Welcome to the only female top 16 report! If you were at the tournament you might have recognized me by me purple bandana or large amount of dragonite stuff. I got my invite VIA ratings... (33rd spot ftw). I played Luxape. A few days before the tournament, I was freaking out about my deck... It just refused to ever give me a good start, but due to the closeness of the tournament and the fact that the deck had given me a top 64 at nationals, I decided to stick with it. I made a total of 3 changes from my nationals list.
Here are a few notes about my list. I play NO claydol, NO call, NO ninetails, NO promo froggy. I do however play a 1-1 dialga, a 2-1 uxie, and the night before the tournament, I added a pachirisu.
Round 1 : Ryan P. from Denmark. (Flygon)
I start with a pretty average hand. It has a cyrus in it and I start with an infernape. He starts with a machop. I about have a heart attack when I see this, cause like any Sp player, machamp is the last thing you want to face. Fortunately for me, he's just playing a 1-0-1 line Early game, he burns alot of cards to play an uxie, which I powerspray. After this, he can't get set up and I just roll over him with split bomb to kill trapinches. I never lost to a flygon this year.... ever.
(1-0)
Round 2 : Jonathan B. (Mother Gar)
Hey! I played this guy at nats Bit fuzzy on the match, I remember him not drawing anything so Im not sure if thats because of powerspray or me killing his claydols... I get a jump on him. He can't recover.
(2-0)
Round 3 : Michael L. from Canada (Mirror)
Lol he plays claydol. I burn his last 2 energy gains with pachirisu
(3-0)
Round 4 : Hayato T. from Japan (Palkia lock)
I can't draw a supporter the entire game. I just kept drawing energies, and luxrays and infernapes of the non- X variety. I loose.
(3-1)
Round 5 : Lloyd W. (I think he was the guy who got second at US Nats) (Luxray/manectric/gallade)
I don't see a cyrus this game. I draw into plenty of Roseannes, but thats a bit useless with a full bench. He gets a faster start than me. I loose.
(3-2) This is when I freak out. I have to win 2 games back to back to make top 32
Round 6 : Aylam R. The US nats winner (Mother Gar)
I start with pachirisu. He starts with a gastly. He pitch darks, I call for family. He attaches an energy to gastly and pitch darks again. I attach to my benched ape and smash short for 10. He attaches an energy to his gastly as well as an unown G to burn cards for an uxie. Notice something wrong with this situation? He pitch darks again. By now, from playing a few cyrus's, my bench is in a pretty good position. I smash short again for 40. Bye bye gastly. He's pretty bare on his bench, but manages to get a Queen up. He takes a prize with it and gets a gengar on his bench. I 1-shot his queen with ape and crobats. I've played Aylam before and know he has a love for poltergiest, so I know to empty my hand of trainers. He poltergiests my ape X for 30, based off the 1 roseanne he sees in my hand. I play the roseanne, making the trainer count in my hand zero. not sure what I did next. I do however remember Aylam poltergiesting the next turn for 0. I also know I risked a few fainting spell flips, all of which he got heads on. I win.
(4-2) This was probably one of the more satisfying wins of the tournament.
Round 7 : Jonas E. yet another Denmarkian (yet another Mother Gar >.<)
about the same as my other 2 gengar matches, nothing really exciting.
(5-2) WEWT!!!!!!!! I'm in top cut!!!!!!!!!!!
top 32!
Arron S. (palkia lock) sorry if i get something wrong, my memory is fuzzy
game 1-I get a fast jump and powerspray his uxie. he never really recovers.
game 2 -I remember he draws into 3 powerspray and plays them all in 1 turn. I loose this game/
game 3 - bout the same as game 1...
This was a fun match to play Its always good if you can sit and laugh with your opponent
top 16!
Takuto I. from Japan, also the future world champ(Luxray with alllllllot of stuff)
game 1- I get a pretty good start, I have an infernape ready to go and my bench is nicely set up.... I see he plays mewtwo so instantly I put the basic dialga on my bench. Not far into the game I realize I prize my Infernape X and Uxie X. I get an azelf to use time walk and then he powersprays it. I have to rely entirely off of Luxray X in this game. Unfortunately he uses the promo toxicroak and my counters for it are prized. we have an even prize trade going on. I even have 2 prizes left at the end of this game, unfortunatly my Infernape X and Uxie X were those last 2. He takes game 1.
game 2- My start was better than his. He took forever to draw into a supporter, but by the time he did, I had im in a corner. Oh, also both Luxray X's I play were prized. I azelfed a turn he had 2 sp's out to get 1 of them. I take this game.
game 3- We have like15 minutes to play this game, but my entire sense of time is dead. Again, my prizes are terrible... this time its 2 cyrus's. This may not seem so bad, but it causes me not to get a 2nd powerspray in my hand compaired to an energy gain. He kills a luxray with a pachirisu. I come behind it with an uxie X, move an energy on to it with bronzong(who now has 40 on him) attach and kill the pachi with a crobat drop. He has a honchcrow with an energy on it as his active and a luxray with an energy on his bench as well as a crobat. Time is called on his turn, he poketurns his crobat, I stop flash bite with a lone powerspray, he retreats for luxray and bright looks. If i had only got that powerspray /sigh
Oh well, If anyone had told me I'd make top 16 a week earlier, I would have been shocked. Still, being 1 card and 1 top 8 match away from a trip to hawaii and a worlds invite is a bit depressing.
I'm coming for you next year masters division!!!!!!!!!!!
Pros: seeing all my buddies I get to see 2 times a year, luxape for being an awesome deck, my dad, the Craig bros for helping my with my deck, and the entire Memphis pokemon crew
Cons: bad prizes three games in a row
