Pokémon TCG: Sword and Shield—Brilliant Stars

St. Louis, Missouri Regionals

As usual...

Sour GGrapes!!!

You know David, maybe it DOES beat GG. Ever consider that? Just cause you beat it by benching it, doesnt mean it folds to all GG decks. Look across the nation. It cut in EVERY event it was played in. Seems like the top 2 had some unexpected FORMITABLE competition.

It was nice to see some new things winning games across the board. From what I am reading people have tried MANY, MANY differnt things and some were actually successful. PROPS to all of you.

I will agree that GG is a good deck, but it is no longer the ONLY deck. Time to find another bandwagon.

Jimmy

no sour grapes, why would i have any if it didn't cost me anything? In the game I beat it, I won midgame by benching it, we had exchanged a few prizes at this point. I had a terrible start having to rare candy into a gallade with no energy to play on the 2nd turn just to avoid losing. I had to warp a ban out of the way to give me a turn, ect.

Point is I was working under very very un-ideal situation in the games I played vs it and I managed to do very well, almost 2-0ing it if BOTH my furrets aren't prized.

At best I give it 50/50 with equally skilled players. It was just that easy to play around for me personally.

It isn't speedrill, it's just Beedrill. We made the deck we get to name it. Congratulations Master Colin, as always. Getting 2-round loses for showing up late is kinda like uhhhhhh pwned.

Now I understand why you and Bela never responded to my PM's.
Nice job keeping your deck under wraps, although you really could have told me no.

Looks like it didn't make any difference to me anyway :p

I just want to quickly thank Vince for having a GREAT set up for Regionals. Everything "appeared" to run smoothly :thumb:. It was great fun. And for it to come down to our Poke family in the finals just capped it,

To ALL the Judges at the tournament,,,Thank you for making MY Job 100% easier than it could have been.

Special Props to the Junior Division Judges. Over 80 little ones and you guys made it look easy, I could tell at the end though that it was not. Fabulous job.

To all the Players...everyone was CLASS. You played hard, took your wins and loses loke champs and when we judges had to adjust something...even though you didnt agree all the time....you handled it well and adapted.

Lets do it again next year,,,,Maybe a return to MEMPHIS (by the way believe it or not we have the MtG World Championships here this year...go figure

Thank you very much Vince for running such a smooth tournament, could have ended a little earlier though that would have been nice, ( The drive back was brutal, we didn't get back to Springfield until 4am:frown:).

But is was a very good tourney. Congrats to the winners and thank you to all the judges for what you do.

It was fun just wish I could have built something worth while, instead of throwing something together last minute.....:nonono:

Indeed it did awesome!! It could have been top 4 had it not been a mirror match in the Stl. Regionals. Great deck and yes it does beat GG almost every time.

First, to Clay my friend and HJ, all my DJs Cary (great job. My decision was SPOT ON), John (you ARE the Nats HJ, and well deserved) and to Ray Simmons (Always supportive a great friend and an elite judge!), my Cakewalk Queen (it was GREAT! More to build on for next year), and all of my judges and staff, you all were elite.

We had PUI in the house and we put on the BEST show I have ever been a part of!

You all came together and made this really work out.

For some of you, it was my first time to get the honor to work with you. MAN, everyone stepped up!

For some parents, see, get TOO close and you get pulled RIGHT in!!! Your energy and willingness to work to make this game a success in St. Louis NEVER ceases to amaze me. I just wish I could do more for you all!!!

To all the players. THANK YOU. Many of you could have gone to a different regional and thank you for choosing St. Louis for your Pokemon Playing! I will continue to try to bring you the best events I know how to.

If you have ideas on making it better next year, PM me.

Now, as for the timing of the event...we went off about as quickly as scheduled.

Registration went from 9-10:30. I can't start any earlier.

My ELITE judges had all the decks checked by 11:10!

