I am very confused as to what prder I should follow these games, as I am really looking forward to playing out through every game but I need to know which one to purchase first. I'm sure there must be someone out there who can help me out.

I'd be purchasing the GameCube games btw.

Well, I've only ever played RE4, and it's plot is pretty separate from the other games. I would HIGHLY recommend it. It's supposed to be a lot better then the other games anyway.

I am not sure where Code:Veronica fits in (Never played that one), but 0-2 are canon and 4 takes place several years after 2, but is still canon.

I'm pretty sure RE4 is the only one with a separate storyline.

Playing RE4, RE5, and Darkside Chronicles - you will see how it all ties into the storyline.

RE0, RE1, RE2, RE:Nemesis, and RE:Code Veronica are all immediately after each other.
Playing Umbrella Chronicles will tie any loose ends to these games.

RE4 and RE5 take place after the events end in RE:Code Veronica, but are still part of the main storyline.
Playing Darkside Chonicales will show the missing bits you miss between the games concerning the plot of these two.

It is all the same story, just RE4 picks up later. Like How Star Wars:A New Hope picks up after Star wars: Revenge of the sith.

Play in this order.

1. RE1 for GC
2. RE0
3. RE2
4. RE3
5. RE: Code Veronica X

Then STOP! The other games in the series are not canon.

ultimatedra - thanks that is just exactly the info I wanted :). Also are these related at all tot he movies as in not only the characters but the storyline? or are they independent of each other?

Jaymin - What do you mean the games are not canon? And why in particular RE1 before RE0?

RE4 and RE5 are so different from the other games I don't consider them a part of RE's main story. They both have over the shoulder cameras (like Gears of War), both have thin plots, they have a shop system where you can buy weapons and upgrades, Leon kennedy looks like a girl, Wesker looks like Neo, and there are NO zombies!

I say play RE1 first because RE0 was released 5 years after RE1 and it helps fill in the gaps for the fans. So it doesn't matter if you play it before or after RE1. Its also better to play the first game to come out in the series. That will help you decide if you wanna continue the series.

I would say only buy RE0 and RE1 for the GameCube for now. RE2 and RE3 are really hard to find and expensive.

The movies are very loosely based on the games in the beginning, but the movie drastically changes course as more came out. In the games, you take the role of a certain person. Rebbecca in 0, Chris and Jill in 1, Leon and Claire in 2, etc.

In the movies, you saw the super-woman Alice encounter some of these people - but not always in the setting as the video games. I believe the movies were based on "What If umbrella made a super human" (meaning Alice) and that is why it drastically goes away from the main story in the video game.

The only problem is, I'm pretty sure the company that makes them DOES consider them canon, so it would be a disservice to not play them.

Anyways, regarding the live action movies, they themselves don't offer anything really related to the series, ultimatedra pretty much summed them up. They're easily passible B grade movies though, I've always found them fairly entertaining and how they try and weave some of the main RE characters into it at times.
