Pokémon TCG: Sword and Shield—Brilliant Stars

Sunday Live from U.S. Nats - Winners announced!

Thanks for the congrats all.

Gino: Gardy
Drew: Gardy
Colin: Torterra
Me: Gardy

Rest of Top 8 was 2 Gardy (Alex and Tom) 2 Empoleon/Bronzong (Frankie and Jorel)

I had to beat Pooka and Jason in T32 and T16 respectively, lowering the Lafonte count as we went up ;(

Congrats to everyone, I'll post a report later today when I get home or tomorrow.

7 out of the Euro Prof Cup Top 8 was Wormadam, so they ban it.
6 out of the US Nationals was Gardy, but not banned.

Couple of things Phazon Elite

He felt most comfortable with Gardy, we had an empoleon list that had a edge ova the gardy list but he figured he can outplay anyone playin emp and that their list was not gonna be any where near as good as ours XD Also his gardy had a huge edge ova mirror so it was the play.
Again, that's completely understandable, and it's what one SHOULD do under the circumstances. Choose the deck that gives you the best chance at winning, major revelation there. Heck, had I been able to get the time off from work, I would have probably ended up using Plox or Empoleon/Bronzong myself. That doesn't mean that the outcome of Plox winning yet another tournament is any more exciting.

Jimmy played banbliss with 2 techs or so, others play magleaf. There was seriously no roguez this year. And for the geniuses who say gardy is an easy way to win, mirror against a good player comes down to skill and techs. Gino had both hence new guido champ. Period. You wanted a rogue to win? Make one yourself and see how good u would do :p Or rely on jimmy, even he didn't play rogue at nats so what shoot u think u got at makin a competive one XD
Ah, yes. The old "If you aren't impressed you should have done it yourself" argument.

Look, all this proves is that it's a good thing I stayed home. I would not have made T32, so I would have had to stand around and watch a never-ending stream of Plox vs something games. Damn it, I can see that at League. Why should I be all amazed and bedazzled by a duel that I've seen multiple times at Local BRs and Leagues?

Torterra getting T4? That's amazing and cool. Plox winning and getting two other T4 spots? That's boring and expected.

Yes, but people weren't gonna buy packs to get Wormadam.

As with any other corporation, PUI's (if I got the right company. lol) primary goal is making money.

*Nod*

Suppose there were that many Torterra decks? Perhaps if Majestic Dawn had contained (more?) anti-GG cards?

One thing id like to know is What flight players won.....Cuz im curious as to what flight won the most in the opening round of Top 32....

Exactly, and at almost all Nationals the same thing. (and not to forget SPT"s and Regionals)
Worlds is going to be one big boring Gardy/Gallade vs Empoleon tournament.

I don't think Gardevoir or Gallade is going to be banned, but what if there was put a restriction on them.
Let's say you can only play Gardevoir (incl Lv X) OR Gallade in your deck. (so not both in 1 deck).

Food for thoughts perhaps?

Personally, I would have rather seen Torterrible win. Oh well. I'd say T4 wasn't that exciting.

Does anyone know what the T4 players in SR se and what won?

some of GG's dominance is due to its effectiveness in the 30 minute single game swiss format.

Does Japan play untimed or timed games in their knock out format?

===================

congrats to Henry, Gino and Orion,

Congrats to Brandon C. for 3rd in Juniors!
Representing Chattanooga well!

very nice tech in breloom. perfect combo with moonlight stadium to effectively ko gardevoir or cresselia in a mirror match.

ok i need to ask..... why was people with 9-0 record not in top 32? i want a good reason so it doesnt happend at the canadian nats.

They lost in their fleet's T32 before the merge. Effectively, they lost in the first T64 game. No-one was eliminated until they lost a game.

i beat one of the 9-0's in top 64.

I made it to top 16 and lost to Drew Holton making me 10th.

IT was a fun expierence and cant wait to see all of you guys at Worlds

Untimed with 4 prizes in the first rounds, then timed and 6 prizes in the final rounds. So first, GG is unplayable, then (once you advance to the final rounds) it becomes _very_ good.

There is no possible comparison here.

The Professor Cup was a completely UNOFFICIAL tournament, a place for the Professors to have fun and simply enjoy themselves while doing something that they have not had a chance to do all year: play. It was a one-time-only tournament, and will probably never have this particular format again. Players hadn't spent the entire year working on their decks and their strategies for the tournament. Thus, it's quite easy to ban one particular card.

Nationals is official. It must use the same format used throughout the entire year, with the additions of only the cards in the newer sets. There is NO PRECEDENT from either PUI or WOTC for banning a single card in the middle of a tournament season, and there is no precedent from any Pokemon company for restricting any card at any time.

You're comparing apples to oranges. They're both fruit, but one is eatable, and one is disgusting (to me, at least).

Why should GG be unplayable with 4 prices ?
GG has an awesome early game, gallade should still be getting one OHKO, and Gardi X just loves this format.
Maybe it's because im too late, but I don't get it

Am I missing full brackets for each of the day 2 players (in each age group)?? It would be quite interesting to see.

GG in Japan with untimed and 4 prizes means less hitting power for Gallade (+20 for each prize flipped x4 = 80 extra, 6 prizes --120 extra.) 40 less overall "free" damage is HUGE. Then, after they KO the 1st "tank" Poke, flipping say 3 of 4 prizes.....the deck loses steam. JMO since I've never been to Japan. Just my thinking.