We had a player roster posted at 11:20. We had everyone seated for round 1 at 11:30, and started play at 11:40. Only 10 minutes behind ideal schedule!

I decided to do a 1 hour lunch break after round 1. The lunch break HAS to come sometime, and with a lot of people being there early, I decided that earlier was better. We started round 2 at 1:15.

Figure we had to run 5 more rounds, at at least 55 minutes each (counting posting standings and late games and getting people seated for rounds), then the earliest the earliest we should have ended swiss was about 6:00. Give an hour for the dinner break, and then we could end no earlier than 11:00. Last match was over at 11:45.

I wish there was a way to shorten it. I am not going to reduce by a swiss round, and I can't eliminate either food break. More accurately, I shouldn't.

I do know that of the BIG regionals, we ended 1st. That is a credit to Clay and the rest of the Division Judges in keeping things going.

Thanks again to all....you keep inspiring me to make the next one I do even better.

Mark your calendars for next year. Every Staff Member there is OFFICIALLY reinvited to be on staff for Regionals 2009. And that goes for Ken the Moon as well!!! (If I get awarded a Regional)

Thanks to Animagination in the St. Louis Mills Mall! You all did all the little things and BIG to make my life easier. Your staff is elite. I can't wait to have that league flourishing! It will, SO many players couldn't wait to start playing!

Thanks to Pete for being there and being a part of the fun!!!

Thanks to PPC and Heather for keeping the Pokeball Room at least SOMEWHAT Sane!!!

Vince

Well I had a great time!
I didn't do great, but I got a hat and battled alot during my spare time.
People like my Lucario hat.(With Ears and everything!)
Vince you rule!
The people that brought me pushed me to drop from the last round only to find after that I had the draft to do...LOL
Just around the cornor was this cool store with Japan Pokemon stuff!

The Nashville crew had an absolute blast. Overall, we all fared very well with noone finishing worse than 22nd in their division. We had one top 8, one top 16, a 17th place finish (grrrrr), an 18th, and 22nd.

My top 8 finish was completely unexpected. I only wish it had been reversed and it was both my boys playing in the top cut. Thanks to everyone's kind support when the top cut started. I had never made a top cut before and was pretty darn nervous. You all seemed genuinely happy for me.

My only regret was the we didn't bring jackets. We left Nashville in 80 degrees only to arrive in 40. Noone mentioned it was supposed to drizzle snow Sunday morning!!

Vince, a very well run event with no major snags.

Taylor, you continue to make us proud. Congrats on the repeat win.

Colin, Solid play all day. I knew you had the Dusknoir but I didn't bother reading it beforehand. Silly me, benching all 3 claydols. I wanted a rematch but didn't make it past 8.

Brian, way to roll through the juniors. I had hoped Kyle would make it to you but he bowed out in an utterly frustrating way.

Vince you totally rock man thanks for everything that event got Dwight and Sterlin totally hyped up, they are dying to play some more, That event was awesome. Colin Congrats man, Cant wait until ths next set comes out then BR, and nats.

Outside of all of the PROPS going out in this thread, I have to add a couple, just because I was impressed with this entire thing.

1. Alyssa G. from Urbana making Top 16 in a VERY competitive Seniors group. This was her second big tournament. WTG, Alyssa!

2. The two Juniors in the Finals match. You guys finished AFTER the Masters group! That's the kind of dedication that you rarely see in the top echelons of the Masters, and you guys simply ROCKED!

3. Vince, Clay, and everybody whose name I completely forget. I thought Rockford was awesome last year. This completely blew my mind, and redefined for me how a Pokemon tournament is supposed to be both organized and run. Spectacular organization, staff, and players, and I would be honored to work with you guys again next year (given a couple of variables). States shouldn't be a problem either.

4. All 226 players, and countless parents, who decided to show up, many out of the blue. I believe that we gave away all 100 of the LvX's in the first half hour of registration, all of the PCD Tins were gone by the start, and we were down to only Weavile deck sleeves (and not too many of them either) at the end. Amazing turnout, made to look comparatively small by the awesome space!

