On the other hand, the 25 card limit might be there so you can trade up or down (4 Uncommons for a rare etc) . . .

Who knows what the devious mind of RA has in store for us?

Uhhh... I think I am going to send you my submission now...

Yeah, I'm worried this will not go so well.

Again, that 14 limit is KILLIN me, RA! Give me a few more cards, and I break this newbie deck!

FINALLY submitted. Had the deck and write-up done about an hour and a half ago. Spent the rest of that time getting it under 5000 and still getting my point across. Sheesh...

...OK, back to doing teacherly stuff again...

~Cardz.

Although reading and comprehending the rules is part of any contest, in the future it'd be a good idea to keep them from being so over-elaborate. For example, there are the following sheets of cards competitors have to keep track of this round:

-Booster pack contents
-Owned binder
-Zero's binder
-The deck

And then the following restrictions:

-14 card switch max
-25 card trade max
-MD-on trades only
-The entire trade system

(And that's not even accounting for natural restrictions outside of the contest, such as the 5,000 char. limit and exact 60 cards.)

While none of these by themselves are complicated at all, when combined, it's all an amazing amount to keep track of. I even nearly got tripped up by the MD-on thing.

Maybe in the future, separate elements can be introduced as entire rounds in and of themselves? For example, last round when we had both deck list "and" Birthday advice, you could have separated it into two separate rounds. Likewise, this round could have been split into two: one with trades, and one with deckbuilding. Or just narrow the scope. I felt like the first round had a very nice, simple component to it, and that it could have effectively been the whole contest if you wanted it to be.

Just speaking from personal experience, R_A - I got heat all the time for introducing EXPANDED components (i.e., unlimited, 8 card maximums) in addition to restrictions (1 basic only decks).

But yeah, consider what I said. (Although let's hope you never do what I did and introduced a round where you're supposed to lose. That didn't go too well for my competitors back then.)

Actually, Kettelz, this is almost exactly what building for a newbie feels like. Information management in the face of a simply insane amount of information. Actually, this scenario has even FEWER variables than some situations I've found myself in. Ever build a deck for a complete newbie at an 80 person City with only two other Judges to keep things sane and at least 14 players all trying to rip the kid at the same time? Once a year occurrence around here, minimum.

This feels exactly like building a deck for a four week newbie. Three parts exasperation to one part intelligence and four parts annoyance. In short, it's perfect.

Iunno, I wasn't tripped up at all by the list. I looked through them for some things that I thought would work, did a search among the various lists of cards for things that would go along with it, and went with that.

I think it's funny you're making this argument when you've complained about the space limitation at least twice!

This does a great job of simulating the experience, and not saying that all of the elements should go away - I'm just saying that they could be introduced at a slightly slower pace, just as they are in real life.

Space limitations are one thing. Complexity is another. I'm getting burned by the space limitations b/c I always seem to find at least 20 cards I *want* to put in, but I'm only *allowed* to put in 14. Last round it burned me b/c of the Arceus thing. This round, it's more Starters and Trainers that I was getting annoyed with...

Here's to hoping you see this soon: About the 25 incoming trade cards RA, since only 14 can make the deck, do you want us to trade for MORE, and get 25 cards, for future round purposes? Do you want us to make trades that build his collection even if they do not go into the deck? If so do you want a trade list for ALL trades, or just ones that go into the deck?

I say this because if you can trade for 25 cards and then next round tell us we can use cards from the binder, I'm sure there will be those who say that our kid now owns Lux X because they traded for it last round, even if it is not in the deck and you did not ask for info on cards we just "traded for." Ya feel me? Might make upcoming rounds complicated =/

Havn't been around at all this week. lol should be able to finish by tonight.

I only have 58 cards, and I completely followed the rules... Well this oughta mess me up a bit,

Haha, never mind. My deck sucks, however because I don't have tme to think this through.

Space limitation is always a matter of complexity, Bullados. Wouldn't decklists be easier to both check and make if you could play more than 60 cards?

In addition to the "there's a lot of stuff to read/check for wahwahwah" point of mine, having a million different things to read for just decreases the fun factor of the contest, which is precisely what we as competitors are struggling to preserve for Jonathan Doe. It doesn't eliminate it (I'm still competing because I think this is a VERY fun exercise that will improve both my mentoring skills and personal playing skills), but it could perhaps be IMPROVED without so many cumbersome elements.

EDIT: Wow, you know this is a good contest when it keeps making you think of things to say!

Also re round 3: I like how the task itself this time around was actually pretty simple. Creativity was the only very hard thing to measure in a contest where your deck "rolls over" from the last round, but my previou

The trade system was also pretty nifty. Kid Zero didn't have a _ton_ of amazing cards for the deck, but it's enough to make it way better!

Lucky for me, Kid Zero had cards that I was looking for last round. It really helped me out!
