Skyla + Energy Search?

TRAINER HEZ

I've found myself giving this tip so often I'm wondering why other people don't use it.
If you run Skyla in your deck why not play 1 Energy Search?

Nobody plays Item lock now so I can't see the downside, all it does is make your all your Skyla say "Search your deck for a Trainer... or a Basic Energy", that extra line of text would save so many games I've seen. It doesn't really take up any space, it can usually replace an Energy itself.

Am I missing something? Why no love for Energy Search?

Energy search has been used by many thoughtful players in specific decks. Depends on how many Skyla's are in your build to see if one makes sense. If you a a few skyla's, I can't argue that energy search makes sense.

NOW.... For the people that run foolish low energy counts and are always complaining about missing energy drops cost them the game, they should not replace energy search with an energy. The penalty for missing an energy drop is very severe in pokemon and non - Energy accelerator decks.

I think there are two very, very good reasons for players not to run Energy Search with Skyla.

1) No room (something even more valuable must be used).

2) While not an optimal play, most can go Skyla => Computer Search => [insert Energy card].

The latter the added benefit of allowing a player to fetch Special Energy as well, but the drawback of using Computer Search potentially for a basic Energy card instead of something harder to search out. Still, one Energy Search without additional elements is only going to snag you a single basic Energy card anyway.

Despite these two objections I have raised, there are general instances where a player should be running Energy Search with Skyla unless absolutely no room is left in your deck. One is the same reason you should have been running Energy Search before Skyla came out; you've got Sableye as a major part of the deck and already know you're going to need some help with basic Energy. As stated, I was doing this before Skyla in such decks, and I continue to do it after.

The second fact is also if you're using a deck that doesn't run Computer Search. Whether because your deck really needs one of the other Ace Spec or because you're not able to spring for one right now (a bit unlikely for the competitive set), then again as long as basic Energy cards aren't so rare as to make Energy Search nearly a dead draw and you can make room, it is quite, quite useful.

Many of the decks I play (though not necessarily win with ¬_¬) fall into one of these two, so yes despite the objections I raised I actually use this combo fairly often.

Addendum: I also have found myself fearing Hammers more often, and trying to run basic Energy card when I can, even as TecH! @_@ If I was only running a lone Prism Energy or Blend Energy anyway, I usually trade being able to use the card in general for being able to easily search and reclaim it (and being immune to Enhanced Hammer). When I run more than a single (say 2-4) copies of a basic Energy, Energy Search even as a single is often quite useful, and if the deck already had good reason to run Energy Retrieval, even without Energy acceleration Hammers are diminished in usefulness.

In keldeo blastoise, their physical energy amounts matter a lot. It limits the amount of damage the deck can deal by 20. Also, by playing e search, you burn 2 "energy slots" at once. This makes it harder to hit the energy later by 1 card. If you absolutely need to fetch an energy with skyla there is always comp search/retrieval.

Rayeels and most darkrai vairants should be running e search though, with or without skyla.
