Lol, this was my thought when I heard that Cursegar was a bad matchup for Shuppet...
Shuppet can entirely counter all setup-based Spiritomb decks with a single Chatter/Imbound lock (I myself prefer Imbound because of the energy requirements being achievable by default Shuppet energy lineup in 1 turns) not running Warp Energies and/or 2 Unown G's. As 1 Spiritomb is not enough to keep Shuppet on leash (due to teched in Regice), you will propably see 2 placed down. You should proceed to chatter/imboundlock to the first Spiritomb. Once Unown G is played down, play down Regice and Regi move. If another Spiritomb comes forward, just proceed to lock it. If anything else comes forward - well, you're free from the trainerlock altogether, or you may just double blower your way to lock the Spiritomb without G.
Spiritomb, while a greater starters of our time, has a vulnerability for the locking that should be taken in account on the Spiritomb based deck builders. Either this, or losing to the retreat lock.
The lock mentality also works best with Shuppet, as it's deemed to take some early-game prizes before being completely locked down. Of course, you should have a method to make the game last for 40 minutes even though you'll be locking every turn, but I'm sure there are cards to make this happen (Unown Z being the bad example here).
