Pokémon TCG: Sword and Shield—Brilliant Stars

The FL Marathon Thread

I truly don't understand how Landorus is a good tech against Durant. 80 damage is meh, and the 10 spread should be negated by Eviolites.

So you're just going to ignore the fact that Orion is a former National Champion?(it may have been in Seniors, but it was in a much more skill based format than this year and you're mentioning Sanchez's win)

And Luke Reed go Top 8 at Worlds this year if I'm not mistaken. He also got 2nd with Steelix at NorthEast regionals earlier this spring (bad match-up and his opponent got lucky). Not sure about his other accomplishments but he's a fantastic player

Orion should obviously be on the list, but why wouldnt he mention my win? I'm the current champion and implying that i didnt have to play good is just dumb. Yeah Orion got to outplay more opponents than me, sure. But being in masters usually doesnt give you that luxury with more rounds and better players.

Play well, you meant to say play well

Now to stop being a jerk, I just wanted to have Orion mentioned. He took a very creative deck into arguably one of the top 2 most skill based formats and won Nationals. Granted it was in Seniors, and it was only 8 rounds top 32.(which is what most regionals get nowadays for Masters) However I assume Kevin just didn't know that Orion won nationals that year and got top 32 at worlds.

The second I saw FL in the title it caught my eye for the respect I have for the area.
Go back and read all the posts here. Sounds more like Cheerleaders at a catfight then a discussion about Pokemon.

This. Was DP-BW the most skill-based format? Definitely not. But it's not Justin's fault it was like that, and anybody who can win U.S. Nationals has my instant respect, regardless of format. Just because there were a lot of coin flips doesn't mean you don't have to be an amazing player to win.

Now can we just drop this argument and start talking about the marathon again? Nationals was six months ago, get over it already...

About the marathon, according to Jason's post, the format is basically as crazy as we thought it was. The only real surprise was Durant doing so well (and I guess the Typhlosion/Magnezone), but I think most players did know it was good. I think a lot of its success was probably people being unprepared for it. I know one Durant player in my area who says he gets at least half of his wins just from his opponents making stupid mistakes. Then, hard counters were added to decklists, and people tested against it. It only got one more top two after that first weekend.

I was also very glad to see I recognized 12/14 of the names he listed as the top two players. There's still some skill in the format.

Yeah I'm glad to have seen the same players doing well at every event. It appears the format is very skill based.

There was 2 bad players that I remember in Top 8 at a few of the events otherwise, the out of staters and top locals made the cuts.
