Strange Music File Types

I've been coming across some strange music files.
I'd like to know the point of these... and above anything, a way to convert them to wma or mp3.
FLAC
OOC
And on a side note, point of m4a?

FLAC is Free Lossless Audio Codec. I just wish my FLAC codec (from the CCCP) would ACTUALLY decode FLAC files so I could play them. :\ I have to play them in VLC and even that has trouble playing them. :|

m4a is the iTunes format, if I'm not mistaken

That sucks, my automatic suggestion in these cases is VLC

I abhor using VLC. It's absolutely terrible at playing files with softsubs (subtitles that can be turned on and off). Media Player Classic is where it's at.

I can vouch, m4a is indeed the itunes format!
