Pokémon TCG: Sword and Shield—Brilliant Stars

Rotation announced!

I do agree that a lot of things need to go both wrong for you and right for your opponent, but I think they happen often enough (and are frustrating enough) that something should be done about it.

Regardless, since nothing is going to happen about it (at least not anytime soon), best to just keep playing. Donks are certainly not gonna stop me from enjoying this game.

The thing about donks is that you need to go 2nd,

Happens 50% of the time. Or for people like me, 90%.

start only one Pokemon (this puts most decks low enough already of a probability not to get donked in a given game),

Happens often enough as I see it, considering how the average is only around 10 basics.

and you need to be playing against a deck with donk capability.

Everything not evolution then.
Pass that your opponent still needs to hit all the cards for the donk.
This is the only issue.

That depends entirely on the decks you play. One omission in your list of decks is Klinklang (unless I misunderstood your list). I personally play it and out of 30 or so games (between 2 BRs, Nationals, and a few rounds at league) I've been donked twice. This is a significantly greater ratio than what your testing demonstrated.

Donks are normally only a problem for people who experience them (I missed Top Cut at Nationals because of one, hence I think they're a problem ).

But Andrew played Blastoise for 7 tournaments and Blastoise is very similar to Klinklang. They both have four 60 HP basics and play around 10 basics total. And he said that using Blastoise he wasn't donked once. That's probably 35-40 games with the deck. He probably went second at least 15-20 games too.

And 2 games out of 30+ isn't that many honestly. The probability of starting lone Klink/Squirtle is probably around 30-40 percent, and then you go second 50 percent of the time. That's like 15-20% of the time that you go second with a 60 HP basic. Probably about half of that time your opponent will have the opportunity to donk you, so 2/30 or 1/15 is actually a little favorable to you.
