The Big Island of Hawaii gets hit by earthquake!

My wife and I were eating dinner at a restaurant in Hilo...We heard a "thud" ....the building shook...the lights flickered.....and then all were asking if it was an earthquake.......a local polynesian sitting near by said in a somewhat laughing manner....Welcome to Hilo!!!!!!!!!

The waitress came to the table and asked if there was anything more she could get for us....I asked her is she always provided such free entertainment for all her customers....she smiled...

We were in Hilo when the earthquake hit. The building shook in the direction of about a foot from center. The swimming pool looked like the water was bubbling. The place shook about 5 seconds and it took us about that long to realize that that was an earthquake. My first!

As for hurricanes--there can be an upside. They bring rain. Hawaii was in a bit of a drought and the rain was very welcomed. Living in Texas for so many years, after a long hot summer, the fall hurricanes brought some rain which we were happy to have. Without the strong winds, a hurricane is ok.
