Pokémon TCG: Sword and Shield—Brilliant Stars

Saturday Live from U.S. Nationals!

We really are not running a T64, just two different T32 tournaments

I know,

Some sour grapes of the past should be sweet wine by now, I think.

For everyone not really knowing what is going on, about those flights.

Masters have 532 players, those are split into 2 equal flights (groups) --> 2 x 266 players
Each flight of 266 will play 9 rounds of swiss (single game).
(It doesn't matter if people drop, those flights/groups will remain untill those 9 rounds are completed)
After these 9 rounds, EACH flight will have it's own T32 match (best out of 3).
The 16 winners of EACH flight's T32 will enter the final T32 tomorrow.

For Juniors and Seniors there are no flights, they have to play 8 rounds of Swiss single game and T32 finishers will play tomorrow.

Some percentages/details for those who are interested.

A. T32 out of 266 players means 12% will get into it. (makes a chances to play the final T32 on sunday)
B. T32 out of 532 players means only 6% would made it. (this way it's set and done after 9 or 10 Swiss rounds)

A. All 7-2 records will make it into the "flight's T32", which can lead to a seat into the "final T32".
B. Most 7-2's will not make it into the "final T32"

What is the big difference?
If you use the "standard" 1 group/flight way, most players going X - 2 are not going to battle for the final T32.
Normally a 1 group (532 players) tournament should have 10 rounds and T64.
This would result into running a total of 16 rounds (10 swiss/6 single elemination)
It was never the intention (from my understanding) to run a T64, so the flight option with the additional "flight T32" creates a "sort of T64"
The 2 flights option results into a 15 rounds tournament (9 swiss/ 6 single elemination).

I hope I explained it clear and correct.

btw the selection for the flights is random and done by the computer (TOM) as far as I know.
And for those who are thinking about complaining afterwards, remember this:
Normally only T16 of each flight should continue into the final T32 on Sunday.
By adding that extra "flight T32", you have the best options to win the tournament.
All # 17-32 after swiss in each flight normally would NOT enter the final T32, by playing this additional "flight T32" you are given a chance.

Well it is an unusual round structure but it is effectively 10 rounds with 566 players. The unusual structure means that not all 8-2s make it because some may be 8-1 before the match play in the 10th round.

Yes but those 8-2's already played the "finals", this also happens when people go undefeated in swiss and loose their first round in Single Elemination.
Actually they went 8-1 and lost in SE.

Indeed which makes is a lot like a T64. Curious. Very Curious.

Back to back posts merged. The following information has been added:

So GLB when is todays tournament projected to finish today, tommorrow?

Both Juniors (206 players) and Seniors (207 players), running 8 rounds, with a T-32 cut, will see all 6-2players make it to Sunday. Great job!

We will go till we have the Top32 for each age group today. Sunday will start Finals for Top 32 till we are done, sometime around 3 or 4. Todays matches could go till 10-ish or later for the Masters. Just depends on what happens with the tournament in time extentions and other issues.

is there a way that at the end of day1 1 you could post the names of people who made it to day 2? or possibly post the names of the t32 from each flight?

I will have to check with PUI if they will let me post that information. Part of it will also depend on what time the tournament ends. I do need to get some sleep tonight :tongue:

i know its a bit late for this but good luck to 3 local players from so cal, Glenn Velaquez Leo Orta and Joel Casillas. Shoutout to Danny M also ;]. Oh and Johnny K.

Round 4 just ended, and we are waiting on a couple of matches in the MAs before we can move onto Round 5. Standings for Jr & Sr going up right now.
