Spread or Straight Damage, which is the better play?

As many know there are a large amount of decks out there now a days that use spread damage to win the game, however there are also a similar number of decks that use straight damage to win the game. My question though is which do people feel is the better play in a deck. Is spread better or is straight damage better?

As I see it right now the most popular decks use a little of both to win the game but mostly rely on heavy hitters that can combo with the damage they've already placed on there opponent's pokemon.

In my opinion, straight spread is positively silly.

If you lack the sniping capabilities to take out key targets (say, Claydol, Heatran/Leafeon Lv. X), then you're forced to spread the kill, and due to the multi-target nature of spread, it'll take a longer while, during which the activation of the tactical target could turn the tide of the game.

Spread with punches works, but still requires more maneuvering to take out key targets without the same time constraint.

Straight beatsticking has the same troubles as spread with punches, however, assuming beatsticking yields higher OHKO rates, the odds of a low bench making targets susceptible to warp point gives it a slight edge in that scenario.

All are viable and effective strategies: nothing says "GG" quite like TTar Tail-Spinning for 3 prize cards.

It's a matter of play style and synergy more than anything.

If you can spread fast... like 4 damage counters a turn on everyone then yeah.....
Anything that can place damage counters on everyone in between turns and spread 20 damage more is worth it. Maybe Bronzong, Spiritomb and Ampharos..... But I feel you still need a heavy hitter that can do a lot of damage and can hit fast.

Spread is good, but if its straight spread, your going to need some disruptive cards, or be super fast with it. The whole spread vs pure power debate really depends on what cards are out at the time. Right now I would say a mix is best, as there are very few decks that are one or the other right now.

Depends on how much control you have if u can pick off prices quickly before they evolve u can get some quick prices to win the game. if u can spread from early ur probalby gna be doing more damage than u need to overthe course of a game which measn u win obv so yeh it depends were the dasmage is going and how much damage u need to do its all about the additions of damage to a final win of 6 Knock0Outs

Sometimes, a little of both is awesome. Take Empoleon MD. Dual Splash is one of the best spread attacks in the game, while Surf Together can get a critical 80-90-100 or so damage. Or Flygon ex. He hits for a big 80 damage, while hitting the bench with his attack, then between turns with his body. On this topic, I like cards that can do both!

i think if u can at least spread 20 a turn then u are doing a good job.

BTW a good spread deck should have an attacker that can atk for 70 dmg. That is for some critical situations where u need to OHKO the active threat.

Spreading damage to each of your opponent's Pokemon is better than powerful attacks, which deal straight damage, because if your opponent has Trainer cards in their hand which recover damage from one of their Pokemon, like Potion and Poke-Healer +, they will be able to heal the straight damage that you have done to one of their Pokemon, but if you spread damage around all of the Pokemon on their side of the field, they will find it much more difficult to heal their Pokemon. Bronzong and Froslass and similar cards are lethal if you get them out early in the match, and combined with Omastar (MD), which devolves all of your opponent's benched Pokemon by one stage with its Poke-Power and the Technical Machine TMTS2 (LA) which allows any of your Pokemon to devolve any of your opponent's Pokemon for no energy, they are even more dangerous. Playing a deck that spreads damage, causes most opponents to underestimate your skill at the Pokemon Trading Card Game and plays various games with their mind. It can distract them from their game and spreading damage can ruin the strategy of opponents more than straight damage. Thank You to anyone who has read my opinion on this topic and please post your own view on whether spread decks or decks that deal straight damage are better.

Fire type Pokemon are awesome and will decimate, cremate and incinerate your opponents!

I could argue differently that spread damage is harder to get rid of than straight damage. Every play against a Torterra deck and try to spread them to death? lol GL with that.

A deck that can pull off 2HKOs/OHKOs with large amounts of hp (looks at gigas) usually isnt botherd to much by spread decks.
