I just recently started getting back into the game, I used to play quite a bit back in the days of neo, but besides playing unlimited with my friends, I would like to try modified.

I thought up this deck because I wouldn't have to get many supporters, I have like 2 atm, and the X is coming out in a tin, so the deck should be easy to make, so far I have the energies from the old sets, and 1 rare candy, a good start.

    pokemon 14
    3-2-3-1 Rhyperior
    2-2 claydol
    1 azelf LA

    trainers 26
    rare candy 4
    bebe's search 4
    night maintenence 4
    premier ball 4
    felicity's 4
    quick ball 4
    super scoop up 2

    energy 20
    fighting 20
will sub out 4 fighting for 4 call if I can get my hands on some

From what I've seen of other people's modified decks, the supporters can drain the pokemon from them pretty quickly, leaving nothing but delicious energy

I guess the strategy here is to get a rhyperior X up and going as soon as possible and attack for 0, and with all those kingdra countering rogue decks that will be running around, I think it'll fare okay, also, it can take a hit from Kingdra and KO back.

warp point kills this though, how do I deal with that?
also, getting X prized would hurt, how do I fix that?

really, it operates on the principle of a stronger, slower kricketune, I think.

    2HKO'd by kingdra, OHKOs back
    insane damage potential for 0
a little luck based, but shouldn't be once supporters have done their work
    170 hp
    it's rhyperior
    combats growing electric metagame

    bad starts

losing a rhyperior X and not being able to get another one out because I've discarded my rhyperiors, which is why I added quick ball to get everything into my hand asap, and NM to combo with it, I'm still wary of that though, since I can't test it.

not being able to use bebe's because I don't have a pokemon in my hand

    slow, a stage 2 lvl X is essentially a stage 3

    possibly discards valuable cards

having a candied X devolve after you've discarded all of your rhydon with hard crush hurts

warp point hurts, rhyperior has an awful retreat, and I only have one X

    In closing...

could someone give me a hand with this, I really don't know much of how newer decks work.

also, where is the best place to get newer trainers and supporters?

i thing the deck will not work becouse
    you have not claydol in
    no draw supporter

in my deck to this world

    i play 2-2 claydol
    and 4 steven's
    and 2 oak's visit

and i go in top 32

ya well there is no steven's in the new format genius, bravo. And you probably go in top 32 out of 33 people

well, to make the deck work you will have to use claydol GE (2-2 line would be good). Instead of Stantler use Absol SW, and find space for call energy.

that's sounds good, I managed to pull two claydol in some GE packs I got am couple months ago,

seeing as my cards consist of those I've gotten in prerelease packs and theme decks starting in GE,

I'd rather find something else besides absol to put in the deck as a starter, cause it's rare and I'm not loaded per se, any ideas?

also, the focus is on getting set up asap, not disrupting the opponent

call energy, I don't know about, I don't want to remove any other energy, and it's not searchable, so it's unreliable I think, maybe roseanne's, what do I take out?

what should I take out for claydol?

    Use this line

    3-2-3-1 o 3-2-2-2 Ripherior lv. X (you choise)
    3-2-3 Kingdra
    2-2 claydol

    3 roseanne
    4 bebe search
    4 rare candy
    2 premium ball
    2 cinthya feeling
    2 night maintence
    2 warp point

    20 :water: energy

    Discard energy w/ ripherior lv. X, and Upstream w/ Kingdra ^^ o attack w/ kindra =)

    captainrhubarb New Member

    y'know, that could work

but I don't want to use Kingdra like everyone is doing, that's unoriginal, but a great combo.

I might edit kingdra in if I can get a few and see how a rhyperior deck does

    you think only 2 NM?

and how can I get things out the fastest? that's what I'm looking for,
what's a good non absol, non furret starter?

you simply gave me a completely new deck

Ypu utilize 1 ripherior lv. X use a Azfel (LA) tech poke-power find ripherior lv. X in prizes, use 2 call, no stanler, use phione for evolution fast, no wager, use warp point in case of retired ... add 2 roseanne

    2 night maintence o 1 IDK ...
Kingdra Upstream shuffle energy :water: in my deck ... and ripherior fast damage

lestat, you realize that that means your rhyperior sits out there to discard cards, dealing Zero damage? Sorry, that list would get stomped. Your Kingdras a One Hit Wonder, and thats AFTER sacrificing the Rhyperior for next to nothing.

