Pokémon TCG: Sword and Shield—Brilliant Stars

Steelix Prime..does it have new found potential?

Reshiram is partnered almost exclusively with Emboar, which isn't affected by energy denial. DCE also isn't going to be used in most lists with it because it doesn't aid Blue Flare at all. Even if DCE was in the list and it somehow got attached to a Reshiram, that is just one of 3-4 Reshiram that the deck has that can't attack Scizor, or it could just retreat away the DCE once Scizor hit the field to regain attack eligibility.

Steelix is definitely solid...when people aren't playing massive Fire-types and Magnezone.
I think that Steelix could benefit from a solid Zoroark line plus Pluspowers, to counter Reshiram/Magnezone at least.
If nothing else, Steelix can wait for Pokemon Catcher to be released, and then it can try and drag up Emboars and the like for a while.

Emboar can still attack it, y'know... XD

The other day I was thinking that Steelix could still be good besides the whole Reshiram thing. The way to solve that problem is regular Kingdra. Kingdra Prime could help with damage output as well. If you tech in a Klingklang you would also have to add switch and Seeker or some way to be able to heal the Steelix. Initially I'm thinking that's a little too much to fit in a list. But let's give it a try.

Pokemon: 23
3-3 Steelix
3 Skarmory
3-2-2-2 Kingdra
1-1-1 Klingklang
2 Cleefa

Supporters: 13
4 Collector
2 PETM
3 PONT
2 Juniper
2 Seeker

Trainers/Goods: 10
4 Switch
4 Pokemon Communication
2 Rare Candy

Energy: 14
4 SP. Metal
4 DCE
4 Basic Metal
2 Water

The list seems very tight on space. But if you really want to make Steelix work it's a good starting point, unless you can find a Basic or Stage 1 water to cover it's weakness.

I think Samurott would be a better fire counter since you can run a smaller line and you don't need your water energy. It has more bulk as well and will survive longer.

My Decklist

I'm running a deck exactly like this and I don't use Steelix at all, I feel he is too slow. Here is my list if you want to study it
I call it: ScizTurn-n-Gearz

Pokemon 22:
3x Scizor Prime
3x Scyther (2x UD-36, 1x UD-65)
2x Lanturn Prime
2x Chinchou
2x Klinklang
2x Klang
3x Klink
1x Skarmory (I need 2x I just don't know what to take out yet)
1x Dodrio
1x Doduo
1x Smeargle
1x Bouffalant

T/S/S 21:
4x Pokemon Communication
2x PETM
3x Pokemon Collector
1x Revive
1x Seeker (I may take this out for the extra Skarmory)
1x Twins
3x PONT
2x Energy Exchanger
1x Engineer's Adjustments
2x Interviewers Questions (I may take one of these out as well for something else)
1x Fisherman

Energy 17:
6x Metal
4x Special Metal
3x Lightning
4x DCE

Don't hold me to anything yet though, I will come back and re-edit this later, this deck has NEVER been played yet by me against any worthy opponet, so this deck may be horrible, who knows. Please help me out if you have any ideas on what to change to it HeartGold22

That's a good point. Still, I'd rather they attack with Emboar than with anything else IMO, since they lose energy acceleration should it get KO'd.

They could have 2 Emboar out, but...2 Emboars out probably means that Steelix loses regardless, so, yeah. :)

^ Losing the Emboar won't be a severe drawback and if they're really feeling ballsy, they can just retreat it. Energy Retrieval/Junk Arm is a staple in Reshiboar anyways.

WAY too many 1-ofs.

For next format as a whole, I think Steelix is severely underrated. Once catcher comes out, the Emboar threat becomes almost non-existant. And, while fire as a whole does really hurt, it is easily played around. Machamp is problematic with Uxie gone, but they also lose their draw Engine and Steelix is way easier to set up. Magnezone will be a huge problem, but not as big as it was this format. It is a stage 2 that needs to consistently burn through its deck without any 'Tomb and Regirock...yeah, it will be good, but it won't be as good. Since the matchup was horrible to begin with, making it better only helps. And, if Donphan has ANY prevalence at all (and Machamp), I can't really see Magnezone being good. Magnezone will struggle worse against Donphan than Steelix will against Reshiram.

And, as I've said before, Steelix will do better than most think because of Judge. The crappy draw in next format will make Judge amazing and Steelix can recover better from Judge than ANY poke in the format except Magnezone...but, Magnezone will struggle tremendously against an early Judge with the loss of 'Tomb. Yeah, it hurts Steelix also, but Steelix is easier to set up than most decks and has the luxury of dumping cards in the discard to aide set up. Energy Streaming energy and Junk Arming healing make Steelix tough.
