to be stated explicitly.
Can't have people guessing what the interpretation is and then show up with illegal decks.

It wouldn't be unprecedented. Remember Gastrodon?

The rules have been updated, XY promos, and KSS are NOT legal for the professor cup.

Can we use up to four of the same card or is limited to two because its a 30 card deck?

So are DCE and Rainbow Uncommon and allowed?

The rules for 30 card decks are 2 cards with the same name.

Can anyone show up to observe or is this a private event?

I'm not talking about participating, I'm talking about observing. This format is wildly different than standard play and I would love to observe it in action from people who know how the game works.

Yeah, it's right there in the Convention Center, usually in the Juniors play area. This is a very loose, for fun event, so I'm sure you can hang around and watch us play terrible decks.

Posted with permission of Dan, as said by Dan:

That said, I would not play with cards that are super precious to you.

Other people may end up handling your deck more than usual due to the format and I am going to have a pretty low tolerance for any complaints about that aspect.

Maaay want to avoid using your super special holo anything.

I am going to make sure precisely half my deck is holo. I have no idea what to expect. What if "You can only play Reverse Holo cards this turn" is a thing?!
