Regionals FAQ

okay so its normal to have 14 players with x-1 records going into the topcut? gmab that doesn't even happen in yugioh
No, it is not. But you are not the only one who has this problem. At the Benelux Cup we had Top 8 on 100+ masters, that's pretty much the same.

There needs to be an exception for these elimination cuts for California. 230 Masters and only a 7 round, T16 tournament at states? We had nearly twice the required 25% cut (128) for a Top 32 and we get a round cut and 7% of our players cutting? A joke would be an understatement to describe this.

I like the byes for States and Regionals winners (T2 Reg.), should make for an interesting Nats. Hopefully there aren't issues like there were in 2004 when they gave byes at Nats. Also makes me wonder if Nats is going to be more rounds. Would there really be a two-round bye for an 8-round swiss? 2-0 start with byes and then you have to win only 4/6 real games to make the cut? Jeez, it's not anywhere close to that easy at California States.

as an angry, frequently-bubbled-out-of-top-cut californian master myself, i find i have to agree with this entire post.

the problem could obviously be solved by starting another hour later and inventing a new meal between lunch and dinner to take a break for.

Canada has regionals!!!
Great!
Hope to see some regionals soon in Mexico too =D

We have forever lol... this will certainly make them interesting. 1st and second round perfect byes are sick in canada. win 3 games to auto make it in lol

I have to agree 100% with the comments on California, 5-2 (should have been 6-1, oh well (found out that one of the opponents I lost to actually cheated, but did not figure it out until after the tournament was over). I missed top cut by about 20 places.

Oh well, I hope regional will have better time management,

Also what happens if a 50 year old (or even 28 year old) master wins the scholarship and wants to use it himself (like for grad school)? According to the rules too bad... now that is a problem.

I agree. Sleeping 2 additional hours would be so awesome.

Oh well.

You'd likely still have to be there for deck registration time, so you don't really get to sleep in any more...
It'll be a good chance to go out and get some breakfast though!

Non-U.S. residents are not eligible to collect a Travel Award to the U.S. National Championships, as the U.S. Nationals are open to U.S. residents only. Non-Canadian residents are not eligible to collect a Travel Award to the Canadian National Championships, as the Canadian Nationals are open to Canadian residents only. If a non-resident wins a Regional Championship, the Travel Award will pass down to the next eligible resident. All other prizes will be awarded to the actual winner of the event.
Is the "all other prizes" intended to include the bye, or not? It sounds like the bye is only good in the country in which it was won, but I'd like to be sure.

Yeah, that was what I meant with 'more sleep'.

You go to the registration just 5 minutes after you got up, register and walk away, having shower, breakfast, whatever.

Why am I playing in Germany, why.

Just asking, can you opt not to take those byes if you wanna work on your premier rating or something like that?

They have 10 years to use or have someone they transferred to use. Read the whole Scholarship thing and it says that.

 About CA States: I am so glad I don't have to go to another Karl event this year. WOO for Nor Cal regionals where our PTO listens when we say numbers will be high. Hopefully we will start on time but at if we don't it at least won't be 3 hours later. That States torny was so dumb I think this time I am going to report everything that happened like the stupid dinner break after we already had a lunch break. Or the 7 rounds instead of 8. Oh and please don't try to defend any of what happened I have heard counter arguments they seem lame to me. I hope someone else will take states next year in CA. Any PTOs in CA game?

They need to do something about the 230 players we get compared to the other states 100. Can we have a higher cut or something please?

Only thing good about CA States was all high ranked players meant lots of points.

because it's easier there?

playing in a regionals here will have more people than your nationals, so id rather win german nats than an american regionals.

Germany's nationals had the second highest attendance of all POP administered nationals last year. At 351 players it comfortably beat out most of last year's USA regionals too.

If I were German I'd rather win German nationals than a USA regional too. But only because the first place prize of a trip to Hawaii is better.
