AHHHHHHHHHHHHH! If I fail this test one more time I am going to yank half of my hair out. This time I answered 28 right, last time it was 30. I keep the compendium pdf open, i have a notebook full of all of the tournament documents, rulings, etc. I study, and I get opportunity to apply the rules at my league and at some of the city championships recently, but still nothing. Today marks a year of me trying to take this test.

I can admit that I've never been good at tests; applied knowledge is my specialty.

Other than time and more studying/effort, does anyone have any advice or input? Like i said, I use the compendium when I take it.

Thanks

Review in the e-mail what you got wrong. I haven't taken the new version, but if it is anything like the old version, the questions are trick questions with trick answers. Make sure to read the answers thoroughly for any that aren't accurate but make an attempt to look correct.

Hey There, Just To Comfort You Really But Something I Do For English Exams Called SATS and GCSE's I Brainstorm Everything and then i get someone to write out a small quiz , ide say ask a professor to write you out a quiz and then fill it out whilst things are still fresh in your mind.

Good Luck And All The Best,

The Machampion

I've been having the same problems myself. I've taken the exam about 6 times, and end up getting around 28-30.

Ctrl f is your friend as well! When you go to start the quiz, have a pencil and paper to write down the exact time you clicked the last answer, so you know when the 5 minutes are up per question. That takes the pressure off of trying to get an immediate answer (which can be nerve wracking), and help you not to hurry through it. I haven't used the ctrl f thing yet, but hey, I'm certainly gonna keep it in mind when my time is due again. And yes, definitely review the wrong answers you gave on earlier tests, and make sure you know what the correct answer is.

As was said, some of the questions are trick-questions, so you have to be VERY careful. I'm not sure if they've updated it yet, but when I took it the questions still referenced older sets that I had never even played with! So, if you're in that boat, make it a point to look at sets like RS-TRR and familiarize yourself with those cards.

Don't forget about the luck factor. I know that a Professor should try to eliminate luck when he/she can (like when judging) but it IS a factor whether we like it or not.

5 minutes per question? i know that there are 40 questions, but i thought that you only had 40 minutes to take it, no? that's a minute per question.

You're pretty much where I was before I passed -- first attempt I got a 24, then a 28 (I would have passed had I not ran out of time and left 10 questions unanswered, because I knew the ones that were left). Finally passed on the third try.

One thing that catches most off-guard the first time they take it -- make sure you have read everything on the Rules and Resources page and are familiar with the material. Questions from this material make up most of the last half of the test. Since these questions are pretty straightforward and require little thought, try answering these first before going after the ruling questions. That at least gives you some padding.

Go back over the failure emails and see what you missed. Look those up in the Compendium. Read the ruling and the reference text a few times until you understand why the correct answer is the correct answer. Doing this will educate you on the general game rules underlying each ruling, which is what you really need to know.

I'll tell you this much -- despite the claims of many here, there are no trick questions on the test. But every ruling question does require you to read carefully, which is a skill you'll need if you hope to be a good judge anyway. Even though it's a timed test, don't get in a rush, because that's how you'll end up missing something important in the text. That was the main cause of my first failure -- rushing and missing the obvious clue that made the question brain-dead easy.

Excellent point.
Just as in a tournament, you should not assume that you know the whole story after just seeing the general scenario. Jumping to conclusions makes for bad rulings. You need to make sure that you pay attention to all the details of what is happening so that you make the correct ruling.

My favorite question is removed for good reason - we do NOT discuss questions on the test. Yah Right like UF anything is good to play. This test needs to be re-done with cards, rulings etc from the current DP format.
Pokemon good - Proffessor test very poor
who cares about older powers and effects when they can' t even be played. Re-release the card and we will learn the ruling.

I took the test just on a whim becuase my wife (who is a professor) was having some issues re-upping on her's and I wanted to see how hard it REALLY was. She was gone when I took it and I almost didn't tell her that I passed it on my first attempt (by 1 question) and I thought it would hurt her. But I decided to tell her and she was like GOOD JOB! i'm like wow..lol.

Anyway, the test isn't that bad as long as you read BOTH the questions and the answers VERY carefully.
i didn't even have any resources open...AND I don't play the game very often, Just know the rules before you take it and you should do ok...

The Biggest problem i'm sure you guys are having is the thought of "OMG IF I FAIL THIS I CAN'T BE A PROFFESSOR! I HAVE TO DO THIS, O GOD...WHAT'S THE RIGHT ANSWER! ZOMG *other panic situation things*

BIGRED TIP OF THE DAY: Relax. if you fail, you fail! Wait a month and take it again... But unless you calm down you WILL fail this test. It is ment to test GOOD JUDGEMENT and ability to handle Stressful/puressured situations with a cool head. so again! RELAX

Older cards are still relevant to Professors as long as Unlimited is a PUI-sanctionable format.

But that particular question does need to be updated for this year. (I know that question, it was on my first test.)

Indeed. If you just want to help out and judge a tournament, being a Professor is not necessarily a requirement (depending on your TO), although being one helps demonstrate your commitment. The only thing you miss out on are the points and the cool prizes you can buy with them. My lab coat is on its way in January :)

Just don't relax too much. Time was the cause of my second failure :)

well, i had the highlighter and my printed copy of the compendium out today already, and i went over my past professor failure emails. i am going to beat this test in one month! It is a bit problematic that I have to wait a month, though, as it is difficult to keep it fresh in my mind for so long.

Thanks for the input everyone.

I just got a 31 the other day. One more right and I would have gotten it. And one of the ones I got wrong I had changed my answer to -_-

I don't think what set the questions or powers come from neccesarily is that important. I think they are looking to "see" if we can interpret the cards for a correct ruling. Don't "read" too much into the questions or you will drive yourself crazy, usually your first and gut instincts are the correct ones.
GOOD LUCK on your next attempt and hang in there.

I didn't know we could use the Compendium to help us answer questions...that makes it a kit easier.

Anyway I've never had a problem passing as long as I read questions carefully and watch out for grammar. I also pay attention to questions asked to judges during tournaments.

i have taken the test 2 times i believe, the first time i closed the page an the thing messed me up big time, bombed that one

second time i got 28 out of 28 right, i ran out of time

my problem is i have a hard time reading/under standing the questions. Im dyslexic so it takes me awhile, an a few times of reading over an over to understand it, but thats my problem lol

but i keep on running out of time! I'm gonna try again the next night i have some free time, i do wish though there wasnt a time limit...

i have been reading the rules section an the compendium allot, the compendium has help me out allot when it comes to 2 on 2 battle questions

best of luck!
