Soonercon will be held on July 15th & 16th at -
Bricktown Central Plaza Hotel
2001 E. Reno (Eastern & Reno)
Oklahoma City, OK 73117

Pokemon events will be on Saturday only!

League play for the day will be free as usual, (except for the entrance fee into soonercon). League play will start around 10 am & go until around 2 pm.

At 2 pm registration begins for a modified constructed tournament with a $5 entry fee. This will be a age modified swiss event with the # of rounds depending on the # of entrants. Then a cut of the top 25% m.o.l will play in single elimination matches, single game with the top players to get a BOX of cards. Which set is still to be determined. Other prizes as well.

There will also be 8 player pick-up tournaments in a modified constructed format. These are single elimination rounds with a $15 entry fee with the winner getting a box.

I found out that food will be free during the above event. Now just what kind of food I'm not sure. I'm thinking it's probably like sandwiches, chips, etc., but don't know yet.

As I understand from "old man", Pokemon will be on Saturday only. So, I will drive up on Saturday morning and come back to D/FW that night. I will only go if there are players from this area wanting to attend.

Correct that the Pokemon events are only on Saturday.

I had to edit about the $5 tournament. The top cut players will share in the box of cards.

It would be great to have several Texas players here for this. Always nice competition among us.
 
That's kind of expensive... Do you know what other events will be going on there? Someone mentioned a video game tournament...

I rarely, read never, eat in that area so i don't know what all is around. But I do know that in Bricktown, about 3 miles away there are several places such as spaghetti warehouse, Toby keiths, etc..

One of the main things about this event is the price for admission & then the other costs for the tournaments. We can not do anything about the admission, but the tournaments we can. If we can reach a consensus to run a smaller prize event then the entry fee will be smaller. If there are more people there than what we figure, then we might just have a free tournament as well.

Billy Drake is very flexible on this& is making very little, if any profit, so all he's really doing is covering the cost of the cards given away. he has also said the if the gaming part goes wel, then next year there will be a strictly gaming event instead of all the other stuff going on.

8 Player Single elimination pick up tourney's - Your choice of -
$3 Entry fee
3rd & 4th place get 2 packs each
2nd place gets 3 packs
1st place gets 5 packs

$5 Entry fee
5th - 8th place get 1 pack each
3rd & 4th place get 2 packs each
2nd place gets 4 packs
1st place gets 6 packs

Sealed pack or pass draft - Booster Draft
$16 entry fee
5th - 8th place get 1 more pack each
3rd & 4th get 2 more packs each
2nd place gets 6 packs
1st place gets 10 packs

Main event tournament
Guaranteed 1 box of cards as prize. If more than 15 players, prize pay out goes up.

$5 entry fee - swiss format. # of rounds & top cut depends on # of players.

If we have enough interest, we might have a cash tournament on Saturday as well.

Sounds good!!! Count me in. If there are enough players (8) will there be a "Sealed Pack" or "Booster Draft"???

Here's how I did in the Deck Switch Modified:

Round 1: Eeveelutions VS Whicker+Flariados (lol)

Well we both hate Flariados, so this was a fun game, and his flips were against the common law of (every heads on every card), going 2/5 or 2/6 on flips. I start the offensive with a Flareon, and then drop Vaporeon, pushing forward through his benched stuff, STM on hold in case he tries to spider trap. When he flame screens I just drop Jolteon ex and gg

Round 2: Metanite VS Lucas+Eggs.Dec

Bad start, but I make an insane comeback with triple rare candying into metagross + two dragonites. Unfortunately, because I'm dry of Metals, I can't immediately deal with the exeggutor, and lose on time :(

Round 3: "Birch Vomit" VS Roy+Burning Liability

He starts very slowly, and I'm pounding Koffings etc with a turn two Exeggutor RG. Even though he gets out two Typhlosions, my two Eggs (one RG and one delta, lol) are experienced enough to deal with this. That, coupled with the fact that Birch must play three or four briney, led to a win.

Round 4: Pooka Meganium VS Pooka's OTHER deck, Eggsdelta

Turn two Meganium!

Top "8" (we only had 10 people and let everyone into the cut 'cause this was a fun tourney, lol): Mettack VS Roy+Raieggs

My overwhelming swarm of Metagross, plus having Deoxys ex always open as an option, let me win this one. In a really close game, I topdeck the one card I need (draw or energy, hitting the latter). The one part that really hurt me in this game was having two stadiums prized :eek:

Top 4: Metagross VS Jorel (Metanite)

He's never able to pull out his 1-0-1 Pidgeot d tech, while I'm just steamrolling the entire time with a Metagross ex. GG bro.

T2: Metagross VS Glen (LBS)

We both get awful starts, but I'm able to set him up for a Deoxys ko on Steelix ex. We both finally begin to get a setup, but because of some really good draws on Admins+good Blastoise flips, I lose this one. GG

In short, that tourney was (and is) a blast =)
