There are people seriously willing to believe the biblical stuff saying that humans have "dominion" over the world, and that they're free to mess it up as much as they like without repercussions, so I'd say yes, there are people who are really that stupid.

I've seen things in newspaper letter/editorial sections that are just mind-blowingly stupid, to the degree that makes you seriously wonder if the writer rides the short bus. Something like in the OP really comes as no shock to me.
