Sunglasses in tourneys.

If sunglasses were really reflective there would still be no way you could see your opponents hand. You have to be careful they can't see yours! There is bluffing in Pokemon all the time. Does he have that Multi? Does he have Switch? A lot of the time you can't tell but if you can then that is a great advantage. Plus shades are just cool.

Hmmm.

Where Am I going with this?

If Anyone been watching the World Series Lately, Mr. Greg "Fossilman" Raymer has this ELITE pair of Sunglasses, there Reptile Glasses, that are scary, everyone refuses to look at them, aka. Opponents wont concentrate as much which will cause Misplays.

DGL - Nah, Ive read those loooong ago, never thought about it. Just got the idea while watching, thats all.

Thanks for the replys ^_^.

Raymer 04.

well in all honesty....... only a poker player knows the true advantages of sunglasses to themselves......

it's not a distraction, but it does give the wearer certain slight advantages, some previously mentioned....

-the ability to conceal your eyes works wonders as your opponent isn't able to see what you r looking at
-along with that, it is also a type of confidence booster to some who feel like they have a small wall to protect themselves from the outside world.....
-there are a few others, but they apply more towards poker, not pokemon....

speaking of which *flips channel over to ESPN to watch WSOP*

This actually brings up an interesting idea: Dress for distraction. If you wear something really far out there, you're bound to distract your opponent. Although, I wouldn't suggest doing it at local tourneys....might scare off prospective new players. ^_~ Maybe its time to dig out some old halloween costumes... :p

OOOOOOOHHH.Sunglasses.Wear them and when your opponent thinks they have the upper hand they can't see your confedint cause you have the Switch and energy...Then if you don't were and look like this is it I've lost your opponent will go easy and you will take advantage!LOL!

dress for distraction? - nude pokemon coming soon ROFLOL
I said dress, not undress. :p maybe something like a huge fro, tie dye shirt...y'know...something that would make it hard for them to take you seriously. XP

I think wearing sunglasses is a perfectly good idea. It adds to intimidation, as well as makes it so that your opponent doesn't know where your concentration is. It adds a mental advantage to you, and as a chess player, know that it also can keep your opponent from second guessing you. In Chess, players are notorious for staring at pieces or flaws in the position that they are worried about to think ahead. It may not be as big of deal in Pokemon but it can be an edge. Also, there is an advantage to sometimes letting your opponent see a card in your hand. Doing this, you can trick them into certain moves. For instance, lets say a certain attack they use would be extremely effective if you don't have a Switch to recover with, but even if you do, you know your hand isn't going to recovery well. Showing them your switch will certainly discourage them from making what would still likely be the best move.

Also, lets say you have a 5 card hand. They wonder if you have a key card, like an evolution, or rock tm. "Accidently show them all but one card, which is intentionally the card you want to keep hidden. By making them think theres a 1 in 60 chance of you having that card ( If you can keep up the mask that you showed them on accident ) than they will be much more likely to play as if you don't have said card. Its much like the simple idea of moaning all game about how you wish you ran Rock TM, than once they drop all their evos with Rare Candy, drop your Rock TM and win the game. Its also fun to complain about your opponent having a certain card, hoping they use it against you in order to give you a win. I've never been more amused than when I complain " Let me guess. You TDed the stupid Gardy EX didn't you " and than watching them drop it on me, only to retaliate with Rayquaza, Firestarter x3, Multi, KO, GG. You can trick your opponent into making alot of mistakes by making yourself seem helpless, and at times showing a few cards inconspicuously can be extremely helpful. The sunglasses also help in hiding your emotions when doing said tricks. None the less, 99% of the time glasses just add intimidation, nothing more.

Dress for distraction? Like this guy?

I think the whole thing is pretty silly. In poker you're trying to read the other players to see (a) how confident they are and (b) are they bluffing.

But if it makes somebody feel better to wear them, do it!

Personally, I want to wear a doctor's smock and hold a stethescope (sp?) to my opponent's Pokemon and say "He's dead Jim" when I knock it out.

Intimidation has always been a part of this game.

Whether it is the unsporting kind of "are you done yet, are you just going to attack, here, I'll take 30, OK?" To the player who is just so good that the room knows him when he enters the room, and it flusters the opponents - we call that the Ness/Kevin White factor. (I guess being 2nd in the World, it will be called the Fulop factor too!)

Intimidation can be easily countered by a player who flat can play the game, and have confidence in his own style. The hurrying kind of intimidation is a warning at my events. You do not let your opponent play, and continually rush him, or "coach" him or her, than you get an unsportsmanlike warning. Second one, is a game loss. Harsh, but effective.

The sunglasses, the hair, the shirts, the armbands, all part of the intimidation, and all relatively effective.

Name recognition is too....how intimidating will it be for anyone to play Fulop from here on in??? Really kind of intimidating. It is the kind of respect that Taylor M. will start to get, and that Andrew K and Kevin White have enjoyed for quite some time in the 10- division. That kind of intimidation only works at larger events, and not at events where the players are used to banging against each other. I do not think that Taylor, Andrew and Kevin will ever be intimidated by each other...they will have respect, but not be intimidated.

OK, enough of my rant. I will wear sunglasses at events, not for the cheap tricks, but because I do not like to give up my strategy! You can tell a lot by looking in someone's eyes.

I have ben attemting to stare away from this subject but now i cnat stare away anymore.

Here is how i fell on it:
Sunglasses in a game should be allowed but if your wearing wild reptile glasses like Greg "Fossilman" Raymer in the WSOP wore then that can be called distracting and you should have to remove them. There are ways to cheat with them but its so hard its not a concern. If you want to wear glasses and they arent deemed as distracting i fell you should be able to wear them in a game.

Thats just my 2 cents ;)

yea really, if the person sees your cards while you're wearing the glasses, then well too bad thats your mistake for wearing the glasses.

Theres no big deal in wearing sunglasses.
-they are stylish
-they add intimidation
-they add a defensiveness to your well...confidence or what not
-no cheating involved

people should be allowed to wear what they want to wear without breaking laws. lets not get all communist on how people should be dressed, this isnt a private school =/

a year or so ago, we ran into a problem at a tourney where somebody was wearing some crazy googly eyed freak you out caffene addicted druggie sunglasses that were ÜBER distracting. They made her take them off, b/c ppl couldn't concentrate. That's the main reason why alot of TO's and Judges make you take them off. It's like borderline cheating. I don't see why normal sunglasses would be a problem, but if you ban one kind, i guess you gotta ban em all.
