Pokémon TCG: Sword and Shield—Brilliant Stars

PSA grading.

I just got an ebay order and the person described the cards as NM-mint

I don't know if I am being to harsh on 13 year old base set holos, but I am disappointed in a couple of them.

You know, the holos have some silver flecking on the edges, and the backs have white specks on the edges and corner.

Very minor really, but visible upon close inspection. I can't see it when I just look at the cards, but under light if I inspect closely I can.

I got a good price on them so I'm not upset, but I was wondering if that sounds like near mint-mint??

Yeah, that's how the old wotc cards were produced. Even straight from the pack the cards had that flaking you're talking about. That's what keeps most of the from being 9.5's. I consider cards graded 9's from that era to be 9.5's. Because very few ever printed would grade 9.5 let alone a 10. Smpratte stated that a couple of posts up. And I've had he same experience.
I sent in 147 cards recently and most were straight from packs and none of them earned a 10.

I'm also assuming that he's talking about older wotc cards.

Frank, do you have pictures of those gem mints? I am very curious about that claim as I have graded thousands of cards with PSA and never had a gem mint as described.

I've got two Beckett's from wotc era Gem Mint 9.5. I'll send you pics if you want.

I think PSA is better...
Just because I know Beckett has those 8-10 cards at walmart for $5

Which makes me wonder...

Those are BCCG cards not BGS cards. Those cards at wal-mart are from a retailer who sent in hundreds of cards to BCCG & is selling them cheap.

The difference between them is for BCCG you have to send in like 100 cards at a time & they grade them in bulk & don't use the .5 grades that are used for BGS.

So Beckett has a sub section?
That just seems...

Lazy or odd...

and why would they sell them cheaper than what it cost them to get them graded

Hmm I see...
So my best bet is to take all my Japanese cards there that I know could get a "BGGC" grade of 10 then resell for $100s each?

I think that BCCG cards are for quick resale & mostly retailers that sent in hundreds of cards used that service. If you look on eBay BCCG sports cards sell way less than BGS cards. I have no idea why Beckett ever came up with BCCG.

I just thought I'd throw my own experiences in with this PSA Beckett debate. I had two Beckett 8.5's that I regraded with PSA and got 8's on both! Those were my only two experiences with Beckett card regrading and I wasn't happy. Everyone says Beckett is super strict so I figured regrade the 8.5's and probably get PSA 9's and make some profit, needless to say that didn't work. I also have a PSA 8 1st edition base Charizard and a Beckett 8 1st edition base Charizard. There are so many silver scratches on the Beckett compared to the PSA that the Beckett one looks more like a 7. Not to discredit Beckett or anything but these are my experiences and I know where I'll be going for all my grading needs.
