This is my prediction.

what raikou has going for him:
-he has energy acceleration (eels)
-he is a basic that snipes for 100

I think there will be a tier 1 deck that uses raikou. pairing it with zekrom and eels makes sense, but
I also believe he can be used with kingdra prime or maybe even chandelure for extra damage. Skyarrow bridge gives Raikou free retreat.

The new Vanilluxe would be a very interesting partner for him with its Ability: switch active with a benched pokemon and opponent does the same (similar to warp point i think).

With vanilluxe, switch raikou with a benched Raikou after using dynamotor to refuel and you could max potion (more energy to discard for dynamotor)/seeker up raikou that was previously active to heal all damage he may have received. Use catcher, seeker, vanilluxe the right way and you could snipe around something with high retreat cost.

Raikou snipes support pokemon your opponent may have such as eelektrik, reuniclus, vileplume(if worked with chandelure somehow would one-shot it), victini.

Overall, I think Raikou is going to be the best EX card we will get, not mewtwo. Although I think mewtwo will be really good. especially until we get the next sets.

Hi

I know this is really excelent EX card

This could work in Zektrik, because with this you may always get your last Prize and win the game
Mewtwo doesn´t beat this EX easy because Raikou has almost always 0 Energy attached and Mewtwo counts only own energies

Raikou EX has incredible Retreat Cost for EX pokemons
1 is so great, with Skyarrow Bridge Raikou has 0 Retreat with Huge HP

This is only EX which can use Max Potions for sure
Raikou works with Trainer Lock but Vileplume will be dropped next

I think next format is BW-on
I think Raikou EX/Eelektrik could be great deck, Mewtwo EX/Thundurus or Zekrom early attacker would be great, or even Tornadus is useful
And this deck needs 4 Pokemon Catchers to get always Pokemon from your opp. bench to his or her active which your opponent doesn´t want active

Raikou is a very good card.

Mewtwo is a very good card.

They will both see a lot of play. They will both have a big impact on the meta.

Yeah. Both are good

How about deck like:
Mewtwo EX/Raikou EX/Eelektrik could work

We see later Raikou EX decks when it has released in english version

I'm not sure we will see Raikou EX decks as such.

But you will definitely see 1-2 Raikou in a lot of things.

It does seem that Zekrom/Raikou/Eelektrik will be a very solid deck because of how it can already use Eviolite, Eelektrik, Skyarrow Bridge (2 Raikou + 2 Eelektrik can be back to back 100 snipes - ouch) and just hit for a lot of damage via Zekrom. Mewtwo EX also looks like a good tech since you can Dynamotor onto him and X-Ball for some damage.

What about Darkrai EX? People seem to forget there is going to be a whole engine that it both fuels and supports it come Dark Rush. Raikou kills truth decks, but I'm skeptical about how it will do against everything else.

Raikou EX will function much like previous ex's such as Blaziken ex and Steelix ex in the idea that he'll be apart of decks based around Eel, but he will not be the main focus. He'll simply be one of the focuses available.

Raikou EX = busted

It's a better Garchomp C Lv. X, just missing the SP engine, but has so many ways that it excels over GCLvX that it makes up for missing that engine.

Donphan swoops in and destroys Raikou ex, so Donphan MIGHT pick up play if Raikou ex does, but that is a big might.

I politely disagree. Raikou is inferior to Garchomp since Garchomp can be charged in one turn (DCE + Energy Gain). While he does 80 less than Raikou, it's Healing Breath what really makes Garchomp a powerhouse.

and I said I disagree. I didn't say you were wrong. Donphan is still a good card and will be a good deck, but I don't think it will be a great one. I think Terrakion will be the best counter for all of the lightning in the meta. I think that's why it was printed.

Actually it was printed for pokemon to make money. I do agree with you. I think Terrakion will be better than Donphan.

has raikou been confirmed to be released in this set yet? And as far as deck ideas with Raikou decks, he could be used in truth variants in conjunction with Darkrai for free retreat (as far as i know, darkrai is just free retreat for anyone with dark energy, not just darks, please correct me if wrong).

Have you heard of this pokemon called "eelektrik"? Just curious, you know....cause it's one of the most played cards right now in that EelZone deck you might have heard of. He puts energy onto raikou without needing a special energy that is maxed at 4 in the deck, or a tool that decreases attack cost.

I also didn't know if you knew about that huge HP RaikoEX had.

Or the fact that you can run 4, not 1 or 2...

...oh, and he does 100 snipe.

This thread is a boss. I have the same views. Raikou is going to thrash the format, Mewtwo will be decent. OHKOing Reuniclus is a beautiful thing.

I have to disagree with this prediction... Mewtwo will be a bigger threat than Raikou. They'll be played together without a doubt though.
