State College, PA City Championship (12/7) theft:

hi players, unfortunately a theft has occured at a city championships today (12/7) in state college, PA. My daughter is a junior and brought her kindle fire to the tournament today to play when the swiss rounds for juniors ended. She left her kindle on the table for a minute after the master's swiss rounds were over. When she came back, her case had been ripped off and the kindle fire had been stolen.

The kindle has been permanently locked so it wont work for whoever stole it or whoever ends up with it. Any information anyone might have on this matter would be extremely helpful and appreciated. Please help in any way you can to return my daughter's kindle.

I'm sorry, I had to delete that short list of names.

You can't accuse a short list of people of theft like that, with zero evidence other than that they were at the tournament.
And I know you're going to say you're not accusing them of theft, but its pretty clear that you are.

Seriously if you bring this stuff with you to any large crowded area make sure to keep an eye on it.
Or keep it with you at all times.

To the TC was there any sort of video cameras in the building?
If so you could get proof of whom took the item (as long as it's easily seen proof).

The reason people are so "bad" is that you gave them very easy access to the item.
If you saw a $100 bill just sitting on a table, without anybody around would you just leave it?
99% of the time the answer would be no, unless you are a very honest person.

That is not a reason for people being "bad." That is a bad decision on the part of a dishonest person. And yes, I would leave it or turn it in to a responsible organizer who could hold on to it until the owner came asking for it.

If I saw a $100 bill in the pokemon area of my tournament, I would take it to the lost and found... it's very different from finding it on the street.

And if I saw an expensive piece of electronics, or a binder, I would raise it up and ask who it belongs to. Which I have done multiple times. We have no thefts at our leagues/tournaments and people are constantly leaving their 3DS, binders, or whatever else unattended.

Opportunity can make someone do a criminal act... but only if that person already had that nature in them...

Well kudos to those honest people!
I wasn't implying that I would take the items either.

However theft has happened to me in the past (just some cards).
Thus I keep track of my stuff at all times.

This does seem a little off topic but I have been playing for quite some time, I went to a regionals last year right when dragons exalted came out and the shiny rayquaza came out and priced around $100 (referencing the $100 bill theory above) I was trading with a junior player who really wanted to obtain some exs that I had, he gave me his entire trade book (It had his along with his families cards inside) just on the front page was a playst of rayquaza and within the book contained a great number of high end cards. The pairings were announced and the kid took off, I waited for him to return but he never did so I assumed he already sat down for his match, I returned the book with all cards to lost and found and later tracked down the kid and brought him to lost and found to retreive his cards. I did not take or even thing of aquiring any of those cards.

So, Please to whoever thought it was a good idea to aquire the kindle, keep Pokemon safe, make friends, and have fun, do not cause unsafe habits, trouble, or sadness in others especially since you are apart of the community too.

Did the event have security cameras? If so, after the Kindle was stolen, I would have asked someone immediately from security to view the footage. I am assuming this was held on Campus (maybe in a lunch room), and in most colleges, security cameras are watching.

Except for a few key areas (which the Pokemon tournament very possibly could have been held in), security cameras are rarely watching in colleges.

I would imagine there was a video of it since the tournament probably took place at a main public place. I can't say for Penn State, but where I went to college there were video cameras everywhere in public buildings.
