Hold up a second.

By "good" theme decks, what do we mean?

Japan's theme decks are, in reality, not competitive, they just have good cards.

There are definitely some good cards here for a very good price. Where's the complaint exactly?

It might just be that this deck is pretty much the same as Plasma Blast Mind Wipe but with a less playable Genesect. You're probably right on playability though, most people at least want something playable. There are good cards here as you said and that's the biggest reason why this product is so popular, cos you get 2 of each of the great trainers in this deck and in reverse. Some of the Japanese decks featured EX cards and I know one even had an Ace Spec too. The problem with these type of decks though is that they can devalue the cards featured, though I'd love for there to a deck like that in the West. Same with this deck, now less people want trade for/buy catchers and ultra balls. Maybe people are disappointed by the Pokemon. My pet peeve is that not only is it a type combo that is too damn common, it's almost exactly the same as a theme deck that came out just over a month ago. However, having a perfect theme deck would mean everyone would go for that same deck (like TDK or Virizion/Genesect).

The fun in decks is making it your own and figuring out card combinations for yourself. Theme decks are fun that way too. They give you a base to build on and you can customize it to be both playable and unique. E.g. in this deck there's an unfinished Porygon line, one could add in Porygon-Z (not worth it IMO) and some plasma energies to change things around a bit. If people really want catchers/ultra balls buy a booster box of PB, I got at least a set of each of the trainers and bonus amounts of some of the better ones like Juniper, plus you get enough Pokemon to start making your own deck (not to mention guaranteed UR cards).

In the end I think $20 is a tad cheap for a product this good, with all these great trainers (I'd say making all the cards non-holo would be better at this price). A bit higher would be more suitable, though I'd be disappointed to pay more of my money, it would still worth the reverse deck with great cards and the extras.

I have a suggestion for this set. I suggest for a product like this to be released every year.

I wouldn't mind that actually. I'd prefer it if they released it along with the set most of the cards are from (so it's less likely to copy another theme deck) and with an appropriate price for the contents. $15/£10 for a tin with promo EX is good pricing so they need to do more of that.

At the end of the day, the fact that they don't usually do great decks like this results in us not knowing how to react and sparking controversy. The market for trainers wouldn't be so bad if they did decks like this in the first place.

I'd rather have it separate from expansion sets, but include cards from multiple sets. Looking at the Pokemon in this deck, other than shiny Genesect, 100% of the pokemon is from the Mind Wipe theme deck, which is kind of stupid. Why can't there be pokemon from Plasma storm and Plasma freeze mixed in?

Also with the release of this, TPCi just destroyed any future sales from the Mind Wipe theme deck.

This does come with two boosters right?
I heard they are Plasma Blast & Plasma Storm.

That is correct, one Plasma Blast and 1 Plasma Storm though I'd prefer Plasma Freeze over PS, or even just a second PB.

And yes the only people who will buy Mind Wipe now are those that either can't dish out the extra bucks for this or those just looking to get the foil version of normal Genesect. A real shame that they shot themselves in the foot like this. Now I'm expecting the Chespin November deck to be Grass/Psychic because TPCi are too lazy to do other type combos with Grass.

This was a really welcome product from TPCi regardless if it "destroys" purchase of the Mind Wipe or not. Locally, we've had an influx of newer players in which I've simply run out of supporters to "hand out" especially from the older sets. I had even just bought 40 more N 2 days before I found what they had to give out which cost me $2-3 each. Locally older sets like Dark Explorers and Boundaries Crossed even cannot be found anywhere for N's and Skylas. This was exactly what was needed to get newer players to have the foundation to build their decks, just 2 of these gives them a playset of what "most" decks use. Having it in RH is simply a huge added bonus. Outside of the trainers, everything else is "extra".

Man, you should have been here between Diamond and Pearl and Black and White TCG sets. 100% of the sets between Diamond and Pearl and Black and White had one theme deck which has grass energy.

