Quad Cobalion Ex

Saw someone playing quad cobalion ex. Anyone think this is viable? Basically just cobalion ex, keldeo ex and plasma engine. From what I can tell.

Call me crazy but I just don't see it. Yes, it eliminates special energies with its first attack, and bests plasma Kyurem. Fire isn't really played, so it doesn't have much of a problem with weakness.

But then what does it do against Blastoise/Keldeo? Or even Darkrai?

Or even Gothitelle/Accelgor? Of many popular decks in the format right now, the only one that is dependent on special energies is Plasma Box (Kyurem, Thndurus EX). As Swordfish said, what if you play against a Darkrai or Blastoise deck that use 100% basic energies?

I guess if you had some way to accelerate Cobalion, doing 100 damage a turn isn't bad. You could play it for fun...

Yeah. I mean it uses keldeo float stone to get out of status effects. Plasma engine to do 100 t2 plus virbank lasers for additional damage. Catchers to pick off squirtle and other weak basics needed for setup. I guess it wouldn't be dependant on discarding special energies, but doing damage that can't be stopped.

If you're going to cite the Plasma Engine, then you need to keep in mind there's better EX Pokemon that can utilize the engine without a badge... like Tornadus ex. Tornadus can do 120 damage on turn 1, and it can refresh your hand. Lugia can also do 120 and might even get you an extra prize. Why even bother with Cobalion?

Keldeo/stone can be teched in any deck too..

Is Tornadus EX [Plasma] really that much better?

Guess I just get paranoid about what happens when a loaded one goes down... though I guess Power Connect alleviates some of that. I think the appeal of Cobalion EX comes from:

  • Fire Weakness being relatively safe
  • One Energy attack that hits for damage and discards Special Energy
  • Three Energy attack that bypasses pretty much everything
Plus... on Six Prizes someone insisted on using it, and I think this is the deck that eventually came out of that.

Yeah those two are pretty big hitters, but they are weak to L Pokemon. And due to the popularity of plasma, thunderus ex is licking its chops at the sound of lugia and tornadus. Fire isn't played that much, so weakness won't be too much of a problem. Lugia can't benefit as well from lasers because then u miss out on the extra prize. If you get in a bad luck with plasma energies, tornadus does 60 for 4 energy. Cobalion will always do 100 at least for 3 energies. Shoots through klingklang and sig as well. Im not saying that its the best by any means. I'm just saying why not cobalion? Its seeing more play in more decks, and its always a pain to get rid of. Why not try to run 4 of them with some techs and see how ur opp deals with it?

^If they play the deck right, that chance will never appear. While they may only run 4 DCE, it should never be on the field during your opponent's turn giving them the opportunity. Even if it is on a benched Mew EX/Accelgor/Shelmet, Gothitelle will probably be active making sure it can't go away to the effect of hammers/catcher attack with Cobalion EX.

You can enjoy Cobalion as long as you can.. Because next set will most likely kill it. Since Fire decks will become used more with grass running rampant.

Quad Cobalion also just isn't that great.. It delays.. If correctly played, but the ones who tend to use the special energy like TDK, ends up getting it back thanks to Thundurus.

Really hit or miss.

Cobalion can be a good card atm yes..but with other Pokemon included. Like Landorus and/or Bouffalant variants. Garbodor would be a nice deck-mate, for the time being.

that is why you run drifblim with as well.

It's more about his weakness to the Fire that will be everywhere when the next set is released. That's the real issue he's going to have.

/extinct.

It's the reason Landorus NFA dropped from $30 to $10. Easy and common weakness exploitation.
