I thought that was called Highlander? (in the end, there can be only one)

I love the highlander name too, but "singleton" is more immediately intuitive.

Point is: it'd be a great series for them to play, since it requires so much skill.

You can simply play the format we have today, but with the following ban-list:

- Reshiram
- Zekrom
- Kyurem
- Pachirisu

This should a balanced and interesting format :)

I would throw Reuiniclus on that last. he's the main anit format, and makes Goth and Vileplume worse options than they would be with that banlist. And without Zekrom Yanmega needs to go there too, becasue no other lightning Pokemon is anywhere near decent except Zone who has problems with Mega. I mena, cards liek Vileplume, Zone, Donphan, Catcher, Goth, etc could all get bandwagoned to it as well, but taking out just 2 more key cards will make the format a lot more interesting.

So in conclusion, a ban list can get really heavy really fast, but the only other cards that would need to go there are:
-Yanmega Prime
-Reuiniclus

Well, obviously you have not played around with Lanturn ;) This card keeps Yanmega and Ross in check, and Mew pretty much kills Gothitelle. I don't believe my ban-list is insufficiant ;)

Obviously Donphan. I'm aware Lanturn is a decent card but it by no means single handily beats Yanmega decks with Donphan or Ross decks. Not to mention, if the format given is so overcentralized it forces the use of 1 card (Lanturn Prime), does that not defiate the point of banning the given cards int he first place? Besides, taking those 2 cards out also derails meta decks, which i figured was why you took those choice cards out int he first place. 2 cards more and Ross, goth, machamp lock, a good number of stage 1 varients, Primetime, traditional mew lock and the somewhat popularizing Yanmega/chandulure.

Well, with Cryogonal effectively being the first Donphan-counter around, I do not fear that prime to be too overplayed. Lanturn simply constitutes one among many ways to counter strong cards, but it wouldnt have been a must-play.

And if the ban-list were to cover reuniclus as well, Stage 1's in general would be WAY too good. The ross-engine keeps diversity in what would normally be a speed-fest amongst Donphan/Yanmega/Cinccino etc.

And without the massive damage output threat of Tyram, more intricate decks like Blastoise, Chandelure, Kingdra etc become at least somewhat viable. I sincerely think the ban-list should stop at the four I mentioned ;) It would be healthy :)

Pre-release style- 40 card deck, unopened boosters.

Bonus- can not use more then 4 of any card besides energy. (non-pre-release rule)

We'll be starting with the BW-On games in about 10 minutes! So far I'm leading 2-0 in the series, but we have a long way to go...

If you guys want an alternative format for a few games:

standard blw format/cardpool
with the old T1 rules (no trainers, supporters, stadiums for player going first).

Singleton sounds like a ton of fun. I'm going to try to convince Kyle to do Singleton instead of Mono-type tonight. Mono-type would play out just like modified. Typhlosion/Reshiram, Eelektrik/Magnezone, Emboar/Reshiram/Ninetales & Gothitelle/Reuniclus would all still work in that format...boring.

I also think we are going to be doing five games instead of three for some of the gimmick formats, which means the series will be composed of about one half modified and one half gimmicks. The idea I suggested to Kyle is that the gimmick formats will be three games, and after the three games complete, the loser will have the option to extend the series to five games.

Dude...Singleton is not that big of a gimmick, lol. It's actually extremely deep, and heavily rewards good players/deck builders. It's a format that's best played with 40 card decks/4 prizes due to how much time a real 60 card/6 prize format match would take, but for the purpose of this challenge, it could make for one of the best recorded games ever.

Singleton sounds like a LOT of fun. Add another vote to that.

Also, BW Only seems fairly boring. Seems very straightforward and pretty dull. Why not due something where one of you opens a super-sealed pool (a set of 12 packs of cards from one set) and then create a deck from those cards. They should be from a set that has decent, self-inclusive lines. I'm thinking, like, 12 packs of HGSS, make a deck from it. You have decent draw and search in that set, please decent lines. Should be interesting to see what gets built since you both have the EXACT same cards you'd be playing and it comes down JUST to deckbuilding and play skill. And, with a Super Sealed Pool, a lot of the variance you get with Sealed is taken away. Just a thought for another possible format.

I'd love to see something near the end where you take the 6 most winning gimmick decks throughout the entire series and assign each one a number from 1-6 and then roll a die before each game, playing the deck that matched the number you rolled. Would make for some really interesting matchups.

I think an every other set format qouls be fun. Like HGSS, UL, CL, EP

Then switch to UD, TM, BW, NV
