This years nationals rolled round with me and my brothers having tested not nearly as much as in previous years. 2 Days prior i had no confidence in doing as well and only had a few choices in decks, the only 2 I had played previously being Metanite and Destiny. I test Destiny, and build Shiftry ex for my friend David who practically lives at my house the week before the event.

I order a Jolteon* online, which doesn't arrive on Friday as planned so I scrap Absolutions. I had talked to Eric C and his lil bro Orion (thanks guys), who gave me a really solid fix on my Absol list, I looked at the deck more closely but found it lost to a quick Shiftry ex and a Houndoom/Ray ex d/Lick d deck i knew would show up.

We promise eachother we'll sleep by like 10-11 but thats never the case the night before, Irwin-Malek and Nitish come over to test, but we only play a few games and I went undefeated with Destiny. We played Pro-Evo most of the day, and write out our decklists at 1:30 in the morning, I fill out Destiny and Absolutions.

I decide on running Tropius d to secure Flariados as a win, and its really very good as a mentorable heal anyways. Definitely one of my favoured cards of the current format.

My Team plays:

Yacine Sekkoum - Ttar ex/Altaria ex d
Fares Sekkoum - Flariados
David Carter - Shiftry ex CG
Sami Sekkoum - Undecided!!!

So we wake up and im nervous, right when we are set to go, My dad and Yacine lose their Glasses so we could be late. John (Our TO who we follow up to the venue) waits for us graciously and we EVENTUALLY get going. We stop at a service station where I collect a Jolteon* from John, I have my mind set on playing Absol now.

We get there, hand in lists and look at the Animals (Safari Park), I help Irwin and Nitish finish off their decks and we get started. Not a long delay this year, probably cause Dave S was there :p

Game 1 vs Paul Willis - Latias d ex/Blaziken 0-0

Pauls a really nice guy and we chat before the match. I start with Eevee and CFF, he starts up with Torchic and misses the Singe flip, irrelevant as I evolve anyway and go to town. T2 Ko on the chic.

Game 2 vs Yacine Sekkoum - Ttar ex/Altaria ex d 1-0

A fix! It must be! Anyways we get started and he starts with Mantine to my Jirachi ex CG. I rinse through his slow start, I think he gets a Ttar out but by that time I have control and take the game.

Game 3 vs Ryan Tur Banette ex . 2-0

Kempley watches over this game to see how it plays out, Banette is awful vs Absol and he couldnt do much vs my absol start.
Unlucky Ryan

Game 4 vs Ben Ward - Flariados 3-0

Bens played this all year and plays it well. We both get good starts and I can KO Spinarak T2 if my Jolteon* isnt prized. He poisons me with Ariados and I mentor for Tropius and a Holons Voltorb as im scared of Er2s. He goes to flip 3/3 for Er2 and for pretty much anything else this game, He misses one heads. Anyways, He Vaps my Tropius but I draw a Trans or Lapras to reclaim it. The game gets close but i dont make any mistakes and take it in sudden death.

Game 5 vs UGH im terrible with names - Gardevoir ex d/Altaria ex d 4-0

This guy is really cool and im ****** I dont know his name :( It was a good game but Tropius really helped me out here, Imprison counters are removed and he had a pretty horrid start. Unlucky pal.

Game 6 vs Andy Stone - Latios ex d/Latias ex d/Huge exs. 5-0

We always play at the latter stage of a tournament, he's one of the cooler people in pokemon. So far I haven't lost a game to Andy, but this matchup isn't as favourable for me as he believes. He has the ability to KO everything in my deck for 3 and my only option is to abuse Jirachi ex and Vaporeon ex. I do so and take the game. Well played pal.

6-0

We set up for top 8 and it looks like this:

1st Sami Sekkoum - Absolutions
2nd Andy Stone - Latios ex d/Latias ex d
3rd Ryan Tur - Banette ex
4th Bruce Kelf - Flygon ex d/Flygon/Fearow d
5th Ren - Mewtric/Ray ex d
6th Daryl Wilson - Banette ex
7th Cool Guy - Gardevoir ex d
8th James S - Ttar ex d/Altaria ex d

We do deck checks and I filled out a 59 card list, Ilegal list. It all gets fixed thanks to fair judging and we continue.

Top 8 vs James S - Ttar ex d/Altaria ex d

Game 1: This game was good for me, Tropius was the perfect play for the tournament and James was a really cool guy. I played pretty well abusing Mew to place counters and absoling to take multiple prizes.

Game 2: He gets a bad start and doesnt get much, Vaporeon ex helps get rid of any chance he had. Very well played James :)

Top 4 vs Ren - Mewtric/Ray ex d

Game 1: I was really worried about this deck as locking stones and stuff could be troublesome. So we play it out, and I make sure Im able to take advantage of my Ray ex. He misses Er2 flips but I take the game inevitably.

Game 2: He starts off really strong and I make sure we can exchange prizes with me coming out on top. It comes down to a scoop up flip on my Jolt* for an extra absolable 10 damage which I hit. Very well played pal, you were gracious in defeat and a very good player.

Top 2 vs Andy Stone - Latios ex d/Latias ex d/Huge exs/Mewtwo d.

Game 1: The final I expected, i would have preferred to be playing Destiny vs him but what can you do. He starts up really well, but uses to many resources to take a 4 prize lead. I Vaporeon ex and Jirachi ex him. He gets out a Latias ex d to take the final 2 and i retreat for Lickitung d. I lick his Latias untill he is forced to make a move losing all energy in which case I either resumed Jirachi ex'ing or took 2 prizes.

Game 2: He gets literally nothing out. No energy for 6-7 turns and cant do a thing, by the time he gets something out i have 2-3 attackers ready for his Exs. Unlucky pal, your a really great player.

12-0

So I remain Champion. It was hard, but ill be putting in alot more practice for worlds. I made errors which weren't costly but errors none the less. My little brother Fares also won the -10 and Yacine missed the cut on 4-2.

So this year my tournament record is something like 37-2? Im really happy with how ive played all year and think I fully deserved what I've achieved.

Props:
Eric Craig, you always come through pal.
Orion Craig
John Hawkings
Everyones Support
All the UK players - mainly Andy, Kempley Irwin and Nitish and Cole etc
David Carter
My girlfriend Amy for getting me some stuff for being a slip runner :)
Great Prizes.
Dave Shwimmer (Cause everyone else is giving him props :p)
Ian Fotheringham - A really good head judge.

Slops:
Cheatsacs
Terrible food
Only one place for the winner, Andy should be going too. :*(
Almost losing my deck!

I cant really remember much else for slops and props. Will add more later.

So I take it your game against me(game 5) was swallowed up in the great vortex of space and time, and replaced. ;-)

And my surname has one R.

congrats on winning, Sami & hope to see ya in hawaii.
Same goes to your two bros =D

Well done, you really did play well sami. Show Worlds what you and the UK are made off. Good luck at worlds and maybe a hatrick next year?!

GJ, congrats on winning in one of the best metagames in Europe, as far as I can tell. GL at Worlds, do Europe proud =)

Well played dude, glad that deck I built you worked. (But you left me off your team) =(

I've demoted you from t-shirt seller to guy that goes around on his hands and knees picking up empty packets of crisps =P
