'Spirit of the League'

Are people griping about "Some cheating little kid is getting the shiny packs before me."?
If you guys are, why? Is the point of the new league to get players that are really into the game more goodies or, tell a kid "Get your cheating deck out of here. I'm not giving you prizes for that."?
Aren't everyone who keeps on attending league going to get everything that means something eventually?
What is the real problem here? Just responding back just for the sake of argument? Or, making sure that the little kids that "cheat" don't get all of the stuff before the Adults do?

If you notice, only kids are really doing this. Not the dedicated-deckbuilder adults....

IMHO, the 'premier trainer' is not only supposed to be the player who EARNS the most points per week, but is ALSO supposed to serve as a role model of sorts to the other league members...and THAT is what disturbs me and other (adult) LLs about players who intentionally set out to LOSE the most games in the least amount of time to get the most stamps possible. THAT is what is against the 'spirit of the league'.

You're right, the league kit has enough 'stuff' for everyone. But if this type of 'play' is allowed, soon others will follow suit because of the example set by the premier trainer...and what fun will THAT be for anyone to play? And how will that help any player get better in preparation for CC, States, Nationals and Worlds?

I don't seem to have that problem at my league in Ft. Lauderdale. If someone keeps losing in my league, it's either because they have a bad deck, bad tactical sense, or both. In fact, the exact opposite seems to be the "problem": players who have such good decks, that they keep beating everybody rapidly.

Now one might argue that that would be the "spirit of tournaments" rather than the "spirit of the league," but you get the picture.

Tough one. Can you penalize a player for playing with a lousy deck? I have a couple novice players whom always loose quickly to most players. I've tried a number of times to help them build decent decks, but they're just little kids.

Something that might help is to limit games to 1 game per opponent. This would force them to jump around and find other opponents to play, thereby slowing them down at earning points quickly. This can be accomplished by giving the players a sheet of paper and require them to write down the names of their opponents. You can modify this to allow them to play the same players again after 1) they play everyone, or 2) they've played a minimum number of different opponents.

I have never thought of this until the email was sent out. Nobody here plays with a deck except for the island challenge this guy made a deck with 4 blains Magmar and 56 fire energy. I'm not sure if this qualifies as a deck like hedges or not.

If your deck is intended to win quickly, it does not violate the spirit of the league. If your deck is intended to lose quickly, it does violate the spirit of the league. It's a fine line and can be tricky to judge. In my opinion, Hedge's deck is fine because he's trying to win the game.

As the original message says, the spirit of the league is "playing games and having fun," not "working the system to earn your prizes quickly."

If you don't think it's wrong to play a deck thats intended to lose in 5 minutes or less, what's next? Is it okay to go to your league and have the League Leader just give you all of your prizes for showing up? That truly defeats the purpose of the league.