5. All 11 people who came down from Urbana. That was a tough field, guys, and I'm impressed, not only with Alyssa, but with all of you. Many were pretty close to the top cut going into the last round, only needing a win to get in. I'm sad that only one did, but happy that everybody enjoyed their time, especially those who played in the Draft.

Only one slop. To one of my kids in the draft. Getting a TSD, and deciding to play with it. Problem is, he didn't use card sleeves. *ARGH!!!*

Next year!

First, to all of the players you were great!! Clay and John good seeing and working with you again always a blast.
To all the new Staff members I got to work with you were awsome!!

Vince, what can I say but an awsome EVENT!! You out done your self again and Thank You for allowing me to be a part fo it!!

and last can't wait to see everyone at Nationals!!!!!!

^ I came in top 16 b/c of time, but after swiss I was 4.

You can have it!!! It didn't help at all!!!

It was an honor and a pleasure to be a part of this event. It was the most fun I've had doing work in a long time :)

Unfortunately, I was so worn out at the end, I just walked out in a zombie-like daze without saying goodbye to anyone!

Vince, you are the very definition of epic awesome. It was an amazing shindig from start to finish. I am there for 2009 -- come on, you know it's gonna happen, Pete De Shaw witnessed the awesomeness first hand! They have to give you another Regional!

To Clay, John, Ray, Ryan, and the rest of the staff whose names I can't remember -- you are all excellent and a lot of fun. It was great to be a part of such a well-oiled machine.

John -- thanks for that epic Eeveelutions deck box!

To the fine folks from B&B Games -- thanks for that other epic deck box. Still looking for a glass case for it.

Oh, and Kansas Juniors REPRESENT! We Jayhawkers laid claim to two 2 of the top 3 Juniors spots! The Midwest power base continues to consolidate....and those 2 will both be at Nationals! I expect good things....

 Props all around! Activities, prizes and venue were most excellent. But that was Munchlax
compared to all the folks partaking.

:thumb: Thank you all, staff and judges, what a party! I didn't get to meet most of you cuz the lab coats
still kinda scare me and I don't wanna cause no trouble or nothing... Double scoop kudos to
the Masters judges for every round I played, and the Juniors judges for seeing it all to the end.

:pokeball: Players, what a great day of battles. Hariyama, Gardylocks, Garytoo, Magmotar, Gatr, Houndoom,
Ralts, enjoyed them all! Best part was not playing anyone I already knew. WTG Champions, a real
class act: Colin, you won with what?, Taylor, you won with what ??, and Brian, you are a card playing
machine!! Congratulations all, much well very deserved.

 Special shout outs to our Northern Kansas friends, we really enjoyed hangin with ya, and our buds
from Missouri, old and new, a truly awesome gang. Susan, Nate and I had blast Saturday, and all
year, chasin the game. Mebbe we can get our Oklahoma friends to head north next year...
Looking forward to Nats, can't wait to see some of you again.

 Most of all, go Sue (4337) and Nate. It seems we've spent as much time driving as playing
and I've loved every minute. You guys are the best.

2. The two Juniors in the Finals match. You guys finished AFTER the Masters group! That's the kind of dedication that you rarely see in the top echelons of the Masters, and you guys simply ROCKED!

Next year!

I guarantee Nate wouldn't trade it for the world, everything except for the Absol part anyway. Now where's
that Sableye...

If it's Sunday and you're in Wichita, well, you've prolly got a problem, but come and see us, we're playin!

Why do you think I let you borrow it?

Cresselia is nice on paper, but just doesn't cut it in a deck for me.

Well, Congratulations at getting top 16.

i know it's a bit late but props to everyone especially the people who wrote on my face (i cant belive im not getting props for that even though by the end of the tourney my face was kinda smudged) but it was a blast and i had soo much fun even with a horrible record.
