Pokémon TCG: Sword and Shield—Brilliant Stars

The Underdog going the distance - PittsB's Top4 States Report

I haven't been playing since Regional Championships last year and nobody expected me to win at all with this deck and especially since I disappeared off the face of the earth. So this is California States, since it took me nearly an hour to get there and that. I played a Magnezone/Machamp/Regirock deck, but the weirdest style. Nobody else plays Machamp is their Magnezone/Regirock deck, I only played it because it was my favorite Pokemon and people say that's the perfect Pokemon to describe me. Even if it doesn't work, I'll still have fun with it.

Sitting at the #1 table for 5 straight rounds. I completely loved it. <3

So... This was my States list...

4-3-3-1 ( Magnezone Prime/Magnezone SF - Energy Attacher)
2-1-2 Machamp SF
1 Uxie LA
1 Giratina PL
2 Regirock LA
1-1 Blissey PL
2 Spiritomb AR
1 Unown Q
------------- 25 Pokemon

8 Fighting Energy
6 Lightning Energy
2 Warp Energy
------------- 16 Energy

4 Pokemon Collector
3 Broken Time Space
2 Rare Candy
3 Bebe's Search
2 Judge
1 Luxury Ball
1 Warp Point
2 Expert Belt
1 Seeker
-------------- 19 Trainer/Supporter/Stadium

So I sign up, see some people, and getting ready for my tournament. 60(?) Seniors and a Top 8 cut. 328 people total in all divisions, I'm surprised there wasn't that much people though.

Round 1: PittsB v/s Worlds Contender kid - 1/0

He gets 3 Gengar SF and a Vileplume by T2. Just because I did not start with a Spiritomb. I nearly thought I was going to lose until I actually top decked a collector when I started with Magnemite, free retreat with another Magnemite and brought up Spiritomb. Setting up and he still did not take any prizes because T3, I got 2 Magnezone Prime with 2 Regirock and a Blissey PL. Knocked out all of his Gengars with only 1 heads to kill my Magnezone Prime. He couldn't do anything after that. Finished the game with 250 damage. Good Game.

-----
Round 2: PittsB v/s Kid with Tangrowth/Scizor - 2/0

He gets a T2 Tangrowth and knocks out my Spiritomb while I set up. I get a T2 Magnezone Prime with Uxie/Magnezone SF/2 Regirock/1 Blissey PL and knock out his Tangrowth by 270 damage with Expert Belt. Good Game.
------
Round 3: PittsB v/s Elijiah with LuxChomp with Machamp - 3/0

We both had bad starts, he started setting up a little faster than me. I had nothing until I drew into a Giratina PL and ruined his hand and I drew everything I needed with 4 cards. Machoke/BTS/Collector/Machamp with that, I got a Machamp out and set everything else with the Spiritomb from Collector. By then, I took 3 Prize Cards until he Zen Bladed me from Uxie, but I drew 2 more from Magnezone. He used his Machamp with DCE and knocked out the Magnezone. He drew 2 more prizes with Machamp until I came back with my Uxie and won the game.
-----
Round 4: PittsB v/s James L with DialgaChomp - 4/0

Horrible start, started with Giratina. He T1 Deafens, but I use Pokemon Collector and use Warp Energy to get out of there for a Spiritomb to set up my Machop and Magnemite. Once I got out Machamp by T2, he looked fairly angry how I always pull off something like this every game. Take out, knock out. He gets Uxie X and Zen Blades me. Next turn, Machop, Rare Candy, Machamp. Take out. As soon as I got that second Machamp out right away, he didn't even bother going the distance with my Magnezone deck. Good Game.
------

Round 5: PittsB v/s Jason M. (2nd at Worlds 2009???) VileGar - 5/0

T2 Gengar and Vileplume, wow, I should have expected that with all that set up with the spiritomb and that uxie. I set up 2 Magnezone Prime, 1 Magnezone Super Connectivity, Blissey PL, Regirock LA, and a Machamp with using Seeker on my Uxie. We were trading prize cards, until time came. The +3 really ruined him, he could not knock out anything, I was ahead by a prize card with Machamp active. He couldn't do anything. Machamp saves Magnezone again. Good Game.

------

Round 6: PittsB v/s Bradley P. - Chenlock - 5/1

Starting hand, Chansey, Unown Q, and 5 Energy. He won by T2 with Sableye donk and Garchomp Dragon Rush. Good Game?

So... I came up in 2nd seed out of the 8. Now I have to face Jason M. again, the guy who knocked me out of Top 4 barely at Regionals last year because of time.

Top 8. v/s Jason M.

Game 1: 0-1
I didn't have a good start, he had a better start. He took 3 prizes, I knew I wasn't going to win this one so why bother waste my valuable time?

Game 2: 1-1
I got a T1 Machamp, knock out. He looked at me like, how? When he had a Spiritomb start also. Oh well, he had another Spiritomb. I kept on taking prizes but the entire game I only had 1 Magnezone Prime and 1 Machamp SF due to the lack of draw. I was ahead by 2 prize cards. The game ended when I attacked with Regirock and finished off his Haunter.

Game 3: 2-1
He had everything set up by T3 with my trashy hand. Chansey, Unown Q, and 5 energy again? Wow... I top deck a collector and get everything set up the exact same time he does. Time was almost out, I kept on taking prize cards like it was no tomorrow. I was ahead by 3 prize cards, time was called, and there. I got revenge from last year, he took his cards and said, "It's best two out of three, we'll see at Regionals. lol." Yeah... It was pretty fun. Good Game.

-------

Top 4: Jason C. w/ LuxChomp

Game 1: 0-1
T2 Luxray and Garchomp? Against my 2 Regirocks, Giratina, and 4 energy cards. Sprayed my Giratina. You know how that ended up. Good Game.

Game 2: 0-2
His T3 Luxray and Garchomp, against my Regirock with 6 energy. Couldn't top deck anything. Wow... Good game?

I wish I could have gotten my Machamp out but oh well, Top 4 is nice and I want that medal! <3

kamz - You definitely made it because you're... Idk. x]

chrataxe - This was before early in the first States so nobody knew what this deck was until it was in the top table. Though now, everyone definitely knows what this deck is.

Oh, ok. So I guess Morten X-0'ing swiss at the European cup that took place BEFORE states doesn't count.

People were playing with Magnezone/Machamp/Regirock even during cities and it was pretty popular in Europe....Not to mention people played it at Week 1 States

Oh, I see now. I don't know, everyone at that tournament said they've never heard of that kind of Magnezone before and I was like... Okay. lol

Thanks Porii!
