Shaymin EX in Durant?

I saw on the ECC some guy placed with Shaymin EX/Durant. Sounds pretty decent to me. What you'd do is take out Black Belt and play Prism Energy. In doing that, you'd be able to take troublesome Pokemon off the field. Worth teching in?

Better not start with it, otherwise your opponent will be playing a 5 prize game, rather than a 6 prize game. Also, with no form of energy acceleration, its gonna be a target as soon as it hits the field. It could force your opponent to play more pokemon, but I dont know if its worth the risk.

Prism energy + energy switch can power up a shaymin in one turn to start the tank... But I agree that if you start with it you are in in for a painful game

I always tech in 1 Shaymin in my Durant now, it is very useful in certain situations, but I really wouldn't reccomend running more than 1 because of the possibility of starting with it, and it can just be deadweight sometimes.

Well i only seen shaymin ex do good once but the other times i catchered it up and i got two prizez. It really needs double energy attachment.

pliskin, whoever played down a Shaymin EX without attacking with it immediately may as well sell his cards. Because he doesn't even know how to play.

Your are not going to take 6 prizes with a Shayin EX, you are better off running Cobalion and Black belt. You loose Shaymin EX you loose two prizes and you wont be decking your opponet out that game. Even if you get the Suprise KO with it and get back to the bench, it will get Carchered up and KO's at some point in the game. The cost of playing Shaymin in Durrant way exceeds the benefit it may give.

I completely agree with everything you just said. I tried Durant with Cobalion, and it did work pretty well, it was just a tad bulky for my tastes. I can pretty much say that Shaymin would be horrible for Durant. It drops your 6 turn clock to even less.

Durant's major strength is in the consistency upon which it can initiate the mill. Seems that any Pokemon other than Durant + Rotom compromises that maximum consistency.

If you want max consistency go with straight Duran and Rotom. If you want max flexibility tech in Cobalion. If you want to lose teching in Shaymin EX looks like the way to go. As a stong advocate for flexibility in Durant , I see the idea behind Shaymin, but I still think Cobalion is the way to go.

Remember, Cobalion's purpose in Durant never was to take prizes, it was to further disrupt the opponent. Straight Durant runs into difficulty when the opponent inevitably manages to piece together a sweeper. However, when Cobalion is put into play with an Eviolite and a Special Metal Energy, the opponent is left with two options. The first is to focus their efforts on KOing the Cobalion before it gets setup. The second is to ignore it and try to win before it gets set up (assuming you're not bluffing about setting it up in the first place). Cobalion is very resilient, so it takes a lot of resources to KO quickly. If Cobalion does setup it can do incredible amounts of damage to the opponent's board with Energy Press. Additionally, Iron Breaker forces them to use more resources to retreat/ Switch /etc. Another one of Cobalion's strengths is its ability to take out bulky sweepers. Normally, the opponent would just setup another, but because you were milling all through early game, they often don't have the energy/Pokemon /draw power to set back up. From there, you just need to keep using devour and your disruptive trainers to put down any remaining resistance. Shaymin isn't bulky, can only do damage (and only in significant quantities in late game). And gives up 2 prizes. furthermore Shaymin requires a second enrergy type (you need to save your prisms for Rotom). The two just dont compare.

tl;dr: Cobalion>Shaymin EX

It's an idea.

However, just the fact that it gives up two prizes is already a setback in itself. By playing durant, your target is to stop your opponent from taking six prizes in the time it takes you to mill. The EX drawback goes against this very idea, and unless you can chain two consecutive "good" N disruptions to take the kill, the risk somehow seems to high.

Not forgetting that it's weak to fire. I'd rather have a plan to win against fire decks, not serve it on a silver platter.