I'll list them anyway.

Terra Firma from Diamond and Pearl
Skull Charge from Mysterious Treasures
Lavaflow from Secret Wonders
Endless Night from Great Encounters
Forest Force from Majestic Dawn
Metal Surge from Legends Awakened
Raging Sea from Stormfront
Flourish from Platinum
Cutting Edge from Rising Rivals
Ignition from Supreme Victors
Flamemaster from Arceus
Growth Clash from Heartgold Soulsilver
Steel Sentinel from HS Unleashed
Daybreak from HS Undaunted
Verdant Frost from HS Triumphant
Recon from Call of Legends
Green Tornado from Black and White

That's 17 straight sets where one of the theme decks has Grass energy, which was kind of stupid. I was like "Thank goodness", when I saw that Toxic Tricks was Fire Psychic, and Power Play was Water Fighting.

Noble Victories then had Grass again in the Fast Daze theme deck.

2012 was a Grass free year for theme decks. I wouldn't say the same for Water though, which continues into the Plasma sets, and also one of 3 Kalos starter sets, which all seem to have Water in them. Grass makes a full fledged comeback in theme decks for all 4 sets released in the year, and that includes the kalos starter sets. Oddly enough, all 3 Plasma sets had one Grass Psychic theme deck. The type combination for Plasma Storm and Plasma Blast theme decks are exactly the same.

Well they could have used pokemon outside the Plasma Blast set. Heck, other than the promo, every single pokemon was from the Mind Wipe theme deck, which seems kind of lazy don't you think? It would be nice if this product didn't resemble the Mind Wipe theme deck in any way.

Just a FYI, was at Target today and they had the Red Genesect box in stock, around 8 on the shelf near checkouts.

I picked up two at Walmart and got a Genesect EX out of one of the booster packs. And the awesome trainers too.

BTW when looking at that Target I did not see any of the new promo pack things.

Though at Walmart (who does not have any of this set at the nearest one) they had 4 decks in those plastic box things.
For some odd reason one had 2 decks of Explosive Edge & the other Voltage Vortexx.
The cost was like $30 though.

BTW why no code card for at least the promo Genesect?

If you're talking about the PLB promo blisters with DEX Blaziken and Krookodile, Targets near me have them. Maybe yours hasn't put them out yet, or sold out somehow. If you mean the ones with Ampharos, Lucario, Genesect and Ninetales those aren't coming to the states it seems for some reason.

Hold on, since when we're there Plasma Blast Ampharos and Ninetales Promo Blisters? I'm sure you mean Plasma Freeze. Yeah the triple blisters seem to be EU only so you've got to get it shipped in if you live in the US. If you have trouble buying from local retailers just order online.

The Promo Genesect from the Triple Pack seems to be more playable compared to this one. Discard 2 energy for 100 damage? Wouldn't be so bad if one was colourless, but still.

Extra (11/10/2013):
Just opened my Red Genesect box today and I was surprised to see that the Red Genesect Cards were holos. I thought they would be reverse as all of the advertisements and the box state that the deck is 60 card foil. I guess foil could mean both reverse and normal. Nice cards though I am annoyed with the large number of Golett and Solosis. I have a ton of those normal anyway why couldn't we just get 2 like with Porygon? Still, a row of Golett reverse holos looks cool in a binder. The deckbox is just a normal cardboard box like we get with the other theme decks. However it is the coolest looking cardboard box and it even has an awesome Red Genesect image on the back. The booster packs were good too for me. Got a Braviary RH and a Garbodor holo from PS and an Ace Spec G-Booster from PB. Would have preferred a RH Drifblim or RH Sigilyph instead but you can't really complain pulling an ultra-rare from just 2 packs. All in all a good product. They should wait until a lot of great XY trainers have been released before doing the same for X and Y or the market will be saturated with these good cards. Also the RH Junipers are the older ones not from PB btw.
