Everybody knows I'm not a competitive player I used to be, but I can still play Pokemon. I haven't really played Pokemon competitively since Regionals in April 2010. Though I decided to come to a cities and see how well I do, and especially with a deck I built the night before... Which is Steelix Prime, a.k.a Steelers. I got to cities an hour before it opened, looking over my deck again. In San Diego.
I didn't know what the metagame was. I was too busy being a jock and going to football practices and school life. So I went to people and looked at their decks and not much has changed. Just Gyarados, SP, and FIRE TYPES. Since I'm running Steelix, I thought I had no chance to win, even if I was the same player as before. And just about all of these people were nerds, and of course, I was kidding around nerds.
for the past 3 years at this event at the same store, I got 5th place. And never a Top 4.
I borrowed cards from a lot of people, like wow. I got out my ipod and played, "We no speak Americano" which is a good song to play and play over again. Somewhat seniors with a Top 4 Cut.
Round 1: Norman and a Bye 1-0
Round 2: Norman v/s Kamz (nerrrrrrd) with Vilegar 1-1
I played Spiritomb in Steelix and I kept benching so many Pokemon with Poke-Powers. He took five prizes and I took none. Then I came back taking four prizes getting around SF Gengars each time. But it looked like I was at my limit, he took his last prize by sniping my Blissey PL.
LUNCH BREAK:
Ehhh... Goldedda and I went to McDonalds with a couple other people. I ate 4 McDonalds burgers and 2 Ice Cream cones, goldedda said even fat people wouldn't eat that. I said, football players need to eat, unlike you nerds just being lazy couch potatoes. I got out my ipod and played the song again. Awesomeness.
Round 3: Norman v/s Chris (Gyarados) 2-1
This game was easy. This was Steelix defense. Steelix Prime with 4 Special Metals, Expert Belt, and knocking out a Gyarados each turn with Gyarados does no damage to my Steelix. Good game.
Round 4: Norman v/s KID (TYPHLOSION PRIME W/ NINETAILS?) 3-1
Dang. I thought I was going to lose this. He got set up quick but no matter what, I knocked out 2 Typhlosion Prime with Steelix Primes and Blissey PL. He knew he couldn't go any further, he gave up.
Round 5: Norman v/s ANOTHER FIRE KID? (Charizard/Typhlosion/Ninetails) 4-1
There were 2 Fire decks in the tournament, and out of all people, I had to face this guy and the other 2 rounds in a row. He got out 2 Charizards, 2 Typhlosions, and a Ninetails. When I had 2 Steelix Prime and 2 Blissey PL. We traded prizes, he drew 3 and I drew 6. People said Steelix has autoloss to fire types, what now.
top 4: Norman v/s Jacob (nerrrrrrd) game 1 ----- 0/1
I had very bad set up and couldn't do anything. He eventually knocked out my Pokemon.
game 2: 1/1
Steelix Defense was here. I had multiple Steelix with Special Metals and had unlimited heal. He couldn't do anything, that's what Steelix is supposed to do striking 130 a turn.
game 3: 1/2 (lost on time)
When this game started, I had this game planned out because I had Steelix Prime with unlimited heal coming up. Of course he's going to be ahead by at least 2 prizes, and the judge calls time. I had the perfect hand and the perfect set up to go the distance but Jacob was ahead in prizes.
so once again, I lost because of time. So I learned that playing slow and risky decks are not a good idea in this format. Exact same reason why I lost in Top 4 at Regionals, because of time when I was about to win. Like seriously. People said for a jock, that was amazing to beat all of the nerds out there.
I found out worlds was in san diego of course, I decided if I became competitive again, this world's visit would be much different. I found out a deck that has a good match up against EVERYTHING except of Charizard. I seriously hate Charizard.
Props:
- Congrats Jacob, for winning your first cities.
- Getting Top 4, again.
- Steelix, you did awesome against Charizard.
- Pulling a Machamp prime and a Dialga/Palkia legend out of 4 packs.
- Matt S. for the fun!
- Finally in my 4th year, I didn't get 5th place at the game empire event.
Slops:
- TIME
- Bradley for... Getting donked.
- Stevo for not coming because of Basketball.