Rhyperior kinda needs Claydol, to let you dump energy back. I would also reccomend trying to pick up 4 Dialga from IDIDS, the next set comming out. It lets you put 3 energy from your discard on top of your deck when you put Dialga in play.

okay, but I still really need a starter, phione doesn't really cut it for me, at least stantler can attack...

and I should cut down on my NM then?

actually, rhyperior does damage for every ENERGY card, not just fighting energy, it still does damage,

but I still kinda don't want to use kingdra like everyone else

any starter suggestions, are my trainers okay?

This deck will get alot better with the release of IFDS but for now...

    -3 Stantler
    -1 Rhyhorn
    -1 Rhydon
    -2 Night Maintenence
    -1 Premier Ball
    -4 Super Scoop Up
    -4 Quick Ball
    -4 Fighting Energy

    +2-2 Claydol GE
    +2-1-2-2 Porygon Z/Lv.X
    +4 PokeRadar (LA)
+1 Azelf LA, incase your Rhyperior Lv.X ends up in your prize cards
    +4 Call Energy

and once IFDS comes out you should find room for...

    4 Dialga IFDS

A very good concept overall, the list just needed a few adjustments. As for a starter, i don't think you need one, however, if you truly want to find the room (which you may want to do, but i don't know what else to take out) you might want to make room for TM TS-1 (Evoluter)

so a 3-2-3-1 line for Rhyperior?

I can give that a shot,

but, pokeradar doesn't seem like it'll be useful here, there aren't enough pokes...

    Azelf, okay

    Claydol, that makes sense

call nrg, if I can get my hands on some I'll add it,

A porygon line would speed this up I think, but then I would need WP to get the X out safely, then again... I suppose if I can find a reasonable Z lvl X I'll give it a shot, but that'll cost a pretty penny.

and you don't think I'll need a starter, I'll take that advice, taking out stantler means I'll bet more mulligans though... and I'll see if I can get my hands on an evoluter or 4, that should be pretty reasonably priced

nobody here has mentioned porgyon-z lv x
it's power lets you put 2 cards on top of your deck
if you choose energy, then it does 100 damage every time plus whatever other energy you happen to come across
plus it is a good starter, if you can get it out early enough.
  13. captainrhubarb

    captainrhubarb New Member

true, but what would I take out, and if I play porygon z, I need to stick some warp points in,

also, with all of the supporters and trainers sucking pokemon out of the deck, would I even need to bother?

still, I'm a little leery of having no starter, should I be?
  14. Politoed666

    Politoed666 New Member

Yes, you should. Run Phione. In addition, Porygon-Z is a bad idea because trying to get two Lv.Xs out will slow the deck down considerably. What you want for Rhyperior is to burn through your deck as fast as possible so you come close to decking out. Here's your trainer line:

    4x Poké Radar
    4x Quick Ball
    4x Felicity's Drawing
    4x Night Maintenance
    1x Super Scoop Up
    4x Bebe's Search
    3x Roseanne's Research
    2x Premier Ball

You want to go fast with this deck. Ideally, you want to root everything but energies out of your deck as quickly as possible, while using up cards in your hand to draw more for Claydol. Get the idea?

I'll see if I can get my hands on a pokeradar or 4, thanks

what do you recommend as a starter? I've tried phione and I don't really like it, and I need something to set up quick

on a side note, do you think this deck could be successful?

and yeah, fast was what I wanted here,

    like a stronger quickitune,

I'll use phione if I can get some, but they're expensive, so, if I run 4 call NRG, would I still need that starter?

and how do I counter a warp point?

    thanks, editing now

edit: did you forget rare candy?
  16. Politoed666

    Politoed666 New Member

Ugh. I suppose I did forget Warp Points and Candys. Run 2 of the former and 4 of the latter. As for Phione, what's not to like?
  17. captainrhubarb

    captainrhubarb New Member

well, what can I take out, I already have barely enough NRG

I think either porygon z or kingdra would work well with rhyperior
and dialga from the next pack
  19. captainrhubarb

    captainrhubarb New Member

really? what would I take out for them, and that would defeat Kingdra's purpose and make it slower

Stark Mountain + Regirock = set up Rhryperior's 2nd attack to refill the deck. (I'd go 1 Regirock and 3 Stark Mountain).

Also, in my opinion, you don't need, in any way, another S2 to work with Rhyperior. That makes set up more stranuous, deck space more compact, and the strategy more questionable. Straight Rhy is the way to go.
