Pokémon TCG: Sword and Shield—Brilliant Stars

The PERFECT Gyarados counter for SP decks!!!

Michaels list is back again, dont try to mess with it, it will always be faster ;D

Luxray has an advantage IMO, its faster, can disrupt Gyarados and a Belted Luxray is hard for Dos to kill, if you cant kill it it will heal itelf off etc etc.

It's actually not my list, so I can't give details about it.

However, I can say that I do run a 1-1 donphan tech, which really does tip the matchup in my favor.

Look, if you're going to be a scrub and ignore the facts when I'm trying to help you, be like that. Putting damage on the bench will NOT stop any half way decent Gyarados from setting up. Being an optimist is stupid when it's a proven fact that your strategy won't work. It's like getting in a car that's almost out of gas and going on a 100 mile trip and just hoping that you'll make it on the little fuel you have.

I suggest you try to find a different strategy for beating Gyarados. I'll be willing to help you, but you need to be willing to listen first.

Perhaps you're forgetting that to have a gyarados you must first bench a magikarp. If it's dead, you can't evolve it, can you?

Then why are you playing SP?

Last time I checked, you don't run Luxray X in DialgaChomp, and it's a SP deck. Just because you run SP does NOT mean you have to run Lux. X in it to make it good.

I think the thread has been said already. It COULD work, but all they have to do is get rid of your Misasma for a BTS, and then their safe.

Skarmory will not work. A donphan tech will knock it out easily. Saybleye can overconfident it after a few crobat drops. You run plenty of BTS to get rid of mismia. The only thing that can help luxchomp beat Gyarados is expert belt even though you will pay for that if they run a donphan tech.

There is absolutely NOTHING you can do to stop me from getting a magikarp down. I have ways to bypass your silly little gimmicky strategy, and once I do, you will lose. Miasma vally? I'll just play my own stadium down. Skarmory? Not enough on it's own, I have 10 hp left. Any other card that reduces HP on basic? Sorry, they won't work in an SP deck.

Lets say that you actually did find a way to fit one of these cards into your deck. I still have combee which completely get's around this gimmick. Trust me, it's really not worth your time. Find a better way to beat gyarados.

Back to back posts merged. The following information has been added:

To add to my post, pretty much what he said. I can't actually attack with sableye in my build, but I sure as heck can get a donphan out quick if I need to. Have you ever seen what Donphan does to luxchomp? It isn't pretty...

i have found that honchkrow SV is brilliant as you put all their magikarps on their bench and they cant do any damage

if luxchomp packs 2 expert belt, 2-2 luxray gl lv X and a lucario gl, it almost autowins gyarados.

You don't one shot the luxray X with Expert belt attached, but a donphan tech can with one bat drop. Once the first belt is gone the second can be easily taken care of.

Gyarados runs an abundance of any combination of plus power/expertbelt/crobats. Getting that extra 10 for the donphan is very easy to do. Luxchomp has no real answer to Donphan in a gyarados deck. By the time they manage to kill it, it's almost always too late.

your 'PERFECT' counter doesn't have anything on Combee; they can still pull a magikarp up with 30HP remaining with a honey item combee

also, in Gdos, I favor that miserable bad Mankey over Donphan; Donphan is too much of a hassle and Mankey is just one card instead of two. He's easier to retreat also, but it should be noted I haven't even tested Donphan.

I used both Donphan and Relicanth to ensure that if nothing else, I could get one of them up and running easily. Donphan had the edge over makney IMO just because it doesn't ever get OHKO'd right back against lux, and usually takes out at least 2 pokemon before he dies.
