Seniors getting Worlds CP

Although I'm sure that the guys from TPCi have put a ton of thought into this, my biggest worry is that the cutoff will be unreasonable. If you base it off of 2011-12's numbers, there's a good chance that a lot of people won't hit that mark because of no top cut at Battle Roads (and the possibility of 0-1 points instead of 2). Honestly I would fear the most for the younger divisions, who might have to travel a ridiculous amount to have an opportunity at an invite. Again, I'm sure they have taken this into consideration, but there is a risk involved with setting a point benchmark as opposed to taking the Top X spots.
Well they wouldn't have to announce the MAGIC NUMBER right away. If they wait until the end of January (after all Cities and 2 Regionals are done) they can see how the CPs are trending, and come up with reasonable cutoffs for each division.

Thats a point of view I haven't thought of...if BR had no CPs what would you consider a reasonable number? What if they had CPs?

I hope they wouldn't do that. A lot of people will be upset if they don't announce the cutoff before Battle Roads, let alone with half of the season done. Players need to have an idea of how many events they need to attend to earn an invite. As much as we love Pokémon, not everyone has the time to go to tournaments every weekend. Please give us an idea of what our goal will be before we have to start attending tournaments, not after.

40th place CPs after different tournament series from last season:

Season start: 0
After Fall Battle Roads: 4
After Fall Regionals: 7
After Cities: 29
After States 39
After Spring Regionals: 42
After Spring Battle Roads: 46
After Nationals: 49

I'm not completely sure about the "after cities" CP amount because the rankings kept on updating over the course of January/February as the best finish limit was actually implemented. I think that the 29 number is correct because I took the screenshot right before States, but please correct me if you know for sure that another number is correct.

Therefore, if BRs had no CPs and everything else stays the same, I would consider 40 CPs a reasonable amount. This takes away the 8 CPs that the theoretical 40th ranked player gained over the course of the Battle Roads cycles, and gives some extra buffer room to allow maybe 45-50 people from North America into Worlds. Letting in a couple more people prevents the issue we had this year, when there were 127 masters—exactly 1 less than needed for Top 32 without an override to TOM.

However, CP rewards and best finish limits are almost certainly going to change, so it's really hard to say at this point.

my best guess would be 40 CP with the removal of CP from Battle Road and a reduction in the value of Citys.

haha we almost agree completely. my only gripe is under the current format you can get 30 CPs from Citys alone. =\

As far as my area, it's kinda out of the way for just about any and all travelers (Minneapolis). And almost every League has a higher weekly attendance than the Premier Tournament attendance. So in that instance, removing the competitive aspect would help bringing in new players.

As far as the observed increase in attendance, those are based on interviews that the PTO did with the players both before and after the tournaments. I do not doubt what he said from those conversations.

I think even if P!P is still working on the details, many people would appreciate simply knowing: Do BRs have CPs or not? I imagine this much has been decided by now. BRs less than 9 days away...

got this idea from reading about play points and battle roads...
We could also do for every like 50 play points you get you earn like 5- 10 CP or something like that. or something like this....

30 play points= 1-5 CP?
40 play points= 6-10 CP?
50 play points= 11-20 CP?
60 play points= 21-30 CP?

What do you guys think about it being this way as an add on thing. It gives people a little chance to make it into the world championships. And depending on the CP's we can change this way as well..

Sorry but this solution will not be liked by most people. This would quite specifically reward players for simply going to more events (or even just leagues!) rather than players who are actually successful in tournaments. If you read the many threads over the last couple months with complaints about the 2011-2012 CP system, and really even earlier seasons, there is always a hint of 'the system seems to reward going to more events more than consistent winning play.' Your suggestion would do that ten times more obviously!

It would benefit me, and I still don't think that it is fair. You have places like California where getting 50 play! points is SIGNIFICANTLY harder than where I live in NJ. I can travel about 2 hours in every direction and hit up every event pretty much, you can't do that in Cali. While the system isn't going to be fully balanced, doing this, gives those in California and other spread out areas, an even bigger disadvantage. It's not a good idea, like at all, nor is it anything close to fair.
